A BOOBY-trapped car explodes as a bomb disposal expert approaches in a desperate bid to
disarm a device inside. But incredibly he escaped with his life.

The man took the full force of the blast yesterday but his heavy body
armour saved him from serious injury as the vehicle disintegrated
in a cloud of smoke and flame.

Wow!

Thank goodness!
I though the red in the blast cloud was parts of his body, but it must only be the rear lights.

Apparently he got as far as starting to turn away from it when it exploded.

Actually this is a new technique to discourage bears (especially those in Star Wars costume) from breaking into campers' cars in National Parks.
They are strong enough to rip the window right out of the door. Luckily they are not smart enough to use the open door.

I always thought those moon suits were a joke. How could that save anyone? I stand corrected.

I had the chance to pick up the 'top-half' of a suit like that once.

Heavier than you can believe.

It's the conservation of momentum angle. A heavier suit will accelerate more slowly given the compressed air that whacks into it. That limits the meat tenderization.
