The translation we were given when we studied Wilfred Owen, was: it is sweet and meet to die for the fatherland.

I rarely see that translation these days. It really stuck in my mind. Was the first time I'd ever come across that use of the word meet.

His poem Dulce et Decorum Est was probably the first poem to really grab me by the throat.
