Riddle me this, haiku man!

SamIam • Aug 9, 2011 12:50 pm
What am I? Haikus:

"What am I?" Haiku. These act like a riddle. The writer uses the Haiku to describe something.
The reader tries to guess what the guess what the poet was describing after reading the Haiku.

So, in this thread
1. WRITERS: posts a haiku

2. READERS: CUT AND PASTE the Haiku in their thread and try to guess
what the person is describing

3. WRITERS: try to acknowledge the right answer. cut and paste it into your congrats post

4. WRITERS : can add other Haiku's to be guessed at any time

I’ll start:

We three see nothing
forever scavenging food
your house is our home

But you say "people" not "laydees"

I will keep guessing.

Brush has to be part of it thanks to the clever use of bristle.

A bit is 12.5 cents, originally it was half a quarter, that is, half of 25 cents. Hence you'd put in your two bits worth = 25c.

You're gonna spit when you get it.

Six and four fifths bits

Today's carry over riddle is:

Clue: may coincide with the end of the world.

and from easy to hard, as I see them:

Orbs wrapped in silk

stole her sister's show

Huge nasal niggle,
rearranged; self describing
you're looking at it.

Seventy two quarters

And most of the exchanges between Vincent and Jules were "fucking this fucking that." My favorite is what I think was a mistake but left in...when V and J are walking to Flock of Seagulls et al's apartment, arguing about why Marsellus pushed Tony Rocky Horror out of a fourth story window, and Vincent says "and Antwone should have fucking better known better..."

Yeah, Willis was a fighter who was supposed to go down in the 5th, or something. But he didn't. That's why "punchy" (Butch) was in so much trouble with Marsellus Wallace.

I've only watched it like 100 times or something.

I have seen an abstract for a philosohpy seminar where Samuel L Jackson was referred to as "an icon of contemporary negritude".

Look. I know it's been posted before. Fuck it.

Gone by a little while ago now, actually, and was going in opposite directions.

You're on track with two of the same kind of thing; but, they're out of this world.

You got the gist of things being fictional; however, the Cellar Brits would be more keen on the subject than the Aussies.

You're almost there! The clue "home sweet home" refers to places of origin. I emboldened Dr. Who when earlier quoting you to redirect you beyond the people/characters (Dr. Who is the story, the lead character is simply the Doctor). Congrats so far on seeing the story parallels and going for both of the possible answers, either one of which solves the riddle.
sexobon • Oct 10, 2011 8:15 pm
This one has stagnated; so, here are two answers either one of which works:

In the red.
Home sweet home.
Another time, another place.
Fictitious with a parallel from across the pond.

Gallifrey
Covered in red grass.
The last child of Gallifrey (the Doctor).
Gone from the present, time locked during time war.
British Sci-Fi about a superior race on an alien planet, lost to disaster, giving Earth a space and time travelling hero with other extraordinary capabilities.

Krypton
In the light of a red sun.
The last son of Krypton (Superman).
Gone from the present, exploded.
American story about a superior race on an alien planet, lost to disaster, giving Earth a space and time travelling hero with other extraordinary capabilities.

Sorry for not pursuing... I had nowhere near enough knowledge to penetrate those spheres.

(I did spend some time trying to put together the "red" as mortage forclosure, etc., but that got to be too silly even for me.)

(Thinking Captains Courageous for fish and fog.)

So is it a movie, or an actor. It's NOT Spencer Tracy, or it IS Spencer but naught to do with Cap'n Courageous?

btw I LUVZ Spencer Tracy. He's right behind Gregory Peck in Dead Actors ILF. Seriously, he was brilliant.

And TRacy wasn't in A Bridge Too Far but he was in Judgment at Nuremberg. Which was the same war.

Have you seen Captains Courageous? It's wonderful!
Lamplighter • Oct 12, 2011 3:44 pm
On Capt C, I don't think I've seen it... but this may just be a senior moment.

The book came out in the early 50's and my favorite aunt gave me a copy. It's still on my bookshelf.

In a different thread I've described the situation for my grandson.
We got him to read this book when things were bad, and it "took".
He started reading again and things have improved ever since.
