If that were my bong I would name it Big Bertha.

"Billy Bong Thornton"

(from Half-Baked; Jim Brewer is on Conan right now, and rocking, as usual.)
wolf • Dec 4, 2002 2:23 am
"King Bong"

It seemed obvious to me ... ;)

Although ...

I got a couple of problems with an appliance of such extreme size ...

Changing the water looks to be a SERIOUS bitch. C'mon ... it's bad enough if you have a bong water spill out of a NORMAL size bong, much less this bad boy ...

Also, the draw on the beast must be pretty hard ... how do you know if you're high, or if you're just lightheaded from sucking on the thing??

Sorry if I spoiled anybody's fun ... :blunt:

I'd rather just have a REALLY big beer.

Or perhaps a massive SoCo and Coke?
jaguar • Dec 4, 2002 3:21 am
could be turned into one wicked partybong.

I dunno about that. Look at where the stem enters the water: despite how big the thing is overall, it only dips into the water for a few inches....the pressure differential you need to develop is only equivalant to the weight of the column of water inside that tube when not toking.

I wonder how much it takes to load the bowl on that thing? It looks like you could pack several ounces into it. Wow. That's a hit that neither my lungs nor my wallet could take.
Undertoad • Dec 4, 2002 3:03 pm
No, it looks like the bowl is just out of sight at the top. The bits coming off the sides are other mouthpieces, like a hookah-type deal which you can optionally attach more places for additional "guests". I bet it loads about a finger tip's worth.

This seems like overkill in the same way that some people play old scratchy vinyl LPs on $10,000 turntables.

Ah, you poor children ...

I remember when cocaine and heroin were unattainably expensive and pot was cheap ...

I don't remember a 5 cent loaf of bread, but I do remember a $40 ounce of weed. And good weed too ... no paraquat.

i scroll through this, and all i see is "mwa mwa mwa mwa mwaaa mwa mwaaaa."
theillegitimate • Dec 4, 2002 4:27 pm
I think this post has done a lot of good. We have people reminiscing about the good ole days and people jonesing for some weed. I'll bet some of you can even smell it right now.

Rock on.... I'm gonna go listen to some Pink Floyd.

I remeber a $15 oz, when nobody had ever heard of paraquat.

(knowing that i'm opening myself up to a great deal of hassle here ...)

Ummm, Maggie, did you also have to walk uphill both ways in the snow to visit your dealer??

(*ducks*)

It's gotta hold more than that; look at how much smoke is in there! I bet you hafta hold the carb for like five minutes to fill that thing up!

I agree with wolf; whoever hasta prep that thing prolly passes out from asphyxiation. Although it's then easy going for the next dozen people. :)

*syc has memories of getting higher than a kite*

Ah. :)
Griff • Dec 4, 2002 8:29 pm
Syc, anyway you could work the big bong into the Cellar Quantum Poetry Experiment? Matador
elSicomoro • Dec 4, 2002 8:33 pm
Oooh! That's a great idea Señor Griff!

Except...if people start getting the giggles and become stationary, it could ruin everything. Hmmm...perhaps we could put this at the end of the mosh.

Not at all. This was during my incredibly brief college career....the dealers were very easy to access on campus.

"...and the best thing is it appears on your bursar's bill as 'library fines'..." -Doonesbury, back when it was a strip in theYale campus paper.
headsplice • Dec 5, 2002 2:20 pm
what's a paraquat?
such termino{edit}l{/edit}ogy is unknown round these parts.
elSicomoro • Dec 5, 2002 2:54 pm
A terminoogy? Is that a noogie that kills?

paraquat: highly toxic contact herbicide containing a salt of a cation (Merriam-Webster)

You're in college aren't you headsplice? Or have you smoked too much weed to pull out a dictionary? ;)

(Don't feel bad...I didn't know what it was either.)
MaggieL • Dec 5, 2002 4:25 pm
At one point the "war on drugs" was using chemical weapons in hopes of spoiling crops that they weren't able to kill...and there was a psyops element in convincing the stoners that their weed might be contaminated.

They used Paraquat because Agent Orange already had a bad rep...:-)

Do you like my edit? I think it's much clearer. :D
Actually, steeped in the drug culture as I am, I kind of assumed that a paraquat was some slang that I didn't know. Like enjoying O-town, or being a talking head. Thanks for the info.

I just found this wav that goes with the big bong pic.

:(

I can't get the link to work.
Elspode • Dec 30, 2002 11:18 pm
This must make me older than dirt, then, as I remember $20.00 ounces, and "lids" for $15.00.

Come to think of it, those cheap dope prices make me wonder just how I remember anything from those days at all.

*major jaw drop* Holy Mother of GOD!!! And I thought that the houka (sp??) that a friend of mine had was huge. It had like 8 pipes coming out of the base, and you could drop an ounce in the bowl and keep it lit with coals.

Amazing!
