This couple is a daily visitor to my house and sometimes they bring the extended family with joeys.

Cute?...yes. But that big boy doesnt back off when you go near him and when I have the dogs, he actually comes at me.
Sundae • Nov 29, 2011 7:55 am
They are beautiful creatures though.

I like the possums.
Nearly every episode of Animal Rescue they seem to need to be hauled out of trouble.
But they look so CUTE!

That and mangy dogs kept by bogans of course.
But they are ususually flea ridden and have to be put down.
(and the dogs!)
Trilby • Nov 29, 2011 8:02 am
that is *so* cool!

is that your neighborhood, Ducks?
Sundae • Nov 29, 2011 9:27 am
Wait, what?!
Watching I'm a Celebrity - they had possum in their sausages tonight?!?!?

Nooooooes!
infinite monkey • Nov 29, 2011 9:29 am
The way they stand and their physique...they look like bodybuilders!

I wouldn't want to scrap with one.

How do they, um, taste?
Sundae • Nov 29, 2011 3:08 pm
I've eaten roo.
It's good. But easy to overcook.
Those buggers are ACTIVE and that means a low fat content.

with their tongues! just like you and me!
Sundae • Nov 29, 2011 3:35 pm
Snicker.

I missed the thrust of the question.
It's red meat. It's steaky and a tiny bit gamey.
But Jim's answer FTW.
ZenGum • Nov 29, 2011 6:14 pm
That big fella is pretty damn big. Given where you are and how he looks I presume he's an Eastern Gray rather than a Red, so by that standard he is BIG.
He could give someone a right kicking.

It is cool, but a little dangerous. Especially for the dogs. Are there any dams or lakes nearby?
xoxoxoBruce • Nov 30, 2011 2:22 am
And when he chases you, trying to escape you run into venomous spiders and snakes... or Crocodiles. They work together you know. :yesnod:
zippyt • Nov 30, 2011 2:27 am
dont forget the drop bears !!!
ZenGum • Nov 30, 2011 6:09 am
Trap-door wombats!
DucksNuts • Nov 30, 2011 3:45 pm
Yeah, Bri, that's right out my front door.

Zen, there's some manmade lakes two blocks from here, when were on the farm, when lost a dog to drowning at the paws of a roo. He is huge for a Grey and he shows no fear.

I dont mind im though, although I don't like cleaning up his shit.
Griff • Nov 30, 2011 4:39 pm
This looks like those shopped NASA photos of the moon. It stretches credulity. :gray:

footfootfoot • Nov 30, 2011 6:02 pm

ZenGum • Nov 30, 2011 6:04 pm
Lols.
Aliantha • Nov 30, 2011 6:15 pm

1. Would it attack you if you went outside?

2. If yes to #1, Can you eat them?
Lamplighter • Dec 2, 2011 9:36 am
Careful Merc. Roo meat is to some as horse meat is to others.
Griff • Dec 2, 2011 9:38 am
Delicious?
infinite monkey • Dec 2, 2011 9:43 am
A horse is a horse, first course, first course.

Taking liberties with a roo is somewhat different to just going outside, isn't it?
I go outside every day. Sadly my memory of the last time I took liberities with anyone has faded to grey...!
TheMercenary • Dec 2, 2011 10:50 am
But what if when you went outside a roo attacked you? And there was always a threat of one lurking behind a tree in your yard.
footfootfoot • Dec 2, 2011 10:55 am
"It was him or me, warden."
TheMercenary • Dec 2, 2011 11:00 am
I liked this one....:)

The only Wallabies you need to worry about are our national Rugby Union team. Kangaroos very very rarely attack, and only if backed into a corner or threatened. They prefer to run away. Generally it's best not to approach one in the wild, but they are not aggressive so won't attack for no reason.

Wallabies being much smaller are even more timid. There has been many a time I've heard wallabies and not seen them they are that elusive. Generally speaking you have nothing to worry about. If you wish to pat or see a kangaroo or wallaby close up, many of our wildlife parks have tame ones for you to visit.

Really depends on the Roo's history I guess.

These being town roos are not inclined to run away, especially this big boy protecting his girls and babies.

I have a healthy respect, I have taught the kids the same.
