Ridiculous all round, but my goodness they were naive.
You don't joke about bombs at the airport and (as it turns out) you don't make jokes on Twitter either.

Hang on.
They joked on Twitter and were picked up at the airport?
That shit is scary.

Thank goodness I don't use Twitter. So when the Cellar buys me a $3200 round trip ticket for winning the Superbowl bet I won't be held at the airport and put back on the next flight!

My ex once tried to take circular saw blades in his carry on luggage on an international flight.

He called me to come pick the blades up from the airport so he could catch his plane.

When I got there, the security guards with him just rolled their eyes, to which I responded, "there's a reason he's my ex husband".

We laughed.

That doesn't have much to do with this thread except for people being dickheads in relation to airports. :)

The Christian right. Definitely a reason to stay very far away.
wolf • Feb 16, 2012 6:50 pm
I might as well say Progressives, or the Extreme left, or tree hugging commie pinko bastards ...

Give real and important reasons to stay away, like ... American Idol or the Dallas Cowboys or Martha Stewart Living Magazine.
infinite monkey • Feb 16, 2012 6:58 pm
Point taken, wolf. :)

Stay away because of strip malls, and traffic, and general bedlam.

But stay for some pie. We have good pie.

which thread are you cloning, though? [edit, I found it now, sry.... but a link is helpful for us eejits....]

I don't think anyone should stay away from Ameica, but FFS be aware that it ain't no Europe......
ZenGum • Feb 16, 2012 10:58 pm
Deep fried butter.

Monkey is right we do have some damn good pie, and just about anything amateur or minor legue. Baseball, softball, soccer, hockey, rec legue stuff, heck there is an over 30 hardball baseball legue in California. I'd rather see a minor legue game in the summer then a major legue game any day of the week. And we don't murder the ref if he makes a bad call, we just hekel them from the stands. They can hear you so much better at a small field. (umm, i'm supposed to be telling why NOT to come to the states, huh? oh well. ran out of reasons.)

Our beer is only 6% and served cold... our bars are dark

We drive on the right side of the road.
... Look left before stepping off the curb

Anywhere is a day's drive, or more, away

Cold weather comes from the north, hot from the south
Easterners believe that once you've seen a corn field, you've seen the West

Streets in Boston have name-signs only at the beginnings and ends.
... you are expected to know the name of any street you are drive on.

In Seattle and San Francisco, you often can't get there from here.

I don't need to come to the States for that, it's all over here.
And streets very often change their names at intersections - just when you are busy negotiating traffic.

"I'm on Shooters Hill Road, just going past the hospital."
"What? If you're going past the hospital you're on Old Kent Road! Turn around, you've gone way too far!"
alinasmithctq • Mar 6, 2012 6:16 am
if u cant compete than stay away from america
Gravdigr • Mar 7, 2012 4:33 pm
Also, if you can't use punctuation, proper terminology, or spell, ya might want to reconsider.

The street that my residential street empties onto changes names arbitrarily three different times. None of those name changes are at an intersection.

The American government has my fingerprints. My own government (UK) doesn't have my fingerprints, but the American government does. Just because I wanted to visit and spend some money in their country. Jeez, sorry.
Also, the right wing Christian evangelical types scare and upset me.

Pat Robertson says legalize it! Surely the republicans will listen to him.
