...and Do Shut Up" - are what?

Northern and Southern respectively.
Beest • Apr 8, 2011 1:46 pm
also 'cake hole', as in 'shut your...' or 'pie hole'

not sure if these classify as Northern or southern, or just local.

I don't know. "Oh DO shut up" in a plummy accent is rather sweet.
I think Queenie says it in Blackadder II.
Then again she spends a lot of time telling people to shut up, often in the same sentence as telling them she will knock their block off.

How do you fix a YouTube clip so it starts at the bit you want to refer to?
I covet that information.

what TV show do I love above all other tv shows?
monster • Apr 8, 2011 3:45 pm
Dora The Explorer? She certainly needs to plug her cakehole
DanaC • Apr 8, 2011 7:25 pm
The difference between 'Oh do shut up' and 'shut your gob' is not North/South.

One is 'Queen's English' and the other is a colloquialism. There are equivalent southern colloquialisms. Queen's English is of course spoken by people on both sides of the Watford Gap.

The Simpsons! (good one, Jim!)

Betty White was hawking for donations to public tv. She said if you enjoyed PBS shows such as "Shut your Gob," and "Do Shut Up," and you didn't contribute, it was like stealing!

The same goes for the Cellar.
monster • Apr 12, 2011 2:20 pm
But aren't posts contributions to the cellar?

Upon reflection I feel that I shouldn't have said that.

Yes. If there are no posts there is no Cellar.

Of course, without money, there might also be no Cellar.
