Auto-start music on a web site

I couldn't convince him not to:

That's unfortunate. I don't care for auto-start music, thank you very much.

On a different note, you misspelled Shiitake on the menu page. You left out one "i", shitake. It kind of looks like "shit". No offense.

Thank you sir
DanaC • Apr 4, 2012 5:52 pm
Yeah, that's annoying. I tend to click sites off straight away if they play music on opening.
Aliantha • Apr 4, 2012 5:58 pm
I can't believe they don't have a single Australian wine on the menu! Tell him that's pretty terrible.
Undertoad • Apr 4, 2012 6:55 pm
The Jacobs Creek Shiraz is Aussie.
Aliantha • Apr 4, 2012 6:56 pm
It is. Did I miss it? lol

That'd be right!

You're welcome! :)

It looks good, nice job.

Tell him that if I ever travel to Bonito Springs, I will not eat at his restaurant because he had music on his website. Well, that and the plastic cow stuck into the meat making it lose juices on the way to the table. Plastic cow. What the heck does he think he is? Longhorn Steakhouse?

I don't suppose he would let you make how to turn the music off more obvious?

Lovely otherwise.

Please forgive my neurotic copyediting on the menu page:

--There's an extraneous space between the parentheses and "With bleu cheese.."
--In PORTERHOUSE FOR FOUR, the OZ is capitalized, mismatched from the others
--An extra parentheses at the end of Dover Sole
--Apple Strudel gets ice creme instead of ice cream
--Meanwhile, Tartuffo gets Ice-cream
--There's a space missing after the comma in "Bertani Villa Atvedi,Amarone"

Looks really nice!

Thank you ma'am, and all.

I agree with Dana.

As an edit suggestion - I believe the term "DRY AGED" should be "Dry-Aged"
as the two go together. Also, on the main page first line the word "Prime should be moved to the second line with the word aged. Leaving the "DRY" hanging at the end doesn't make the steak sound as appetizing.

I'm probably being picky here, but in the second paragraph it says "finest cuts of meat"
which is fine if they are only referring to beef, but should be meat(s) if they are not.

I like the overall look and after viewing the site for a bit, the music was tolerable.

Well it is Bill Evans. I only steal from the very best dead addicts.

But now, to not have sound via a link:

http://manhattan1steakhouse.com/?sound=off

Ah, there's always a simple way. And now i can use this one in the portfolio.
DanaC • Apr 5, 2012 4:41 am
Yeah...in its defence it wasn't a bad piece of music.

Heh, clever workaround. Better than an asterisk in the portfolio that says, "I swear to God, I tried to talk this client out of his music."

@UT (or anyone else that might know)...

Is there a way to turn OFF the auto-start as a "permanent" setting ?

It seems that auto-start advertising is taking over every website,
and it is truly annoying, especially on long news (text) articles
where the offending ad is located down-screen somewhere among 17 ads.

Here's a page that explains the process for each browser.

But it's not fool-proof, you have to block all of a certain kind of content, etc. etc.

For me, the answer was to assign a button on my mouse to be the Mute button. Many keyboards and mice have extra buttons that you can program to do things. Having a quick Mute button is really nice.

If you have a Logitech mouse, their mouse software makes it easy; you just pick which button you want to assign or re-assign, and you get a ton of different choices for what a mouse button can do.

(And I have the Performance MX which means I have like 10 different mouse buttons...)

(For those with a Logitech mouse, run the Mouse settings, select "Other" as a button task and you get 40 different choices, including copy/paste, undo/redo, play/pause, etc and one of the choices is MUTE. For those without a Logitech mouse, ask your local computer person for assistance in buying a new Logitech mouse on Amazon and installing it, along with their Setpoint mouse software. It's worth it)

Oh yes and that steakhouse restaurant owner was a major asshole so I didn't mourn it when he asked to move the domain. Looks like the redirect died oh well

I've become very annoyed by the videos that autoplay in my list of Yahoo news headlines. They're not ads, they're 'news' videos. Oh, sure you can hit pause in the tiny little video window, but, that's just more annoyance.

And it slows down my 'puter.

They are forgetting the very simple lessons learned during the infancy of the web, which is that you don't want pages to load slowly.

Thanks UT... I'm on Mac desktop 95% of the time.
Your comment made me realize the F-10 key toggles "mute".
This is enough until I find a way to actually kill "auto-start".
