How many two letter words (acceptable in Scrabble) can you create by placing a word above or below and parallel to the word SERENDIPITOUS so that all the resulting two letter combinations are acceptable words in Scrabble?

Or for those wanting more of a challenge, what is the highest scoring word you can find? (using Scrabble letter values and assuming no special multipliers)

Maximum word length 7 letters, you may extend off either edge.

example: for any word ending with ization, I could place awash below it, startting below the z and make za, aw, ta, is and oh

C U S T O M I Z A T I O N
A W A S H

This is not a word freak thread. This is a scrabble thread.
