Cat tries to wake up dead friend

Circling Faceb00k ... Saddest video ever :'(

video

Jebus Cripes. I can't watch that video. The picture it shows makes me want to throw up.

Sorry, that's just too much for me.
DanaC • Jan 5, 2012 8:10 am
Me too. I wanted to cry just looking at the poor little thing on the still shot.
Sundae • Jan 5, 2012 11:01 am
Nope.
Shouldn't have opened thread, but had to in case it was a joke.
Can't watch now I've seen the still.
dmg1969 • Jan 5, 2012 12:54 pm
Ditto here. Too much the animal lover to watch something that sad.
classicman • Jan 5, 2012 1:30 pm
sorry. Mod can delete.

I didn't post it to bum everyone out. The amount of love that one cat showed for his friend was heartwarming and heart wrenching at the same time. His seeming understanding ... never mind.
DanaC • Jan 5, 2012 1:38 pm
Just one of those accidental bad timing things Classic, don't worry too much about it.
Big Sarge • Jan 5, 2012 1:44 pm
Damn! If you don't shed a few tears over this then you don't have any emotions

I hid it behind a link.

excellent. That's much better than deletion.

No criticism to you, Classic.
I just happened to have the same feeling as three other posters at the same time.

I've reacted emotionally to other posts at different times and said so, but as I've been the only one at the time it hasn't seemed like a deluge.

I'm detoxing AND hyper-sensitive about cats.
infinite monkey • Jan 5, 2012 1:52 pm
Thanks glatt.

As I said in the upsetting thread, classic, I'm sorry. I had to say what I felt about it, but I shouldn't make you feel badly about posting it.

I actually have a few things on my plate right now, too, and it just hit me wrong.

:(
classicman • Jan 5, 2012 1:56 pm
Thanks glatt.

It just reenforces my decision to never EVER let Turbo outside.

You know, there are a lot of people out there who just don't realize the comfort a cat can bring. They do reciprocate caring.
kerosene • Jan 5, 2012 2:43 pm
It made me tear up, too.
BigV • Jan 5, 2012 3:11 pm
thanks glatt.

I didn't care for the screengrab for the title screen of the video. I didn't watch it either. looks very sad. I got plenty already, thanks.
wolf • Jan 5, 2012 4:39 pm
Sad, but I feel about this the same way I feel about a lot of stuff on America's Funniest Home Videos ... put down the damn camera and attend to the situation. Cuddle the living one and bury the dead one, for goodness' sake. Not everything belongs on youtube.

Yes! This. Unless you're a reporter in a disaster zone, or you're shooting a nature video, surely stepping in to help is the more natural response.

So true. Bosco looked after me so well while I was laid up with a bad cold last week. Lots of snuggles, peering at me all worried-like and occasionally poking me with his paw...somebody cared! :)

(I didn't watch the video, so if these are things the cat did on there, sorry all.)
Spexxvet • Jan 6, 2012 10:40 am
I watched about 40 seconds and couldn't take any more. Yes, I anthropomorphised.
Gravdigr • Jan 6, 2012 5:20 pm
No way I'm watching it now...Like V said, I got enough feel bad in my life, I don't need to go looking for more.
Elspode • Jan 13, 2012 2:06 am
Late to the show, as always. That was about the saddest fucking thing I've ever seen...that didn't involve me at the bedside of a dying friend, relative, or loved one.

Fuck. Just...fuck.
anonymous • Jan 13, 2012 8:39 am
I guess there is something fundamentally different about me. The video didn't bother me a bit. It's not like I work with dead cats all day and I'm desensitized to it. If they were my cats, it would probably be different. But not by a whole lot. Animals die. It happens. I hope this doesn't mean I'm a sociopath.
DanaC • Jan 13, 2012 8:57 am
It's not the death of the animal that's upsetting. It's the distress of the other cat.

Nah. You're good. People have different reactions to stuff.

True dat.

And at different times. At another point in time I might have been able to watch that. It'd be sad to see, but it wouldn't necessarily floor me. Right now though I can't even look at the picture.
footfootfoot • Jan 13, 2012 2:53 pm
I'm with anonymous on this one. First of all I don't buy the projection of human attributes to this cat. Who knows what the other cat was thinking (If cats can think) or doing?

Maybe the cat was checking to see if the other cat had a wallet on him and was going to take the cash and buy some Mad Dog 20/20. Maybe he was just getting a little workout kneading the other cat's squishy body. Maybe it's a cat masseur giving the other cat one of the most intense massages of it's life. They're cats. They aren't human. They would quickly eat their devoted masters if they had half a need to.

It's all good that it makes you sad and all but it's the story you are telling yourself with your mind, not what the caption of the video says.

Not the mention the schmaltzy music!
infinite monkey • Jan 13, 2012 2:57 pm
"I wish I could turn and live with the animals, they are so placid and self-contain'd."

Walt Whitman

And you don't know what the cat may or may not be feeling. Human attibutes, he haz none? Lucky cat! And we would eat our cats or fellow man if we had half a need to, too.

So I'll continue to believe that animals feel things. Look to the elephants if you are not sure. Maybe this makes me sentimental idiotic fool, but I'm at least erring in the less harmful direction.

Be nicer to yourself and stop calling yourself such unkind names.

And sit up straight. And stop tracking mud across my nice clean floors.
