August 9, 2011 Snake Bus

I have seen this on several sites and can't figure out the originator, so no credit given to the photographer.

One comment on one of the sites:

I've googled this pic and only ever found one recurring view, a side-on shot as above. If this is not just a photoshopped pic I'd be surprised...unless I see
a three quarter view or more pics in different locations I'll remain unconvinced.
Such a unique bus would have had people snapping away like mad things and the pics would have been emailed to all and sundry within a heartbeat....
unfortunately this does not appear to be the case.
Lets see some more pics to ease my scepticism

I don't know . . . what do you think?

In any case, I still think it is very creative.

I think it's really cool, and I've seen buses painted up with scenes similar to this before, so it's certainly possible. But I think it might not be real because anyone who goes to that much trouble to paint a bus will put the name of the zoo on the side too.

I guess it is real...

It's Copenhagen.
These guys claim it:

Yeah, that's pretty cool.

I like the shark-jaws-for-doors theme, too.

Ah, if it is in Copenhagen, why isn't the message on the side written in Copenhagenish?

Local people don't go to the zoo. Tourists go to the zoo.

Unless... the name of the zoo is just "zoo". You know, like the Seinfeld diner in NYC, the big neon sign just says "Restaurant".

Not true.
Aliantha • Aug 9, 2011 8:10 pm
'Zoo' might be the name of a night club or something.
BigV • Aug 9, 2011 8:15 pm
where you can get your crush on, eh?

someplace you can go with your main squeeze?

ride the snake bus to the club where you can ... um, nevermind.

for the record, my local zoo's website is just zoo.org -- simple

I once worked for a year for a big sticky paper/plastic company. During my training one of the things I learned was that printing onto sticky plastic has made this sort of custom job much much much cheaper. Whereas once you had to paint the actual bus, now you download the pics onto a template and have it printed it out on big bits of sticky plastic, which is fitted onto the vehicle like a jigsaw. You can have perforated see-through sections for the windows, so you can cover pretty much the entire bus.

And when you're done with that ad/image, it's relatively easy to remove, ready for the next ad to be stuck on.

You can see loads of examples by googling "bus wrap" or "vehicle wrap" for images.

You guys are awesome researchers! I looked and didn't find anything.

It is a very ingenious art, these wraps. I love the shark bus!

I was also wondering, if this was "photoshopped" how could someone produce something so detailed that way? It would take a lot of work to put in the crack marks and other details, wouldn't it? Or I am I just being naive?
grynch • Aug 10, 2011 9:02 am
naive I'm afraid.. this whole site is "shopped"

Wow, my world just expanded as to what can be done with a computer and a photograph.

Did you find our snake bus? I looked around a bit and couldn't find it.
grynch • Aug 10, 2011 9:25 am
I have little doubt the bus is real... I've seen similar things on the street ... but again what a talented digital artist can do really is amazing.

I'm tired of this mothereffin' snake on the mothereffin' bus!

(Can't believe this wasn't noted before.) ;)

Thing is, because to create the 'wrap' you have to use photoshop, any resulting real photo is going to look photoshopped because you're photoshopping a photoshop.

Still, don't care either way - it is a cool pic:)
