Watching Jersey Shore might make you dumber

This explains what's happening to the US.

Take note, fans of mindless reality shows like "Jersey Shore": New research suggests watching something dumb might make you dumber. In other words, you are what you watch.

BUT! that doesn't explain the loads of really smart kids I know who DO watch that crap.

is culture dead in America? Or do we, the oldsters, not understand it anymore? Or does DuChamps really suck as I believe he does???

There is no accounting for taste.

PLUS - Edward Albee's quip in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is sooooooo much funnier and superior to Duchamps stuff.

"Where is the .....euphamism?"

Good times.

I liked Jersey Shore.
I also like Big Brother and especially I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here... although like many people I watch primarily for Ant and Dec.

I also slavishly watch the Eurovision Song Contest.

However I watch no soap operas nor the X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing. I've even eshewed Britain's Got Talent since the change of judges.

In fact unless one of the above-mentioned reality series is on, I will watch less than 5 hours of TV a week. And that includes breakfast news as I sit and eat in the morning (once upstairs I switch to BBC Five Live on the radio).

All I am watching now is Misfits and Harry Hill's TV Burp.
Although there is a programme called My Child Is Not Perfect that I want to catch up on because one of the sections is about autism.

I can't see that using TV as relaxation is too damaging.
I've read some pretty dire books too.

yes....but what do you think of DuChamps?

I imagine even bright and clever people would perhaps gain something by watching well written, thought stimulating shows. When they watch stupid shows and lose 5% of their brains it isn't much of a loss, but to someone whose IQ is barely hitting 3 digits, a 5% loss could be devastating.

Think of it like money, a billionaire won't miss the price of a cup of Strabucks, but a minimum wage earner supporting 5 cats would.

Apparently reading threads about JS makes you dumber too, because I have no idea what you people are talking about.

Except foot. That makes sense! Foot, are you un-high?

I'm even off coffee now for a week or two.

"Nude descending a starcase" is brilliant. Have you ever been to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to see "The Door (Étant donnés)"?

I like Transition from Virgin to a Bride, but that's just me.

But I dismissed it right away thinking a bunch of snotty eye-scratching banshee makeupy hoooooowers prolly don't know much about high art.
