Coffee and water. The nuthouse frowns on the Cuervo.
Pete Zicato • Jan 28, 2011 11:55 am
Water. When I get really wild... I have a Mountain Dew. :)
Sundae • Jan 28, 2011 1:37 pm
Diet Fanta (fizzy orange)
De-caff tea
A cup of hot chocolate with chilli

And I was quite happy with that.
Unlike tonight, where I am having cravings and I very nearly convinced myself it would be okay to get drunk as it is the weekend.
I've held out though.
Just had some Caffeine Free Diet Coke.

It is written…
…and they feared The Saturday, for they knew not whence it came and it brought unto them pain and suffering in the form of a great Hangover. And they fell into despair.
But then The Lager appeared to them as a shining beacon of hope and, even as it had cast them into the shadows, now did it lead them out again into the light. And t…he Hangover was defeated. And there was much rejoicing.

Diet Fanta, Caffeine Free Diet Coke, de-caff tea (English style, with milk)

Monday will be my fortnight sober milestone.
Yet to feel any better for it, except a slightly relieved feeling the morning after I managed to get through another night.

Fanta's had a revamp - it is still a sweet fizzy drink, but it does taste less synthetic than it used to. You'd be proud of me anyway - I bought it because six packs were Buy One Get One Free and if I have a fizzy drink in the evening I don't feel as deprived as I do just having water.

Last night I got all the way into the local shop where I used to buy drink before deciding not to buy. My closest shave yet. I wasn't right up to the cabinet, I was still two aisles away. My excuse was that I was going to buy a Lottery ticket (Euromillions £25 million rollover). So I bought it and got out. Didn't regret my decision at all.

still cheaper than booze and it's associated costs, though. ;)
Sundae • Feb 5, 2011 3:27 pm
I've looked it up and it's cheaper than I thought.

And yes - the associated costs far outweigh the actual cost of drinking. For example as well as high blood pressure which I am now worying about, I also have at least six stone to lose before my BMI even gets down to Normal. This is a more important consideration than the fact I can get hold of the maximum units of alcohol for a week for less than £3.

But with 3l of Diet Ginger Ale for £1.20 I have no excuse in that direction either :yum:

There really is a gap in the market for a non-sweet, non-alcoholic drink; even fruit juice is cloying if you're on it all evening. I think that calling something "alcohol free beer" or "alcohol free wine" sets up your taste buds for something they don't get, and it's always going to be a disappointment. Perhaps they should re-market Kaliber (alcohol free beer in UK) with a totally 'nother name, not beer related at all, but as something to swill down the pub when you're the designated driver. Ditto "Eisberg" alcohol free wine. People then might take it for itself - a non-sweet soft drink.
At home, at the moment, "cranberry, raspberry and elderflower tea" is fitting the bill, and I'm vaguely wondering what it is like chilled ...
Sundae • Feb 6, 2011 2:51 pm

We can't get it in cans, but the three litres is a bulk-buy deal, 3 x 1 litre bottles for £1.20, so it should stay fizzy.

Limey - I know what you mean. Every time I find a new adult soft drink they stop selling it in my nearest supermarket...

Tesco Ginger Beer was my wife's favorite. She still pines for it. I think they even have a diet variety.

I had a shit-ton of Diet Dr. Pepper last night. And a dozen break and bake cookies.

I'm addicted to a brand of Italian soda here which has several unconventional and not-particularly-sweet flavors. The biggest one that comes to mind is "Prickly Pear," which is made from the fruit of said cactus. It's a little bitter and yet oddly compelling; the bottle is empty before you realize how much you were liking it.

Two glasses of a shiraz from Australia. Don't remember the brand, but it wasn't particularly good.

I made a couple of pizzas from scratch to have as part of our super bowl party. Before that was cheese and crackers, hummus and toasted pita wedges, and kalamata olives.

A cute name like that will make me avoid a wine, and I even like zinfandels, so I'd probably like it. That's more than I normally pay for a bottle. It would have to be a really special occasion. I'm usually at the $7-8 price point.

I have gone off fizzy water and I can reallty tell in the mornings. My eyes are stuck together and when I pee it is a really dark colour (a sign of dehydration in case you missed that class in school).

Will stop being so naughty today - if I take some into work I'm bound to drink it as the default is still water. And it means I can burp away to myself, which is an added amusement.

She said I’m going out with my girlfriends
Margaritas at the Holiday Inn
Lord have mercy, my only thought
Was Tequila makes her clothes fall off

I told her put an extra layer on
I know what happens when she drinks Patrone
Her closet’s missing half the things she’s bought
Ya Tequila makes her clothes fall off

(Chorus)
She’ll start with kickin’ out of her shoes
Loose an earring in her drink
Leave her jacket in the bathroom stall
Drop a contact down the sink

Them pantyhose aint gonna last too long
If the DJ puts Bon Jovi on
She might come home in a table cloth
Ya tequila makes her clothes fall off

Break

She can handle any champagne brunch
A bridal shower with Bacardi punch
Jello shooters full of Smirnoff
But Tequila makes her clothes fall off

Chorus

She don’t mean nothing - she’s just havin fun
Tomorrow she’ll say oh what have I done
Her friends will joke about the stuff she lost
ya tequila makes her clothes fall off
oh Tequila makes her clothes fall off

It does, and they did!:jig:

It was kind of a cross between a tequila sunrise and a margarita. It had ... bottom to top ... grenadine, tequila, pineapple juice, melon liquor. It came in one of those bathtub sized margarita glasses.

I drove myself, so I only had one of them. I would have enjoyed another.

Dude said "I bought this eighty dollar bottle of Jack Daniel's...two years ago."

I said "Fool. Gimme that."

A little research tells me that eighty dollars is bullshit. eBay has just a neck/hang tag for $10. However, Jack Daniel's partnered with American Forests to produce (I'm told) only 100,000 bottles of Jack Daniel's American Forest. For every bottle sold, American Forests planted one tree.

Each bottle has a serial number you can (still) register at Jack Daniel's website.

Bottled at 90 proof, it tastes and smells like Crown Royal, a little smokier. Very drinkable.

I wonder if you can still get Boone's Farm Tickle Pink? Or what were those wines we drank in HS/college? Steppin' Out, and, and...

OMG I found it! Tj Swan!

Easy Days, Mellow Nights, Steppin' Out, and Magic Moments.

It would be fun to have a class reunion and show up with a case of TJ Swan, and a couple cases of Genny Cream Ale and Little Kings!

Not nearly. (Give the Mogen-David a splash of PGA, though, and you ain't far off. Much better than MD.)

Absolutely. I thought I had a bottle in the back of the fridge, but, no luck. I did have this, though...almost as good:

:yum: <-----(what my younger self would have said)

Yeah, my 19 year old self loved the wine coolers.

Or Zima with a Jolly Rancher in it.

Though that was later. When all the cool kids were doing that I wasn't a kid anymore, and was 'too' cool for that.

Well, I had a fifth of Jack Daniels Honey last night & slept for about 14-16 hours. Best sleep in a long time. I drink it neat. Great taste but does have a bit of after burn if you take a big gulp. Not quite as good as Wild Turkey Honey, but cheaper & easier to find.
orthodoc • Feb 22, 2013 6:45 pm
You're so lucky, Sarge - any alcohol killed my mouth and throat during chemo. If I could drink a fifth of Jack and sleep for 14-16 hours, at this point I'd do it in a second. I'd only sleep for 2 hours and then be awake and wired for 2 days, though.
Big Sarge • Feb 22, 2013 8:20 pm
ortho - I think it is because of the PTSD meds. Combine them with alcohol and you will crash. I know the risks of mixing, but sometimes I need the sleep and I am willing to take the risk

Truthfully, I admire you & Trilby for the way you fought through treatments. I can't/won't do it anymore. Of course mine is only neurosarcadosis and not as life threatening as what you went through. Plus, I have an adenoma on my pituatary gland. I will always have to deal with that because it can really affect my cortisol.
orthodoc • Feb 22, 2013 8:51 pm
It's not 'only' neurosarcoidosis, Sarge. Everybody's experience of chemo is different - every chemo regimen is different. But yes, each of us has to decide what's worth it and what's not. Just be sure you have all the information you need to make a decision.
Big Sarge • Feb 23, 2013 1:27 am
You are right. I just feel like a wuss compared to what Trilby, you, and others have gone through. I'll admit I believe women are much stronger than men in many ways.
Spexxvet • Feb 23, 2013 9:47 am
Last night - Labatt's blue.
orthodoc • Feb 23, 2013 9:52 am
Last night - Big Fire Pinot Gris. Regretting, regretting ...

Smirnoff Black Ice w/touch of lime. Pretty much a wine cooler-esque drink. A tiny bite, and juuuust a hint of lime on the aftertaste.

9 proof. That's right, nine. 4.5% abv.

However, 4 of the big ones will do ya right.

By big ones, I mean, and get this confusion of measurements: The bottles I drank said "1 liter, eight ounces".

WTF? 1 liter, eight ounces?! Letters and numbers, metric and standard, mixed up, living together...The world's gone all cockadoody.

Vicks Niquil. One capful
BigV • Oct 11, 2013 12:57 pm

Gravdigr • Dec 24, 2015 8:43 am
I think I had a little of everything in the bar. And it was all free. Well, most of it.

They had their Employee Xmas Thing last night after closing. I (and a few other regulars) was invited to stay. :jig: The bar was opened, as was the kitchen.

Dude treats his employees pretty well.
monster • Dec 26, 2015 4:41 pm
Waaay too much. But I think I might be about ready to hit the beer again. I'm so bad. :(

I am going to steal that picture for the bike forum. Bunch of inebriated folks talk about rum, scotch, vodka, bourbon, whiskey or beer. Never hear a word about wine. Swell people every one of them.

sexobon • Dec 26, 2016 10:34 am
Understandable. Wine labels can be too complicated, especially for inebriated folks.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 26, 2016 10:59 am
Or buy a barrel of your choice for the evening and stick with it. ;)
classicman • Dec 26, 2016 11:15 am
Since the Christmas Eve eve New Castle Browns till 2:00am, I don't think I've stopped drinking something. Jebus ... I need a break. Gotta run though - headed to another Italian Christmas - you think there might be wine? Ha! Someone call me an Uber now.
alba94 • Jan 17, 2017 1:09 am
