The last draftee retires. It was an honor to have him.

Happy Independence Day to all of you.

http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/declaration.html

There was a time when our Congress did something useful. Hard to believe.

Thank you to all of you past and present who help to keep our Country alive and well.

Thanks for that mini history Merc.
IT struck me at the end of the video with the little Asian kid next to the flag that what makes us American isn't so much being born here (though that helps) but really embracing being American (and then obtaining citizenship)

I really don't feel that it's very polite for people to come to any country and then expect to be accommodated.

I, for one, embrace our founding fathers. Our millionaire's club house and senate? Not so much.

Major apols for not sending you all cards.
Mum was quite appalled this morning to find that I hadn't.

She doesn't seem to grasp that:
1) it's not a card occasion (do excuse my faux pas if it is)
2) you majorly outnumber me
3) 99.99% would far rather I use the money to pay off a debt or put money into the Cellar tip jar than buy and post numerous cards. The 0.01% will be buttfucked in the mouth by Monster.

That said - many happy teabags, light the blue touchpaper and enjoy x

Yah. Happy 4th July to all Merkin Dwellars!

You mean people actually go to work on 4 July in England?
DanaC • Jul 4, 2011 6:25 pm
No. We hold a day of national mourning for the loss of our troublesome colonies.

Thanks DC. I would have to say after the Aussies it is one of the largest land grabs in history. And what a long strange history it has been.:p:

Come on, admit it, you're happy to be rid of us. Sure, sure, you still want us to call on Christmas and your birthday, but you know being an empty-nester suits the lot of you. :)

Nope, not a card sending holiday.

Fireworks, barbecues, and the opportunity to say "here, hold my beer" and do something that will go viral.

Just got back from the family cottage up Honesdale way.

This guy isn't in our family, and I don't know him, but he's all kinds of awesome.

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day!:f207:

[youtubewide]w1213z9KHNs[/youtubewide]

All:

We're waiting for the chirp, chirp, chirp

Of an eaglet being born

We're waiting for the chirp, chirp, chirp

On this humid Monday morning in this

Congressional incubator

Franklin:

God knows the temperature's hot enough

To hatch a stone, let alone an egg

All:

We're waiting for the scratch, scratch, scratch

Of that tiny little fellow

Waiting for the egg to hatch

On this humid Monday morning in this

Congressional incubator

Adams:

God knows the temperature's hot enough

To hatch a stone

Jefferson:

But will it hatch an egg?

Adams:

The eagle's going to crack the shell

Of the egg that England laid

All:

Yes, so we can tell, tell, tell

On this humid Monday morning in this

Congressional incubator

Franklin:

And as just as Tom here has written

Though the egg may belong to Great Britain,

The eagle inside belongs to us!

All:

And as just as Tom here has written

We say to hell with Great Britain!

The eagle inside belongs to us!

And it's hot as Hell in Phila-del-phee-a ...

(knowing the truth of that line always makes me laugh)

no blue touchpaper here -fuse shorter than a birthday candle.

No cards.

Monster gave up on you and your spending a while back, but this was a good choice...... and pay off debts before hitting tip jar. or getting a manicure.. or lashing out on fancy food... or ... oh wait, I gave up. ;) :p:

Why of course, they just don't celebrate. :D

I think they would have a good argument to make to just skip the day and remove it from their calendars... July 2, 3, 5, 6....

Our weather cooled off and it was one of those really great cool summer days in PDX.
Lots of people out walking and talking.

Unfortunately, there were the annual traffic- and water-accidents

Here's hoping all dogs are safe after last night's celebrations.
