I thought you'd never ask!

I was looking up how they make sex scenes so realistic, you know? and I read that a lot of actors use a merkin to cover up the bits with.

Who knew?

we never said it was slang for American ( which is actually 'gas tanks') y'all just assumed it was cause it sounds similar.

and we just omitted to correct y'all ;)

I thought everyone knew that. That's why that "stupid moustache and beard" thread, I used the word merkin.

Hell, I learned it on here. About 5 years ago.

hey, I say all y'all. Because I noticed you were a Merkin and relaized that you must understand that while wearing your stars and stripes top hat and chewing the gum of bubbles. I really like that big animal you have there, the one with the scales and small eyes that is good for the hunting. I think how you say cheney?

I wrote you, but didn't want you think I meant you you but was generalising to all and sundry.

Theres a thread somewhere about the lack of the you plural in The Queen's English .

Doesn't the OED also cite it as a mop for cleaning a cannon, in the words of the late H. Allen Smith -- where I learned the word as an adolescent? Goes in the bore, I gather, and the term was 17th-18th century.

Disappeared before the tenth or eleventh century, no? In the mutual abrasions of grammatical forms between the Angle and the Saxon.

not the shorter OED

...but maybe that's just what the higher class of soldier used them for? The more urbane guerillas?
