November 6, 2011 African Spurred Tortoise

Image

Third largest tortoise in the world.

Largest mainland tortoise in the world.

Females get up to 20" and males get up to 30".

My son wants a tortoise. My uncle has several. My cousin used to raise them until a virus wiped out the 20 that he had. They are fascinating, in a weird sort of way. I think they make for an odd pet, but that is just my opinion.

I love this image because it highlights so many geometric designs of nature. The face reminds me of an eagle with its beak-like mouth and flat nostrils.

OK, I'll take your word for it that it's a tortoise.

But that sucka looks to me like a eagle...
.. a BIG eagle... big enough to carry away my 95 lb Lab

BAG? How wastefully redundant of you. This is the *original* cup of soup, family size. Doncha see that bowl on the top there?

If you can't cuddle it, it's not a pet.*

That's not looking very cuddly.

*Also, if it can cuddle you to death, it's not a pet ... no pythons.

They don't like to be called broads, remember?

That's why they're uncuddleable.
