Logging in also lets the system keep track of what posts have and haven't been read, otherwise the New Posts button doesn't work at all.

Yes, the account is still active. You can use the search function to find the user's posts by typing in the username; then, click on the username in the results page to access the user's profile. Only the membership listing is missing from the public board.

NO! The user has a control panel option of being "Invisible" and not showing up on the "Currently Active Users" list and "Last Activity" record. This is a user who WANTS to be noticed without interacting knowing full well that revealing a presence here is likely to generate discussion and probing. It's a diagnostic endeavor to elicit our feelings, after the passage of time and attrition, without the user ever having to actually ask us and it's being pulled off by someone already known to be smart enough and have an evasive character. If you need to put a label on the community's response to being used like this, you can call it counter-lurking. :eyebrow:

I have been popping in lurking from time to time for a loooong time, without logging in. No need to log in to see what people are up to. Awhile back I decided I might be ready to start posting again, but realized I had forgotten my password. UT kindly reset it, and I was able to finally log in again. One of the things I first did was change where my emails go if someone wants to email me. I didn't realize that screwed something up until I wanted to actually post something. And couldn't. I tried several different times before checking with UT to see what was up. So, that's why you saw me online, but I never posted anything. I just found out today that all seems to be back in order when someone pointed me in the direction of this thread.
I have no alterior motives for the log-ins, and I would never register under a sock puppet. I fucking hate them.
When I have time for 20 questions, I will gladly open myself up to it. Until then, Red and I are doing fine.
