Post Your Collection

Gravdigr • Apr 17, 2011 4:37 pm
Post your collections of whatever here. Flashlights. Cars. Dildos. Toenail clippings. Whatever.

In my case, it's lighters. Here are most of my Zippos, and a few others.

Because Tulip asked nicely. Twice.

Pic 2 is a ZipLight, a fairly bright single LED light that fits in a standard Zippo case.

Pic 3 is "The Cent Never Spent" to repair a Zippo lighter.

Pic 4 is one of Grandpappydigr's Zippos (I cut the lighter out of the pic, dangit, you can see it in the big pic), sent through the Zippo Repair Clinic circa 1972; and a Zippo w/a fossilized shark tooth.
Gravdigr • Apr 17, 2011 4:47 pm
Top pic is a Zippo Blu, a "modern" blue jet-flame lighter, w/classic wheel and flint for ignition; and a Zippo Rule, a ruler made from the bottom of a standard Zippo.

The others aren't Zippos, just interesting. Uncle Jarhead offered me $25 for the little lighter with the Eagle Globe & Anchor.
Gravdigr • Apr 17, 2011 4:48 pm
What do you got a bunch of?
skysidhe • Apr 17, 2011 6:06 pm
I like lighters grav. Good collection:)

I have got a bunch of bears and angels. I don't like bears and angles so much as to have a collection but people just give them to me. I only have one stuffed bear. He is wearing motorcycle gear, and so, that's ok.

I would post a pick but the bears are boxed away and the angels are scattered.

I'll think of something, else and post a pic sometime.
Griff • Apr 17, 2011 6:37 pm
That is a cool collection digr. I'll think of something to start hoarding soon enough. :)

SCHWEEEET !!!
TheMercenary • Apr 17, 2011 11:11 pm
I have since traded in the Sig for a Glock 30. And added a Ruger .22 and inherited another one. I need to update my pic. This does not include my 16 or so Long guns.
Tulip • Apr 18, 2011 2:16 am
Nice Zippos, Grav. :) I'm gonna make more comments later, but I want to show off my small knife collection first. :D
sexobon • Apr 18, 2011 3:53 am
That's a nice collection Tulip. I see you're fond of one-handed openers. Do you have family Eskrima training?
Tulip • Apr 18, 2011 4:46 pm
Nopes. I did learn the double baton once, but that was just once for performance. I didn't practice enough to use. :(
infinite monkey • Apr 18, 2011 4:53 pm
Grav, love the Women of the Moose. Dad was a Moose (I think he dropped his membership when the club moved way across town) and used to tease mom "with an attitude like that, you'll never get into Moosehaven."

Tulip: my dad has a collection of knives he keeps in a nice box. We call it "Dad's Killin' Box."

:)
plthijinx • Apr 18, 2011 4:54 pm
very nice collections all!
i used to have a very nice collection of zippos, knives, and guns but lost all of them in the crazy bitch disaster. i may still have some knives or zippos though. i haven't seen my storage since i've been home and my sister is not sure what all my mom packed up when i went down. here though are a few of what i used to have.
Clodfobble • Apr 18, 2011 6:28 pm
Tulip, you are fascinating. First you play the ukulele, then you have a flashlight collection, and now a knife collection. What other wacky secrets do you have??
Tulip • Apr 18, 2011 7:03 pm
I also have a Zippo, pen, and sword collection, which I'll post the pix later. :D

I thought reading this thread I don't have a collection. DOH! :smack:

I swear I have not added to this in a decade but there are 3 shelves in that curio besides these I have photographed real quick. Then there is the clock the stained glass, the plate, and I do have the original oil painting used by the Danbury Mint to recreate the plate and the clock.

i like the bottom left pic that mentions sex!

(been 10 months, gimme a break! :lol2:)

Gravdigr: Pity I can't see your Zippos closer. You've got some nice ones there. I really like the Zippo with the ruler. :D The other ones are neat too!

Mercenary: I don't know anything guns but I'm gonna make a comment anyways. Those look nice. :D I thought you might have a bigger collection than that. Or did not consider your rifles in the gun collection?

Nirvana: All those look like your dog. Or is everything fashioned after your dog?

sexobon: I like one-handed opener knives because I pocket my knives. I want to be able to open them quickly to use in case I need to.

Rifles not included. I think we counted 27 total in the collection last count.

The Danbury mint items were created from a photograph of one of my dogs.
I saw my Best of Opposite Sex ribbon showed up in that photo and I left it in for giggles! :p:

Hmm....it's just a pretty and cute knife? :p: It's great for opening boxes. :D I thought you meant the white handle one, second to last from the bottom, when I read your question. That goes into my keychain in my purse.

Got a new addition for my plane collection this week. Went to Asheville, NC, and picked this old transitional plane up at an antique store there. A belated birthday present from my mother in law. It's about 110 years old.
glatt • Apr 22, 2011 5:42 pm
I didn't start out wanting to be a plane collector. These are tools that I use, and each has a special job it does. I've got 8 of them so far. Each has a story.

Don't you think that's a bit unkind?
glatt • Apr 22, 2011 5:52 pm
This was my grandfather's. It's really the peak of the technology of mass production plane making. It's a Stanley Bedrock jack plane. An excellent all around tool. A few years before I inherited this, my brother had given me a modern version of essentially the same plane. That modern version is a really expensive and lovingly built reproduction of the old tool. It keeps everything good about the original and improves on it by machining to finer tolerances and using heavier iron for the cutting edge. It's a really beautiful tool, made by a small company in Maine, and it works really well, but I prefer the one my grandfather used.

There's a place in Denver called Packrat Antiques that has great science antiques. There's an old man who runs it who is notoriously rude. My experience matched most of the negative reviews you'll find here:

and here:

I was looking at slide rules and when I didn't buy one he said, You just wasted 45 minutes of my time! Don't hurry back!

(I feel like I've posted this before.)
glatt • Apr 22, 2011 5:58 pm
This one on top was also my grandfather's. It can get into corners to cut rabbets and tenons, but I've never had much luck with it.

The other one is a modern low angle block plane. It's the one I use the most.
Griff • Apr 22, 2011 7:00 pm
Awesome glatt! Pete's cousins hubby collects planes. Pretty cool hobby. He's a professional wood worker so its part of a whole lifestyle thing as well.

Helped my father clear out the attics for the installation of additional insulation. (say that 5 times real fast) The attics have not been breached in decades - literally. Amidst all the crap up there, he kicked me out and forced me to retake possession of my beer can collection from the med- late 70's. I took half of them (thats all we could fit in his Expedition) The other 500+ will be coming over next weekend. Ugghhh...
Will try to take pics, but they are all boxed and I want to sell them. Any takers?
