My reaction when I saw this pic on tv was one of anger.

Here in Oregon, we often see pics like this after big storms, of
farm animals left in the pastures, that eventually flood.
It's like no one ever saw that same field flooded before... yeah sure.

Didn't the company have enough drivers to tell each to take a cab and drive it to high ground ?
Didn't the farmer/rancher care enough about the animals to move their herd to safety ?

Somehow, I get the idea that having insurance is a lose/lose situation.

Well that lot probably hasn't been flooded since at least 1938, if at all. I doubt he was expecting this.

and it would have cost a fortune in tolls/drivers to get them out of the city.

but, insurance still IS a lose-lose situation.

I doubt he was expecting this.

I thought everyone in the area was clearly told to expect exactly this with at least a couple of days warning?

Yes, but Hoboken is up the river a bit and the water was much higher than most expected. That's why I don't think is was for insurance, just a mistake.

It probably took them hours to figure out which cabs had the biggest maintenance jobs pending so they could get them all in that lot.

A comment on Jalopnik claims those are all brand new unused cabs.

Folks, there was a 32 foot surge of water that came up the Hudson River flooding more than anyone could ever imagine. I heard first hand that boats were on tops of houses as far North as the Tappan Zee bridge and that's 30 miles away. If it didn't happen I would say that it is IMPOSSIBLE. The Hudson is at its widest point just North of Tappan, over a mile wide and the surge did not disapate, it's just impossible to comprehend.

When I visited Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, I saw a lot of stuff like that. Boats on houses, firewood on tops of chimneys, waterlines on trees thirty miles inland. Let's face it, the river is at sea level. Raise "sea level" and that water's gonna move.
