My Knives & Other Weapons

Being sick has given me time to work on my knife making skills. My knapping is improving since I bought a jig and some Ishi sticks.

Here's an obsidian blade mounted in caribou

Next I have 3 knives mounted in coyote bone (I like working with the jaws). The bottom knife is dalcite mounted in mule deer with a stain

Finally, I have knives mounted in elk. Can you see the Damascus blade?

Yes. What's the story with the damascus blade?

They all look nice, although that one jaw doesn't look comfortable to hold.

Wow, those are remarkable! Works of art.
JBKlyde • Mar 11, 2013 12:42 pm
do you sell those or do you just make them to collect them...

Beautiful, sarge. If I had anything like spare time I'd love to learn knapping.

Very nice, Sarge, well done.

I signed up for a knapping course.
The good news is I passed with flying colors.
The bad news is I misspelled knapping.

You know how to knap, don't you, Wolf? You just put your eyelids together and...

I glanced at this thread title and actually thought it read:

My Knives and Other Womens

I did. My brain is tired and sad and hallucinating. But at least it's hallucinating funny stuff.

Yo! Where all the sharp women at?

Those are all pretty cool, Sarge.

Good job!
Big Sarge • Mar 11, 2013 6:27 pm
Thanks. I mainly trade them for guns or other knives. Making them is a form of therapy with my tremors. The Damascus blade I traded for and made a patch knife. Coyote jaws are actually very comfortable

Very cool Sarge!
classicman • Mar 11, 2013 8:30 pm
Those are beautiful Sarge.

Very well done. Talent? you got it!
glatt • Mar 11, 2013 9:19 pm
Yeah, I'm impressed. I also like the lashing connections at the handles.
footfootfoot • Mar 11, 2013 10:38 pm
I know, Sarge is being all humble about his mad primitive skilz. I've got to get busy with my deer bones to maintain primitive weapon parity with Sarge.

OMG there'll be a weapons gap!

Seriuosly, these are cool.

Umm, they'd pass right through a metal detector, wouldn't they? No particular reason, just wondering...

It probably depends on what kind of metal the detector was made from, but yeah, with a perfectly straight thrust it should go right through without breaking..

3F - we could start our own paleo arms race!! LOL. I've been looking at trying to make a bearded axe after watching the Vikings. Something worthy of Ragnar. I'm trying to trade a couple of knives for an accurate axe head
