spacebook

We should start some kind of "social network" thing. I'm not sure if that's a good phrase but we can work on that.

I envision a place where you have your own 'page' and you can let others on to your page to learn about your likes and dislikes, who you're dating or who you've dumped, pics of the families and friends...that sort of thing.

Maybe it's a silly idea. I don't know if it would take off or not but think about how big lycos got. That started out as a spark too.

I think a good name would be spacebook. Like "here's MY space, but it's like an online book."

What do you guys think? Is it worth pursuing? It's just an inkling of an idea...we'd need a lot of programming type people, knowledgeable in basic and fortran and stuff.

why not call it a spatial network?
classicman • May 23, 2012 5:26 pm
or a blog?

Do you think we could make it kind of interactive and easily updateable, so we could share our thoughts and feelings and how our days are going? I think I remember some Prolog

I really like this idea!

If only I had a button I could click to indicate that.

;)

I'd really like to share this idea with my friends -but only the ones in my close circle, we don't want to have to share the profits with too many

Lmao! That's the spirit!

How do we keep creepy people out of our 'network'? Could there be a system where you could yay or nay people?
classicman • May 23, 2012 10:59 pm
I dunno about this thing. What if I wanted to read the news?
ZenGum • May 24, 2012 3:53 am
I'm worried about privacy.

Also, are you planning to regularly screw with the interface to piss people off?
BigV • May 24, 2012 10:38 am
You're worrying over nothing then.

Maybe we could have a news feed attached somehow. Like the tickers at the bottom of the TV? You wnat to be news developer? Just think, if this takes off we could stand to make thousands of dollars.

As to privacy, I think we'll go the "your privacy is a big concern, though nothing is really private anyway in this information age" route. People tend to believe those sorts of arguments and eventually resign themselves to giving up some privacy to socialize.

Hey, maybe we could put some games on there. You could play with people in your network of friends. Maybe minesweeper, pac-man...multiplayer pong?

I think we should incorporate sex somehow. They say sex sells, and it's a pointless venture unless we can sell it someday to the public in an overhyped, overpriced IPO kind of thing.

so maybe we could call it facialbook?

Think of the CHILDREN! What about the CHILDREN?
jimhelm • May 24, 2012 11:39 am

omg if THAT's the direction the web is going I want NO PART of it. *shudders*
Blueflare • May 24, 2012 2:01 pm
I have no interest in being part of such a ridiculous fad.

However, I do run an advertising company and I would be glad to invest in your website if you let me sort through the information that people submit, so that I can direct advertising to them.
All their data will be anonymised (you can trust me) and they would get to see ads for things that they definitely want, but unfortunately don't know about yet. This is a public service. There are products which are guaranteed to make people happy and fill the emptiness in their souls, but at the moment, not everyone knows what these products are. I'm sure you can see what a travesty this is and how important it is that we resolve it.

So I will help your business, and in a few years we can put it on the stock market. And you know how the stock market works - right?

Blueflare, you are why I think this can work. You have shown selflessness, empathy, compassion. You want to get the word out, you want to help people, unconcerned about your own welfare.

I say let's do it. I hadn't thought of how far-reaching this thing really could be. You have opened my eyes. We have a responsibility, nay, a FSM-given duty to help people understand their options for consuming.

I don't know how the stock market works but I feel safe in my circle of co-developers that you will lead me down the right path and do what's best for us all.

Well that wasn't what I was expecting.
