Where do you keep your passwords?

I'm not asking for specifics of course (btw, where do you keep the extra cash in your house), but I'm looking for tips for the safest and easiest to way to handle them.

I must have 75 different internet passwords and codes and stuff. Sites are requiring changes to passwords to keep them stronger, they recommend changing them periodically--it's hard to keep track.

Do you just hand write them down? Use passwords software, or what? Do you change them periodically? Do you have a system?

Firefox and Chrome both have good password managers built in. I typically use that. Then for a few specific sites, like my online banking, I tell it to not remember those and I just go from memory. 75 different passwords is nuts! Take the opportunity of having to change them to consolidate maybe?

well, not 75 different passwords, sorry; I mean different accounts and log ins which require them. Many I don't use anymore, and am getting ready to consolidate and change too

I use Microsoft OneNote for keeping track of passwords, site info and a lot of other stuff. I also use it for work research.

You can password-protect individual tabs

I have a text document that lists all the sites I've been to that have passwords, and then a code that indicates to me what the actual password is (most are derivative in some way from a base password; I'm not that creative.) This was extremely helpful last year when one of my email addresses was compromised and I had to change my passwords to everything, since I had a list of exactly where I needed to go.

this is pretty much what I do now. just wondering what other options are out there.

I use an app called 1password. It integrates with Dropbox, so I can have all my passwords on all computers, including iPhone.

It also stores encrypted notes.

Sadly, I only use the password/user name rememberer that comes w/Firefox.

I write them in a book.

My method is pretty geeky but works for me. I use Vim (a vi clone) for text editing anyway. It works well with gpg (the gnu encrypt/decrypt utility).

1Password is $30

Password Gorilla is a free alternative that I like. It's less user friendly but if you don't want to pay $30 it's definitely a good solution.

Dropbox is free up to 2 GB, and you can earn more storage by tweeting and inviting others.

I use only 3 passwords and keep them handy by the power of my mind

2 are made of 8 random characters and I use them nearly everywhere

Last one is for important stuff (job data, bank accounts, etc...) 15 random characters changed once a month.

installed dropbox today, and it completely messed up my Outlook. FAIL!

I don't have Outlook. But I've never had any problems with Dropbox.

The Drop Box idea is interesting. I've never tried it, but I believe you could store your KeepPass database file in DropBox.

I use the same password for everything and change it periodically. I use it as my cellar user title so I don't even need to bother remembering it. I also disguise my bank account and SS# as phone numbers/email addresses in my profile. that way i can access them wherever I am.






srsly, I have a photographic-memory-math-nerd-type-brain. Visiting a site will be enough to remind me what the password is. Sometimes I forget the ones to rarely visited websites etc -especially if they made me change it when I was in a hurry, I just have them send a reminder/reset to my junk mail account.
