Elspode health issue

Undertoad • Feb 25, 2011 8:21 pm
from a friend of 'spode's:

"Elspode had a mild heart attack last evening. Today they went in and did a small procedure that from what I can tell was to clean out some blockage. He is recovering well in the ICU, but obviously out of commission for awhile."
ZenGum • Feb 25, 2011 8:27 pm
My thoughts are with you Elspode.
Griff • Feb 25, 2011 8:31 pm

I hope you read this soon, Pat and recover completely from the event. Also, I fully expect to read a long, well written post about what a wake up call this has been, and to get inspired to get back on that treadmill more regularly.

.....think I'll go take a walk.

feel better broseph.

If you don't know an Em, you'll probably meet one eventually.
Elspode • Feb 27, 2011 12:25 pm
Saw my doc this AM. My bypass grafts are good, but some smaller downstream veins are obstructed, probably due to poor diabetes management. Meds have been all switched around, and I'm looking at being back in circulation tomorrow. Thanks for all the good vibes. And, Jim...yes, sitting on my fat ass, drinking too much, getting no exercise and being indifferent about my meds is absolutely what caused this.
capnhowdy • Feb 27, 2011 12:31 pm
Glad you're OK Spode. I've been there. Kinda scary, ain't it?
glatt • Feb 27, 2011 12:59 pm
Well, this isn't the thread I wanted to see when I checked into the Cellar. I'm glad to see you posting so soon though, Splode. Be well, and please take care of yourself.
BigV • Feb 27, 2011 1:26 pm
Welcome back Elspode.

You have been missed. I'll leave the chastisement to others, I'm very grateful you're ok.

Let it be a lesson to us all.

And when I say "us all" I mean "me".
Sundae • Feb 27, 2011 3:40 pm
And me. To myself I mean.
Glad things aren't at bad as they could be Els.
classicman • Feb 27, 2011 3:49 pm
Sorry to hear of this Els - Glad to read you posting already though. Guess you'll have to get "the girls" to give you a lil more help with your exercising. ;)
Best wishes on a speedy recovery!
Gravdigr • Feb 27, 2011 4:47 pm
Good luck, 'Spodey!
Elspode • Feb 28, 2011 12:15 am
Had some rather substantial discomfort today, so I apparently am not quite ripe. More as I know it.
kerosene • Feb 28, 2011 12:26 am
I hope you recover quickly, spode. Prayers with you and your family.
Griff • Feb 28, 2011 6:34 am

Hang in there, dude. Great to see you posting, better still to see pics of you back home recuperating and fighting back.
bbro • Feb 28, 2011 10:22 am
I just came across this thread - not sure how I missed it! Sorry to hear you are going through this, but it is good to see you post. Just take care of yourself and don't do what my father did when he came back from having a stent put in the artery they call the widowmaker - upend a tube of lay's stacks straight into his mouth.

My thoughts are with you and your family. Take care
Sheldonrs • Feb 28, 2011 11:13 am
Good thoughts and HUGS Elspode.
jimhelm • Feb 28, 2011 11:21 am

That's open to debate

I hope you understand this has been a good thing. You're going to be healthier than you've ever been.

Get well again soon and keep swallowing those pills!
Elspode • Mar 2, 2011 12:35 am
Yeah, it is going to be a good thing. I've had my capacity to be in denial removed. The only person killing me is me. Gotta be better to this vessel...and to all the vessels within!
Pico and ME • Mar 2, 2011 3:15 am
Im glad you have been given this second chance Els.
casimendocina • Mar 3, 2011 6:52 am
Sorry it's taken me so long to post (can't post from home and posting from work is difficult). Hope that you're feeling better really, really soon.

I think that's what happened to Charlie Sheen! ;)
ZenGum • Mar 3, 2011 9:49 pm
Yeah and where is a guy going to find 13 Virgins (of suitable age) nowadays, hmm? Especially since they're all being fast-tracked to the afterlife to put out for the martyrs.

I *am* back home...have been since Wednesday afternoon. Been sleeping a lot, and catching up a lot on mundania that has lapsed while in hospital, and on insurance crap, because getting sick without insurance crap cropping up is apparently impossible.

I'm on some rather amazing new medication that was specifically designed for my particular condition (deterioration of small vessels of the heart, causing angina), as well as diabetic meds that are new to me. I am also now off of one diabetic med that is causing increasing concern about it actually damaging the heart.

Bottom line...much, much less booze, much, much less carbs, and a lot more physical activity are the rule of the day. Dropped six pounds in a week, and since I'm eating shrubbery now instead of crackers, I expect to keep that pace up for a while at least. Less tonnage equals happier heart. More activity means developing more and better blood vessels to support the damaged buggers.

I'll try to be more attentive here in the future. Life is busy, and gets busier, but it would be rude for me not to acknowledge my many friends and supporters here who pull for me and mine when the chips are down. Y'all rock!
monster • Mar 5, 2011 11:35 pm
Great to hear from you!
Cloud • Mar 5, 2011 11:45 pm
