janis joplin

bibi netanyaho
tzipi livni
breatney spears
golda mehir
clinton
ron paul
step-son
x-wife
john criton form farscape

it couldnt figure out:
my father
nessus (a pierson's puppeteers from larry niven's books)
glatt • Jan 3, 2012 8:09 pm
that's fun
infinite monkey • Jan 3, 2012 8:30 pm
That's really fun.

He guessed mine, and I thought it was hard!
monster • Jan 4, 2012 12:06 am
That's really bad/out-of-date. I did UT, there just aren't catgories for people you know online. The third guess was my ex-boss. (1 = father's friend 2 = doorman!) Maybe I'm too critical -AI programming was my main project for my bachelors...

...but for a program run online, you'd think there'd be allowance for online "relationships"?

if you defeat it, it will ask you to pick the answer from a list or add an entry to its database. you can add an online friend.
Beest • Jan 4, 2012 8:16 am
It got TK 421 - the only named stormtrooper in the original trilogy star wars.

traceur;785024 wrote:

Isn't this how they got the logic for those 20 questions games you can buy, crowdsourcing the logic then when it was accurate enough hard wiring it into a commercial product.

Expect akinator at stores next Christmas.

EDIT: Woah, it got Mrs Miggins from Blackadder
infinite monkey • Jan 4, 2012 8:27 am
For me, it got HR Pufnstuf!
footfootfoot • Jan 4, 2012 8:54 am
infinite monkey;785036 wrote:

that's not surprising at all. I would have guessed that too.
infinite monkey • Jan 4, 2012 8:59 am
I got a couple answers that differed from what the program expected (you can review them when you're done.)

Like, it asked me if my character was over 40. Now how the heck would I know HR's age?
classicman • Jan 4, 2012 11:08 am
infinite monkey;785036 wrote:

But did it get the last Hobo you killed? huh?
infinite monkey • Jan 4, 2012 11:12 am
He was nameless, and faceless. An everyhobo.
Spexxvet • Jan 4, 2012 11:21 am
Got
Korben Dallas
Mao
Bernadette from Big Bang Theory
infinite monkey • Jan 4, 2012 11:27 am
Miracle Whip, too.
Sundae • Jan 4, 2012 12:29 pm
We've had this before somewhere.
It's fun, but I think I checked out everyone I wanted to the last time.

I was impressed it got Scott Gill.
But that's probably too many other JB fans with too much time on their hands.
Happy Monkey • Jan 4, 2012 1:06 pm
It got "Hands of Blue" from Firefly, long before the questions made me think it was close.
glatt • Jan 4, 2012 1:26 pm
I figured I'd stump it with Mrs. Howell from Gilligan's Island, but after one incorrect guess, it got it rather quickly. And at the end, after you click yes, it tells you how many times your character has been chosen. Mrs. Howell was chosen as recently as yesterday and has been chosen 644 times.
Spexxvet • Jan 4, 2012 1:30 pm
21 questions to get Egon Spengler from Ghostbusters.
classicman • Jan 4, 2012 5:18 pm
Who?
footfootfoot • Jan 4, 2012 5:22 pm
Holy crap. IT got THX1138 in less than 20 guesses.

Dayum.
wolf • Jan 4, 2012 5:35 pm
Wow.

Got Dr. Sheldon Cooper, Mr. Spock, Robert Oppenheimer, Peter Tork, but had trouble with Major General Leslie Groves. Actually jumped the gun and guessed General Pershing, but got it on continuing with questions. Took longer than the others, though.

Couldn't get "Burke" from Andrew Vachss' Novels.
Spexxvet • Jan 4, 2012 6:53 pm
classicman;785196 wrote:

Egon Spengler from Ghostbusters. Harold Ramis' character.
Spexxvet • Jan 4, 2012 6:57 pm
25 to get Thomas Covenant
Gravdigr • Jan 4, 2012 7:04 pm
It got Thing (the hand in the box) from Addams Family.

This is just like Guess The Dictator/Sitcom Character.

And more fun than a barrel of midgets.

ETA: I beat the Akinator with 'Bear Claw Kris Lapp' from the movie "Jeremiah Johnson".
Spexxvet • Jan 4, 2012 7:33 pm
28 to get Tobor, the Eighth Man
Happy Monkey • Jan 4, 2012 8:13 pm
It got a Grue quite quickly.
BigV • Jan 4, 2012 8:57 pm
stumped him with Mariah the wind from Paint Your Wagon.
footfootfoot • Jan 4, 2012 9:53 pm
it got squirrel nutkin from beatrix potter in 27 questions with 2 wrong guesses
Flint • Jan 5, 2012 12:15 am
I was going for Terry Bozzio, it guessed Danny Carey (oddly close), and then shortly thereafter guessed Bozzio correctly. Next, I played Bald-Headed John, a character voiced by Bozzio on the Zappa album Joe's Garage. It got nowhere close, and then gave up.

Fun.
Flint • Jan 5, 2012 12:17 am
Happy Monkey;785234 wrote:

Is cheese dip your character's favorite food?

Sorry, wrong Groo.
Pete Zicato • Jan 5, 2012 5:19 pm
29 tries to get Laura Branigan.
wolf • Jan 5, 2012 5:26 pm
Hans Gruber in 20.
Pete Zicato • Jan 5, 2012 5:33 pm
Defeated him on Little Fuzzy, and Jimmie Spheeris.
glatt • Jan 5, 2012 8:06 pm
He doesn't know his PBS home improvement shows very well.

Roy Underhill and Richard Trethewey defeated him.
infinite monkey • Jan 6, 2012 12:39 pm
It got Buffy from A Family Affair.
classicman • Jan 6, 2012 2:16 pm
but not the vampire slayer?
What about the red shirt riley from star trek?
Gravdigr • Jan 6, 2012 5:47 pm
Beat it with Smoke Jensen from Johnstone's "The Last Mountain Man" series of novels.
infinite monkey • Jan 6, 2012 6:33 pm
We could do some betting here, or comparing.

OK, everyone go there with a Sleestak in mind. I bet he gets that one quickly. But wouldn't it be interesting to see if he guessed differently if one of us said "probably" or "probably not" or "i don't know"? I wonder if it would drive him to different conclusions.

I'm not saying skew any results. Answer as honestly as you can (because some answers you don't know, or you think maybe or maybe not) and see if any of us get different results.

He can name that Sleestak in...16 notes.
infinite monkey • Jan 6, 2012 6:37 pm
OK, it took 20, but he got it. There were a couple of questions that I found hard to answer so answered "probably" or "probably not."

That's probably a really easy one, but you get the drift.
wolf • Jan 6, 2012 8:23 pm
classicman;785623 wrote:

Riley was in command and wore a gold shirt. Everybody knows that.

Except, apparently, Akinator.

Stumped. Completely.
richlevy • Jan 6, 2012 9:16 pm
It figured out for me:

Ernest Hemingway
Jayne Mansfield - and I wasn't sure about some of her details

It figured out Kenny Powers from Eastbound and Down for my son who thought it was cool.
Pete Zicato • Jan 6, 2012 10:03 pm
I'm surprised that I stumped it with Winnie the Pooh.
infinite monkey • Jan 6, 2012 10:05 pm
Well, Pete...ahem...Winnie the Pooh is not actually a real person. That might have been where he got confused. Oh, and Winnie is male. Sorry.

:)
Pete Zicato • Jan 6, 2012 10:17 pm
Doesn't have to be a real person. One of the questions it asks is is the character real.
infinite monkey • Jan 6, 2012 10:28 pm
I was kidding. I was pretending that you had guessed that he was real.

*fizzle*

attempt at humor: unsuccessful
Clodfobble • Jan 8, 2012 12:12 am
Defeated it with Dave, from the Imagination Movers (but it did guess Smitty, another character from that show.)
footfootfoot • Jan 11, 2012 1:49 pm
It got Jim Helm in two guesses.

The first question was "Is this a man or a woman?"
The second question was "Are you touching yourself?"
Then it guessed Jim Helm.

Holy crap, that thing is good.
infinite monkey • Jan 11, 2012 1:51 pm
What was your answer to the first question?
footfootfoot • Jan 11, 2012 2:12 pm
Yes
Gravdigr • Jan 14, 2012 12:39 pm
Son of a bitch! It got Fred Bear. 40 questions. First, and only other guess, was T S Eliot. It was that far off.

IT FREAKIN GOT FRED BEAR!!!!

This is just insane.
footfootfoot • Jan 14, 2012 1:23 pm
Now try Howard Hill
Gravdigr • Jan 14, 2012 2:10 pm
I've been playing this damn game since before 11:30.

It got:

Elvis
Erica Kane (All My Children)
Augustus MacRae (Lonesome Dove)
Andy Dufresne (Shawshank Redemption)
Adam (of Adam & Eve)
The Serpent (from the Garden of Eden)
Odd Thomas
Leroy Jethro Gibbs
Fred Bear
Dr. Donald 'Ducky' Mallard (from NCIS)
Eddie The Dog (from Frasier)
Gerald Ford
Jerry 'Hands' Espensen (from Boston Legal)
Jerry Mouse (Tom & Jerry)
Denny Crane
footfootfoot • Jan 14, 2012 4:16 pm
I beat it with Howard Hill.

It guessed the guy from the movie Grizzly Man
It guessed a couple of others that I don't remember.
Then I added HH. IT learns each time.
Sundae • Jan 15, 2012 6:23 am
I liked that when I tried "Tubbs from League of Gentlemen" the pivotal question was whether my character had killed any human beings.

Yes.

But she didn't burn them!
Gravdigr • Jan 15, 2012 12:51 pm
It got Guenhwyvar, from the Forgotten Realms books.
