Computer virus lets 30,000 “ugly” people join exclusive dating site

A dating website that prides itself on matching only the best-looking individuals has deleted the accounts of more than 30,000 users after a computer virus accidentally allowed them to skip the site's screening process. BeautifulPeople employes a strict community voting system that only grants accounts to good-looking applicants, but the aptly-named "Shrek" virus changed that, letting new users skip the screening protocols and begin interacting with the "beautiful" people.

Dating sites like eHarmony and Match have gained popularity in recent years among people who simply don't have the time, and perhaps patience, to meet a potential mate by more traditional means. Virtual matchmaker BeautifulPeople takes this concept a step further, by screening applicants based on looks, allowing only the most perfectly sculpted specimens to join its ranks. Members who pass the test pay $25 per month to be matched with other hotties.

Once the virus was discovered, the site's managing director Greg Hodge decided that the only way to correct the problem was to boot the 30,000 less-desirable users from the site, stating, "We have to stick to our founding principles of only accepting beautiful people — that's what our members have paid for. We can't just sweep 30,000 ugly people under the carpet."

WTH? Who gets to decide what "ugly" is?

MARILYN MANSON - The Beautiful People

And I don't want you and I don't need you
Don't bother to resist or I'll beat you
It's not your fault that you're always wrong
The weak ones are there to justify the strong

The beautiful people, the beautiful people
It's all relative to the size of your steeple
You can't see the forest for the trees
And you can't smell your own shit on your knees

There's no time to discriminate,
Hate every motherfucker
That's in your way

Hey you, what do you see?
Something beautiful, something free?
Hey you, are you trying to be mean?
You live with apes man, it's hard to be clean

The worms will live in every host
It's hard to pick which one they eat most

The horrible people, the horrible people
It's all anatomic as the size of your steeple
Capitalism has made it this way,
Old-fashioned fascism will take it away

Hey you, what do you see?
Something beautiful, something free?
Hey you, are you trying to be mean?
You live with apes man, it's hard to be clean

There's no time to discriminate,
Hate every motherfucker
That's in your way

The beautiful people
The beautiful people (aahh)
The beautiful people
The beautiful people (aahh)
The beautiful people
The beautiful people (aahh)
The beautiful people
The beautiful people (aahh)

Hey you, what do you see?
Something beautiful, something free?
Hey you, are you trying to be mean?
You live with apes man, it's hard to be clean

Hey you, what do you see?
Something beautiful, something free?
Hey you, are you trying to be mean?
You live with apes man, it's hard to be clean

The beautiful people
The beautiful people
The beautiful people
The beautiful people
The beautiful people
The beautiful people
The beautiful people
The beautiful people

Sadly, none of the nerds who could have helped them met their stringent standards.;)

I don't get why anyone less than perfect (looking) by societal standards would even try to join a site like that. For one thing, the types of people likely to be members are most likely to be narcisists of the highest order who would only heap scorn on those they deem not worthy anyway.

BUT!!!!!

If you were voted in, and you got a date with another one of the beautiful people on the site, your chances of having a date that "just so happened" to have lots of chances to see yourself in a mirror would be much higher than one with ... those people. So, bonus!

Think about it, everybody wins!

Anyone else think it's all staged for free publicity? I had never heard of this site before this alleged incident.

I think only beautiful people know about it. ;) (and about 30k dorks)

Well, we were SO happy when they got rid of the 30,000 riffraff. Ugh. I mean, it was totally scorching my groove and bumming my stone! Not to mention they made my hair look flat and my butt look big. Hmmph.

(Actually, who would WANT to be a part of a community of people who think their beauty is the be-all end-all of everything that transpires on earth? Not me! Have at it, lovelies!) ;)

Can we start a dating site that excludes stupid people? I would find that more useful.
