Quiz nonsense: Missing States Plates?

monster • Aug 13, 2011 8:24 pm
We went to Yellowstone and we noted which State Licence Plates we saw on private vehicles (i.e. not trucks or U-Haul vans -Hebe's rules). We also saw three U.S. licence plates on cars that did not belong to any of the 50 States. We saw 51 plates in total (52 on all vehicles -there was one plate we saw a lot, but only on trucks.)

Here's your challenge:

1) Which two states did we not see represented on private vehicles. You have to name both. (666 nerd points)

2) Which one of those did we see on a truck but not a private vehicle? (13 nerd points)

3) which three non-state US plates did we see? You don't have to name all three, we think there's one easy, one medium-easy and one hard. (13, 42 and 333 nerd points)

person with the most nerd points will win user title bragging rights.

Was #3 a U.S. Government plate, no state, just slapped on the Men in Black's SUV?
monster • Aug 13, 2011 9:17 pm
Gov plate for 42 points......
monster • Aug 13, 2011 9:18 pm
the 333-pointer was one we'd never seen before, and we only saw the one.....
monster • Aug 13, 2011 9:19 pm
BONUS POINTS!

4) which was the last plate we spotted (yesterday)? It was a state plate. (51 nerd points)

Imma say Maine was on a truck but not a car since they have the cheap registration. We saw Hawaii on our Yellowstone trip... I say you didn't see Louisiana.
monster • Aug 13, 2011 9:47 pm
no points -and you have to get #1 right before answers to #2 are considered. hence the n/a for wolf.

But I will admit we saw Hawaii. What is with that? is it some rental get-around? and if so, why only there? we don't see them all the time at the airport rental lots.

You didn't see Mississip' or West Virginia.

Seen on a truck: Massachussetts.
Clodfobble • Aug 13, 2011 11:12 pm
Didn't see South Dakota or Rhode Island.
monster • Aug 13, 2011 11:19 pm
no more points scored
wolf • Aug 13, 2011 11:28 pm
The 333 was a diplomatic plate, then?

Who wouldn't go to Yellowstone ... probably like someone who lives in Philadelphia not going to the Liberty Bell ... but the rental cars would have Wyoming plates, so perhaps that's not it, but that's my guess. And for the one you saw on a truck.
monster • Aug 13, 2011 11:34 pm
oh wolf totally nails it! 333 points for the diplomatic plate
monster • Aug 13, 2011 11:36 pm
The 666 points for the twofer we didn't see are still wide open, though....

you have to get both before you can even consider (2)
Clodfobble • Aug 13, 2011 11:40 pm
North Dakota and New Mexico!
wolf • Aug 13, 2011 11:41 pm
So, the not seen is Alaska (for which I should get half points as I identified it first, we're just working on the second one) and ...

Ohio? But that doesn't make sense, because Ohio is so boring that people leave there to go other places a lot. Especially places that aren't excessively flat.
monster • Aug 14, 2011 12:03 am
and ohio is right like 30 miles away from AA....

no half points... all or nothing.....

I was thinking diplomatic plates, but the rules for those say you can't drive more than a certain radius from your embassy. Something like a couple hundred miles. And I don't think there are any embassies near Yellowstone.

Cursed diplomatic scofflaws and their diplomatic immunity.

I've seen them in DC, NYC, and rarely, Philadelphia. Couple on the Jersey Turnpike, too.

Dont read if you want to keep on guessing

OK so I'mma assign half points shared... or something. we didn't see Maine and Alaska on private-type vehicles. But we did see maine on trucks.

The very last state we got was West Virginia.
infinite monkey • Aug 15, 2011 8:33 am
I was totally gonna guess Maine.

Even on a long trip like that, it's amazing you saw most of the state plates.
