Mobile app Tapatalk works here

Undertoad • Jan 17, 2012 1:50 am
If you care to browse the Cellar on your phone -- iPhone, Android, Blackberry -- I've enabled the app Tapatalk to work here.

And we are in their categories under "Miscellaneous - Others".

Every forum is about something, we're about nothing.

Thank you! I'll give it a go!

UT, when I first used my phone earlier a message came up (when I came to the cellar) saying this website uses tapatalk.... I canceled, not knowing what it was.

So what does it do? I probably sound really dumb but I did read a bit of the FAQs and I'm just not sure how it works, or even what it does.

The app costs $2.99 on android. My phone has the voice to text functionality built in. How is talkatap different/better?
Undertoad • Jan 17, 2012 9:30 pm
It's just a much nicer interface for browsing forums via phones.

So, you just spoke into a little box you carry in your pocket, the machine wrote down what you said and put it on a kind of message board so that some random guy on the other side of the planet can see it within a few seconds, and reply on a machine that corrects his spelling as he types.

Just for the sake of our mild amusement.

Seriously, wow.

Now you can make a fool of yourself instantly, from anywhere.

Tequila has made that possible for quite some time.

Anyone used tapatalk on an iPhone? How is it?

It can load the forum just like I already can on my native browser, only with less functionality, and I still have to type out posts, there is nothing indicating that speech recognition is part of the app...?
Chocolatl • Nov 17, 2012 4:36 pm
I've been using Tapatalk on my iPhone and like it so far. My only complaint is that I can't highlight white text so I feel like I'm missing out on lots of spoilers/punch lines.
Lola Bunny • Nov 17, 2012 7:37 pm
I like it. I've been able to read more ever since I got it. I've been posting more too because I don't have to be at my computer to do so.
Pete Zicato • Dec 22, 2012 7:21 pm
Finally made the splurge so I can check in from the phone.

Pete! Good to see you. The holidays bring everyone back around, it seems.

Thanks. I've a bit of vacation time. I don't know if that will mean free time. ;)

In a browser you can request to see older threads. Anyone figured a way to do this in tapatalk?
Lola Bunny • Dec 30, 2012 11:16 pm
I've never tried it. Let me attempt tomorrow.

At the bottom of the screen showing "unread" threads there are some other options like sow forums... Or something like that.

As for my phone, the tabs are on the top. You can choose "Unread" and apparently it's everything you have not read. On the bottom, I have "Latest," "Forum," Search," Messages," and "More." If you go to "Forum," it lists out all the forums. I clicked on Home Base and it says Topics (20 of 4,353). I think that should cover old threads. :D If you have not noticed, you scroll all up, then there's this "Pull up to load more." It'll load more until I'm guessing you've reach, in my case for the Home Base forum, 4353 threads are displayed.

Is Tappa talk really that good? I'm reading reviews that it's not so good. that there are lots of advertisements. I just got an iPhone and I'm thinking about getting it.
Clodfobble • Feb 13, 2013 7:19 pm
I was about to say mine has no ads, but then I remembered I paid $1.99 for it.
Pete Zicato • Feb 13, 2013 7:47 pm
I paid for it too. It's great for Cellaring on the train.

What I actually said was:
O M G Now I have Tapatalk the talk option

Dictated into my new (well, reconditioned, but new to me because I dropped the old one on the kitchen floor and broke it) Samsung Galaxy SIII.
glatt • Feb 14, 2013 12:15 pm
When I go to the App Store for this iPhone 4S, they offer "Tapatalk Forum App" for $2.99 and some of the reviews are very critical of it because the people claim Tapatalk is serving up ads. "Why am I seeing ads in a paid app? Not just nagware for Tapatalk (which is still shady) but now I'm seeing paid sponsor ads from companies between posts inside Tapatalk. If you want ad revenue, make it free. You can't have it both ways."

They also offer "Tapatalk 2 for iPhone" for $3.99 and the reviews for that are worse. It's new this month and is apparently buggy.

Do any of you see ads when you're in Tapatalk?

I hear you all raving about Tapatalk, but I wonder if you have a different version?
Pete Zicato • Feb 14, 2013 12:49 pm
I have Tapatalk 1.16. I don't remember what I paid for it. I do not see any ads.
Pete Zicato • Feb 14, 2013 12:58 pm
Here's my best guess. I've never seen an ad in tapatalk. But I did go look at the reviews just now and there's one like you described. I think that is a non-techie user going to a vBulletin forum that has ads. Some do, especially if you don't sign up.

So I think the ads are in the forum not in tapatalk.
jimhelm • Feb 14, 2013 1:04 pm
I've never seen an ad in tapatalk. I bet Pete is right on. I think I got it for free on my android, too. I very rarely pay for an app.
Lola Bunny • Feb 17, 2013 12:57 am
I have the v.1.16 version of tapatalk too. I don't get ads and I did pay for mine. I didn't pay 3.99 though.
Chocolatl • Feb 17, 2013 3:58 am
I have the "Tapatalk Forum App" for the iPhone, too, and have never seen an ad. Probably user error, as Pete suggested.
glatt • Feb 17, 2013 9:41 am
I just downloaded it will see how this works out I'm posting from my phone right now this is dictation
