I needed to start a new thread so people would respond.

My skin is so dry it hurts. I've tried everything I can think of --what works for you?

(and thanks for playing)

gold bond super duper stuff:

not cheap... $9 for that I think....

but the knock off brands seem to work too.

Aveeno seems to be good around here. Where I live we are plagued with dry dry wind and skin gets painful.

Mega EPA/DHA fish oil caps
Pico and ME • Apr 18, 2011 11:47 am
Are you moisturizing BEFORE you get out of the shower? That's the only thing that helps me. Even then, my skin is still as dry as parchment, but at least it doesn't itch.

I like Palmer's cocoa butter oil, or Neutrogena body oil.

I have not ever tried gold bond but it seems to have a good reputation for bringing relief to extreme dry skin.

Aveeno.

eta and the knock-off brands are not as good. This from someone who rarely buys branded if there's an imitation

Hydrous ointment, also called Oily cream.
limey • Apr 18, 2011 12:31 pm
Dana. She knows.
DanaC • Apr 18, 2011 1:22 pm
It's available online:

http://westons.com/acatalog/Online-Catalogue-OIL64J.html#a

There are no active ingedients or perfumes. It is awesome, unless you have a sensitivity to lanolin or petroleum jelly.
Trilby • Apr 18, 2011 1:24 pm
thanks!

I knew I could count of you guys!

Esp. Dana. :)

You can blend together your own, Bri. Go to walgreens/cvs/walmart and find an ointment with lanolin in it, an oil with glycerin in it (the type they sell for use in the shower, usually), and (if you can) a cream with shea butter, and blend them together. I'm a concoction maker.
monster • Apr 18, 2011 2:02 pm
Lanolin is teh grease of teh debbil for me -itchy itchy itchy.
monster • Apr 18, 2011 2:03 pm
I haven't seen Oilatum here, but that stuff's pretty soothing, added to bath water or applied to wet skin in the shower. Makes you very slippery, though.
DanaC • Apr 18, 2011 2:18 pm
Oh yeah. Oilatum rocks.
pensive pam • Apr 18, 2011 3:27 pm
Hope that helps...just another depressing day for me.

Pam.

St. Ives Swiss Formula Vitamin E.

I like it mostly because it smells good, though...it has been so rainy here lately that heavy-duty lotion would just be overkill.
Clodfobble • Apr 18, 2011 6:31 pm
For just dry skin, there are tons of options. But if there's any eczema involved at all, I highly recommend California Baby's Calendula Cream. It's fantastic.
morethanpretty • Apr 18, 2011 8:32 pm
Oil of Olay for my face, Aveeno for everything else. Although when I used to shave my legs a lot, I used creamy vasoline and it worked pretty awesome, I just don't shave as much now so I don't need something that heavy.
jimhelm • Apr 18, 2011 8:34 pm
Mangoo makes some great lotion, but it takes a while to shake it out of the container.

sorry.
DanaC • Apr 18, 2011 8:35 pm
*shakes head*
ZenGum • Apr 18, 2011 9:54 pm
You'll need to shake more than the head, Dana.
DanaC • Apr 19, 2011 6:06 am
See, now, that's probably where I've been going wrong all these years.
Trilby • Apr 19, 2011 8:11 am
*snort*

Mangoo - took me a minute but then...bingo.
Glinda • Apr 19, 2011 2:40 pm

I have discovered this to be true also. And yeah, generic is my friend.

Sometimes I find plain old baby oil is as good as anything. Sorbolene is also good. I assume you get those sorts of things over there.

If olive oil comes from crushed olives and peanut oil comes from crushed peanuts, then where does baby oil come from?
DanaC • Apr 20, 2011 6:21 am
Answer's in the question?
