Big Questions

Seriously, how many roads must a man walk down, before you call him a man?

In fact, what ever your answer (suppose, seven), there's a problem.

If you say "a man must walk down seven roads", then his acts of walking down roads need to be done as a man, and so his pre-man road walking doesn't count. We're stuck.

I have a big question...I just lost my baby sister (34 years old) in a car accident 2 months ago. I don't walk around crying like I think I should be, I feel more like I've had a lobotomy...question, what the hell is wrong with me!? I feel like a heartless freak!

Grief hits you however it hits you. For some it's weeping, for others it's a hollow nothingness, for some its a combination of the two and so on. There's no right or wrong way to cope with loss.

And how it hits you doesn't reflect how much you loved them. That's just how your mind copes with something which defies emotional understanding.

Sorry for your loss, tracey.

No, not at all. A man may walk down seven roads without being called a man. That doesn't negate his being a man, even if he were born with ovaries.

The question remains for the TGLGB community however, how many roads must a person walk down before they are recognized by their preferred gender identity.

Still, further perplexing is the apparent riddle, "How many seas must a white dove sail before she can sleep in the sand?" Considering that a dove, white or otherwise is a near passerine in the Columbidae family, i.e., a land bird, this question might be more appropriate alongside "How many ships sail in the forest?" in the folk song "The False Bride," yet, even there it smacks of deception and misdirection.

Good points, Footsie.

Answer to the TGLGBetc question seems to be ... keep walking, you ain't done yet.

Doves? Bah. Cannonballs do not fly. The are ballistic objects which thus describe a parabolic path deformed by deceleration due to wind resistance.

When my Mum died I was the one comforting everyone at the funeral and afterwards. I didn't cry for a long time. I had too many other things to worry about at the time, besides, I just couldn't face that she was gone. it just didn't seem real to me even though I was holding her hand when she passed.

Like BigV said, it affects us all differently. Wait till a few 'big days' like Christmas, birthdays etc come round and she's not there and reality sets in. Maybe it will hit you then. That's how it was for me.

I'm very sorry for your loss. xx

Feeling like a heartless freak means that you are not one, QED.

I, too, am the type of person who doesn't let the awful stuff sink in for at least 3-6 months. It's especially awkward if someone else is sharing the bad news with me, because I just stare blankly at them and cannot for the life of me come up with an appropriate response of any kind. You'll get around to recognizing what happened, when you're ready. No use trying to rush it.

De-Nile. It will catch up with you sooner or later. 2 months is a really short time to make assessments from Arm Chair Psychologists as to what you are or should be feeling at this point. The only advice I can give is that time makes these things easier, they don't always fix them, bit they get easier to deal with over time. Don't worry about it....

True, true. Not to mention that pesky gravity.

You have misjudged the gravity of that situation.

I'm not! I'm flattered as hell. "Why, yes, I can see how my remarks could have been mistaken for Dana's but that's the price she pays for her fame and eloquence. What? My resume? Leave your damn facts out of this!"
