Nothing to show this year. EHD/Bluetongue wiped us out a couple years ago, and the deer just haven't returned.

Coyotes and bobcats ain't helping either.

Here's a couple from the archives:

You named that cat "Bob"?
Gravdigr • Nov 16, 2011 6:09 pm
"Spot" seemed too obvious...

That picture was on fact or faked last night, so obviously a photoshop they didn't even investigate it.

What a great idea though, if went out prepped with a laptop you could do them on the spot and return the card in a few minutes.

Yep. Fairly healthy one, too, about thirty pounds.

ETA: And HARD to come by. Not so much rare, but, elusive. If you see a wild bobcat, count your self lucky.

I was going through Pop's trailcam pics deleting pictures of nothing, (some in triplicate, he had accidentally set one the cams to take three pics every time it was triggered), and repeat squirrel/turkey/raccoon pics, when I came across these. We have some of the most well-documented squirrels/turkeys/raccoons anywhere.

Yay! I found it!!

A buddy keeps sending me pics of his deer. Pretty dang nice steaks-on-the-hoof.

He and his sons (12-17) call him by the name I gave him. He is referred to as The Tallboy.

Where is that, down south? He looks like he's got a tiny head and a huge body/rack.

I thought deer down there don't get much bigger than ~125 -150 pounds but he looks hella jacked.

corn fed?
Gravdigr • Sep 27, 2015 6:15 pm
These were all within a 25 minute drive of my house.

These are pretty nice deer, yes, but we (south central KY) got some wallhangers running around. The deer around here are ALL corn fed. And soy bean fed. And wheat fed...

You can (and some hunters do) put out corn all year long, until the season starts. You can't hunt over a corn pile, or, put out corn, during hunting season. You can hunt by/over a corn field, though.

This fella puts out corn to get the deer to his cameras, to see what he has (deer-wise) in his hunting area. Of course, if the deer keep coming to the spot after he stops putting the corn out...

Well, lets just say that those deer want to go for a ride in his truck.

ETA: Those are not particularly young deer. In fact, the deer in the first 2 pix is around 5 years old, maybe more. That's getting up there for a buck.

wanna go for a ride in the truck.... LOL.

Truck Bucks, Nice.

Saw 5 deer today within 1/2 mile of my new bowhunting spot. a yearling and two medium does in one field, and two very hefty does in the other field.

There are a shit-ton of apple trees around this place and lots of fields.

I was talking with a couple of people today about venison and one of them made a comment about how it is the best organic meat you can get. Not being able to keep my mouth shut I had to point out that, considering how much most of the corn and other fields are sprayed with herbicides and pesticides, I wouldn't exactly call it organic...
Griff • Sep 29, 2015 7:27 am
NPR took the organic route on hunting this week... It is a huge apple year hereabouts.
footfootfoot • Sep 29, 2015 2:01 pm
Same here.
Gravdigr • Sep 29, 2015 4:46 pm
Our deer like apples, too. But ours will walk through an apple orchard to get to a persimmon tree.
