Version 1 or version 2?

Undertoad • Aug 12, 2011 4:28 pm
It's not a poll, just a simple question. Which do you prefer?

After this, I will reveal what the owner decided. I'm waiting for his call to discuss it!
classicman • Aug 12, 2011 4:37 pm
Version 1 - definitely #1
The other could cause a few problems with some peeps.

Its catchy, but ...
Undertoad • Aug 12, 2011 4:50 pm
One aspect to this, that is their slogan, and has been for a while.
Pico and ME • Aug 12, 2011 4:57 pm
I think the picture of the girl draws you in more...her smile, for instance.
Griff • Aug 12, 2011 4:58 pm
I'd use version three with her Mom instead.
jimhelm • Aug 12, 2011 5:03 pm
2
Undertoad • Aug 12, 2011 5:21 pm
Heh actually one of my propositions is that i do have a very beautiful Japanese friend who is 40 but looks 32. She could make a less suggestive model.

I'm also guessing this particular young lady could be a issue, because she's not a model -- she's the hostess who just happened to be there when we took pictures of their place.

I like the look of 2. She looks friendly and competant. And quite young and fun. But... I would be a little put off by the proximity of her hair to the food in the picture. Silly, I know, but with food, I am easily put off.

If they were advertising a club, or hotel, she'd be awesome.
HungLikeJesus • Aug 12, 2011 6:37 pm
Maybe you could have a model in the shirt holding the tray of sushi in front of her. That would take care of the hair issue and let the customer see the delicious raw fish.

1
zippyt • Aug 12, 2011 9:27 pm
2 !!
Perry Winkle • Aug 12, 2011 11:12 pm
#2. Human faces are good for sales. That's why even fugly ass real-estate agents put their mugs up everywhere.
infinite monkey • Aug 13, 2011 12:16 am
I like 2, too. She has such a great face is there a way to showcase that smile and dimples without obscuring more sushi?
Big Sarge • Aug 13, 2011 3:58 am
love number 2. it really catches the eye.
Sundae • Aug 13, 2011 4:49 am
Number 1
In Number 2 the sushi is larger than the waitress, and that would put me off.

Maybe she's a very small waitress?
Sperlock • Aug 13, 2011 11:43 am
I prefer number 2. Number 1 is okay, but it feels a bit empty. Having the waitress there gives me a better sense of balance.
Undertoad • Aug 13, 2011 12:05 pm
The dude hasn't called, I guess he's waiting until Monday for it.

why am i not first on everybody's schedule?
GunMaster357 • Aug 13, 2011 1:36 pm
#2. It's very appealing.

#1 seems a bit empty

That is really creepy.
Of course you know what I would fear then. That she would hide herself inside the take-away containers, jump out when I wasn't looking and play horrible tricks on me with her tiny little hands.

Thank goodness for Diz. He'll bite off her head.

Do *not* watch The Borrowers

Shame, really.
Sundae • Aug 13, 2011 5:13 pm
I don't need to - I read it.
I wasn't creeped out by it, but I didn't know much about the sheer malevolence of the very small back then.
Clodfobble • Aug 13, 2011 5:17 pm
I like #2 better--but if the owner goes with that one, he'd better get her to sign some sort of release. She may say she's cool with it now, but then later she gets fired, and sues because "her image" has been used to generate years of sales, etc. etc...
Gravdigr • Aug 13, 2011 6:28 pm
#2. But, I like Asian women. I mean, I really like Asian women.

That's racist isn't it?
glatt • Aug 13, 2011 8:43 pm
1 is about the food, 2 is about the staff.

I personally prefer 1, because it's about the food for me.
wolf • Aug 13, 2011 9:09 pm
Version 1.

I'm sure she's a very nice hostess, but they aren't selling her, as far as I know.
classicman • Aug 14, 2011 8:36 pm
Version 3 - Put the girl in the corner somewhere less conspicuous and not covering the food. She is a great compliment, but not the main course... I hope.

To me, #2 doesn't look "professional".
jimhelm • Aug 17, 2011 4:55 am
not a fan of the brown. what else ya got? mint green? uhm.... perhaps a soft rose?
footfootfoot • Aug 17, 2011 8:26 am
Neither, it's about the food and that is not prominent enough.
Undertoad • Aug 17, 2011 10:40 am
It's really an orange gradient because the guy is stuck on orange. It's people's least favorite color in surveys, but the dude's walls are orange. Here's the current website, which I also did before he decided he wanted to go whole-hog marketing. Check the walls:

http://makimanonline.com/

The walls form their own orange gradient with the lighting, so that's what I went with this time.

Guy has not called back! WTF!
Sundae • Aug 17, 2011 11:45 am
It's too orangey for crows.
But I must admit I'd eat there.
monster • Aug 17, 2011 1:43 pm
Also not a fan of the brown. More orangey would work better -like the background on the website you did. Don't cover the food with the girl or the buttons imo. The girl is cute, though, but in the wrong place. I'd go for 1 of the two.
Spexxvet • Aug 17, 2011 1:50 pm
On line table registration is a cool feature, UT.
Undertoad • Aug 17, 2011 1:52 pm
Y'alls input is really helpful. Thanks dwellars!

If the guy ever calls back I can tell him I ran the design through a panel and got feedback.
Undertoad • Aug 17, 2011 1:54 pm
Yeah the online reservation system company, OpenTable, really have their stuff worked out. And we have gotten referral work out of them, which is awesome.
monster • Aug 17, 2011 2:27 pm
So what is the new webpage for?
Undertoad • Aug 17, 2011 4:57 pm
He wants something bigger and more in-yer-face marketing-ish.

Now that I've talked to him, this design is now scrapped entirely (sorry folks, your input was not actually needed). I just love it when clients reject my design 100%. I only wish I had been there in person for it and not on the phone.

It will be redone as an almost complete copy of one of the major pizza sites.
HungLikeJesus • Aug 17, 2011 6:36 pm
I know it's too late, but maybe each of the buttons could be a piece of sushi.

I'm not a bad person, but my mind has a mind of its own. Suppressing bad joke now.
