Swimmin' n things

monster • Jun 8, 2011 7:34 pm
I just swam over two miles non-stop. I am mighty proud. I just didn't seem to want to stop. It felt wondeful. My hands and feet are all pruny now.

I'm keeping a log this season 'cause I'm a nerd like that. That takes me up to nearly 7 miles so far (pool opened 28th May and I was away for 4 days). And I biked this morning. This week I've biked or walked every morning and swum every afternoon. And mowed the lawn once. I came back from Chicago 4lb lighter than when I went and haven't gained one back (I normally fluctuate like crazy, so the 4lb disappearing is not unusual, but it not coming back is). And the heat is keeping my appetite down. So here's hoping I really actually am going to keep it up and get just a little skinnier. Go me :D

()

Is that what you kids are calling it these days?
infinite monkey • Jun 9, 2011 8:54 am
I am the envy.

I love to swim. I love water. I could live in the water. But even though I took all those lessons as a kid I can't do the strokes right and so instead of doing laps I end up doing mermaids (diving and surfacing and flipping around backwards.)

Would be awesome to incorporate real swimming into an exercise regime.

Keep it up!

Don't get hung up on pounds, muscle is denser than fat so often as you get buff your weight will increase or the loss will seem imperceptible.

Use the fit of your clothing as a better guide to how you are doing, and be aware of salt and its water retaining qualities.

And most importantly it's not how you feel but how you look, and you look mahvelous
infinite monkey • Jun 10, 2011 10:31 am

I biked in the rain this morning, how hardcore is that?!!1!1.

(Only 'cause I had no choice -it started raining on the way back....)

Now I really crave chocolate and all that I could find was way out of date..... and is now in the bin, so I guess that's another job done.

Riding in the pouring rain-very hard core, but the resulting street cred is well worth it. :)

Re fluctuations, one of the less interesting parts of my job is having to teach graph description, so a couple of days ago, I taught vocab to describe what lines do-one of those things is fluctuate. Today, we had a quick look at shape description because they have to be able to describe objects as well. We didn't have a lot of time so to really drive home the idea of jagged, I gave a bit of paper a jagged edge with a pair of scissors (well, just indulging my primary school tendencies, but it was fun). One of the less able students (a uniformed civil servant in his late 30s) looked at it and said....isn't that fluctuate?

I must've missed the video but I remember seeing the picture. :D If I let an insult bother me everytime, I would've dug up a hole and buried myself long time ago. Woman, post a pix when you're comfortable. And it's to share with the rest of us who care. Those don't care don't matter shit.

I don't care about the pounds too. I've lost some weight, but my measurements are still the same. Which sucks majorly. But I'm not discouraged. You keep on swimming, walking, biking whenever you've got the chance. By the way, biking in the rain sounds super fun. Jogging in the rain is cool too. :D
footfootfoot • Jun 10, 2011 5:27 pm
You measurements are the same because your stamina is so much more tumescent. I can almost see it form where I'm sitting.
monster • Jun 11, 2011 9:24 pm
back in the pool after two days too busy to swim... 100 lengths (just over a mile)...but that's two weeks with some form of decent exercise every day. And I re-lost one of those evil recovered pounds this morning.

the second pound disappeared the next day, but this morning i found the fuckers again. Srsly, belly, it's time you started fluctuating in a downwards trend  We swam 3/4 of a mile and walked yesterday and ate almost nothing and you got heavier? tried that. I'm not so alky that any alcohol will do. I like cold fizzy I can gulp. I did switch exclusively to the lower cal beer, though.....

Only weigh yourself weekly. Daily fluctuations will drive you crazy.

and it's a short drive :p
monster • Jun 14, 2011 11:52 am
Nope. I've weighed myself daily for years, still as sane as ever. I'm used to the fluctuations, don't patronize me. This is just a chatter "oh look how awesome I am" thread. Unsolicited advice is unsolicited.

As it happens I'm actually quite pleased that there is less fluctuation than there used to be/usually is. Weekly weigh-ins would worry me that I wouldn't know if it was fluctuation or gain/loss. Math nerds, gotta hate 'em.
monster • Jun 14, 2011 11:55 am

I was gonna agree with Spexxvet, but I guess not. :p: Actually, I weigh myself daily too, hihi. And yeah, damn weight fluctuation is frustrating. But the weight by the assigned weigh in day is what I take down. I totally understand your frustration, Monster. Oh yeah, if your face is slimmer, then it's a good sign. Eventually, one day when you don't know it or seems like never, your waist will start to trim down. Fat is so damn stubborn.
monster • Jun 16, 2011 8:11 am
seems like lying on the sofa drinking beer and watching hockey too late is the key ;) re-lost those pounds and another one!!!!!. I shall change my exercise strategy accordingly :D

For maximum weight loss the recommended strategy is playing hockey while watching people lying on the sofa (who are) drinking beer.
