We must address the issue....

That was really interesting Merc, thanks.

I don;t often find myself agreeing with Hitchens (except when it comes to matters of religion) but he makes some pretty fucking compelling points in that piece.

I'm frankly despairing of anyone who denies that terrorists were responsible for the bombings on 11th September.
I was reamed out for this online and in person, but I can't say I'm really that bothered being friends with gullible crackpots high on conspiracy.

It does make me smile a little.
The media are quite responsible about things like this. In the whole of the programming scheduled for this week I have not heard one word giving creedance to the idea that this was orchestrated by the American Govt. Which might be a denial of some people's freedom of speech.

I prefer to see it as a drip-drip approach of intelligence on public sensibility.
I have never heard a creationist view on TV or the radio (here in the UK) either.
Although it probably helps that Darwin was English ;)

It is just another view. I respect alternative views on most issues. Really.... It provides a window.

Certainly an issue worth addressing. There have been some very interesting things written about 9/11. Some dusty, some crackpot, some neither.

David Foster Wallace asks, "are some things still worth dying for?"

Some repetitive.

"A lie makes it half way around the world before the truth even has its boots on."

We'll never know the extent of what happened and how on 9/11

I was a 'truther' from the start. I know that it is something that will never ever be clarified or proven. I don't have a problem doubting my governments story. If getting into the middle east was that important to them, I can see how 9/11 would be used as an essential tool.

That's why I always find it ironic when people talk about "the truth". Besides people with important information dying, people lie, make mistakes, and misinterpret information all the time. It is ridiculous to think that anyone will ever know, with 100% certainty, let alone 95%, what happened in any event such as 9/11.

Well, assuming you don't believe in our all-powerful shape shifting reptilian overloads of course...

Certainly not. I do embrace them, however.

Truthers: How Conspiracy Theories Spread

On September 11, 2001, two planes crashed into the Twin Towers in NYC, one plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and a final plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. But there’s a very vocal minority that doesn’t believe this story: Truthers.

These so called “Truth Activists” cite evidence that they say points to an alternative, and much more sinister version of events,
evidence that has been proved wrong countless times.
