Attention all NJ Cellarites!

Sheldonrs • Feb 7, 2012 12:31 pm
I'll be in NJ (Clifton) for vacation, visiting family for 2 weeks, from May 19 - June 1. Anyone want to get together sometime then?
So far, my only plans are on the 20th.

But be warned! I am EXACTLY the same in person as I am on line! lol!

Ha! Me too, but that seems more off-putting coming from me. ;)

New Jersey? Fortification?
Sheldonrs • Feb 7, 2012 1:26 pm
Family. The OTHER "F" word Foot. lol

Hmmm, looks like Clifton is in North Jersey, up NYC way...

If you're able to drive a couple of hours south to Philly, I bet a few of us would love to meet up with you!

I wish I could but I don't drive. Scares the crap out of me.

NJtransit comes in to 30th Street Station ...

I'd love to meet you, but not enough to go near Passaic. If you take the train into Phila, we could have another Chinatown GTG.
HungLikeJesus • Feb 7, 2012 9:33 pm
Are you planning to go to White Castle?

Wolf - I'll check that out.

Hung - You better believe it! Also a lot of the old time diners. :-)

Rich - But Passaic is the garden spot of the garden state! lol

Rubbing 2 "stcks" together can start a fire.

How dare you try to define Ibs?

:lol2:

Serious post is teh serious:

I wish Shel really could meet Ibs (as opposed to meat Ibs).
I think they could have a converstaion that might help Erica on her journey. Shel has the (life) experience that we can't provide - that of growing up with a different orientation. And having problems with role models given that homosexual meant something very different to society when Shel was a teen. And he won through to be a fully rounded man, with friends and lovers and family ties.

Ibs is still in the infancy of his open sexual behaviour.
Many of us were at his age. I was.
BrianR • Feb 12, 2012 11:55 am
Ibs is welcome to talk to me about this as well.

Pam
Sheldonrs • Feb 12, 2012 2:26 pm
Everybody has their own life path and nobody can walk it the same way, even in their shoes. Even if Ibs wrote a 1000 page treatise on his life, nobody would understand 1/10 of it completely. It's the same for everyone else. That's why you either have to learn to accept the differences and the facts not known about someone if you are to call them "Friend" or accept the fact that you aren't friends.
zippyt • Feb 12, 2012 3:10 pm
Well said Sheldon !
Sundae • Feb 12, 2012 3:49 pm
I do know what you mean, Shel. And I would never suggest that all gay men or all trans* people are the same, because I damn well know that not all straight women are the same.

I just think he might benefit from talking to someone older, and to whom he could not simply throw up his arms and say "But you don't understand!"

Didn't mean to leave you out, Pam.
I just see more of Sheldon around here than I do you.

Part of the issue, I think, is that Ibs tends to protest in the high traffic threads, like Dwellar NSFW. Where it's not appropriate. So she gets the cold shoulder and doesn't get why.
Aliantha • Feb 12, 2012 6:33 pm
I don't think Ib has really had anyone give him the cold shoulder. Even me, and I was the one that started the last issue I think.

From my own perspective I just wanted to tell ib to try and have a bit of a sense of humour about things, cause life will be pretty tough without it, especially on the path he's chosen for himself (yes I realise that maybe he feels it's just a natural path, but if you have an understanding of Buddhist doctrine, you'd know that they would say Ib chose his path before he was even born in some other plane of existence) I digress.

Anyway, I still stand by what I said in that other thread, and believe me, I hold no ill will towards Ib even if he does consider me to be some kind of Neanderthal when it comes to his issues. Maybe I am, but I think it comes down to perspective. Maybe if I knew him IRL I would handle things differently, although I doubt it. I'd still just try and be myself and treat him the same way I treat anyone else, and that's with mutual levels of respect and tolerance, understanding and compassion.

Let's flip the coin for a second. I suspect Ibram would have an incredibly difficult time understanding how I feel about my life and the challenges I face (especially at the moment), but I don't blame him for that, and I don't expect him to understand completely, but I do expect him to try, and even if he can't get his head around it, then to just be supportive and compassionate if it seemed like that might help in any way, but I definitely wouldn't see any point in preaching to him and trying to force him to see my life from my perspective, because I don't think there's any way on this earth that he ever could because he's not me.

I hope that makes sense.
