Justify Your Cellar Friendships Here

footfootfoot • Dec 10, 2012 12:15 pm
In order to keep other threads uncluttered here is the thread for justifying why you are friends with a particular dwellar. Keep it to 100 words or less please.

This is NOT, however, the place to explain why a dwellar sucks and is not your friend. That is a different thread.

e.g. I am friends with Squirell Nutkin because he does not go around the tree.

footfootfoot is my friend because I appreciate qualities like intelligence, humor, compassion, helpfulness, creativity and artistic talent. footfootfoot helped me when I was in need, and I will never forget that. He has been kind and friendly and generous to me.

footfootfoot is my friend because I feel sorry for him because hardly anyone likes him. He's not all that bad, once you get past the steely exterior. ;)
BigV • Dec 10, 2012 12:34 pm
classicman is my friend because he broke trail for me when all I saw was the crack of doom. We have both had monumental life shaping experiences that had many important aspects that were similar or even identical. His experience happened a little bit earlier than mine did and by virtue of that experience, he was able to lead me through mine. His help to me was life saving. I do not regard that as a bit of hyperbole. Y'know the joke about the difference between a friend and a real friend, well, classicman is a real friend. I know it, he knows it, and now you know it.

xoxoxoBruce is my friend because of who he is. Glib sounding, sure. But I doubt that my justification is substantially different than numerous other dwellars' justifications. He is generous, reliable, and honest. His contribution to the group effort to hold my life together in one place, if not one piece, was invaluable. He knows what he's talking about and it makes me look smart and become smart when I pay attention to what he says.

I really don't often feel like I need to justify my friendships.

But I will take the opportunity to say something nice about a dwellar of whom I have always been fond, and who is getting a bit of stick at the moment (from myself as well I admit:P)

Ibby. We are such a bunch of oldies you know. But if I really, really try, I remember that kind of passion and absolute immersion in something I believed in. In a cause that was immediately felt and urgent. I find Ibby frustrating in discussions at times, but I rather suspect my younger self would prove just as frustrating. And who I am now would probably baffle or dismay my younger self.
The world needs Ibbies (:p). Whilst they’re learning how the world works, and learning how to move people, their learning curve is the energy behind a lot of change.

lookout123 is my friend because he took an interest in my life and shared his personal support as well as giving me important technical advice. Both gifts were sorely needed and greatly appreciated. He stood by me, answered my calls for help when I was in need. He set me straight when I was wrong, and I am indebted to him for that.

I justify my cellar friendships here.

they are now justified.

it's because I think about them as actual people....not just in the context of the cellar.

If you keep yourself anon, and protect your privacy to the extent that I can't imagine you as a real person, then we cannot be friends.
BigV • Dec 10, 2012 1:23 pm
Elspode is my friend because he's soaked up so much of my tears and confusion and worry, wrung them through the twin silver platens of his logic and intuition, producing a gentle rain of soothing, comforting, encouraging words which were a balm for my spirit. To me, he is that proverbial "friend indeed".

as I think more about this thread, the more impossible it feels to satisfy both the premise of the opening post and my own desire for completeness. I will not be able to list, comprehensively, my friends in the cellar and do them justice. Inevitably, I'll overlook someone, as a result of my own scattered mind, and the prospect of snapping to attention that I'd failed to acknowledge dwellar-X gives me pause.

So I would like to say *now*, there are many people (people, mind you, not just some string of posts associated with a given handle) here that I consider friends. My list, at this point, is incomplete. It will remain incomplete, though I will continue to regard them as my friends and as I continue to name names. Because I cannot do it perfectly should not be reason for me to fail to attempt to do it well. I will strive to do it well.

Friends? FRIENDS! Bwahahahaha. All you [strike]Cavendish[/strike] Cellar gang are my prisoners and that's the way, uh huh uh huh, I like it, uh huh uh huh. That's the way. Hi-Yo Silver! AWAAAAAY!
Aliantha • Dec 10, 2012 6:24 pm
Foot...you are such a shit stirer. Thats why we could never be friends. I just couldn't be friends with someone who does that!
footfootfoot • Dec 10, 2012 7:44 pm
I thought you loved me. You understand me at least, and that's a start.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 10, 2012 8:01 pm
Not to sleight anyone, but this could take all night, so let me just say UT because he gave me the Cellar and I suck up to rock-stars. ;)
Aliantha • Dec 10, 2012 8:53 pm
Maybe I could come to love you over time if I could just get past some of your faults. ;)

My bestest Cellar friend to be
Is maybe someone just like me
Or maybe different, in some way
That might not make much sense today
They might be flamer, full of scorn
Or someone sharing thoughts on porn
But even those I count as foe
I am still glad I got to know

Hi. I'm not friend with anyone here. To shy about my english writing. I don't post much but I like to read the posts. Many of you seems like good friends and that makes this cellar, a nice place to be.
glatt • Dec 14, 2012 9:43 pm
I enjoyed that post, Buffalo Bill. Thanks for posting it. I hope you post more often, but if you aren't comfortable, then I understand.
Griff • Dec 15, 2012 9:20 am
That was nice BB, I like the perspective of a lower intensity dwellar even if I'd prefer you interact more often.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 15, 2012 1:53 pm
Yeah BB, I didn't have any trouble with your English, which is more than I can say for some of the regular posters. :haha:
Sundae • Dec 15, 2012 2:38 pm
What you say?
footfootfoot • Dec 15, 2012 4:51 pm
BB you could also post in your native language. It might be a wake-p call to us lazy Americans who think everyone should speak English
sexobon • Dec 15, 2012 4:58 pm
Unfortunately, that would be an open invitation to spammers unless we had moderators proficient in those languages. Nice sentiment though.

Buffalo Bill • Dec 15, 2012 9:50 pm
I don't think it would help to post in my native language. Want some examples?

Sei'ko: means Hi, hello, bonjour

Skanakowa: mean how are you? comment allez vous?

o'nah: means Bye, au revoir.

I'm a french wohawk :) a rare breed.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 15, 2012 10:42 pm
I guess that makes you an endangered species, BB, we'll have to find you a mate to continue the line. :lol2:

I avoided this thread for some time. Mostly because you all have been a better friend to me then I to you. Classic is a friend of mine. Everyone pulled the stops and sent me a box to Iraq a few years back..the Tim Tams were memorable, I still use the flash light in my survival kit. I consider this to be the best place on the internet. I like you guys. It seems to me that we don't all agree on everything. But one thing we do agree on is that we can all come together here. I like it.
