Let's see your tattoos

Bullitt • Jan 23, 2011 2:52 pm
Been awhile since I made a thread, and just got some work done myself, so let's see what you got Cellar!

Pics of mine coming tonight when I can take the bandage off. It's the bear and star from the California state flag.

I like it! I have none to share with you unfortunately... but I'm into angry bear tattoos right now. Sort of a running joke with a friend who's a tattoo-holic.

(She got a lily about a week ago. I was trying to convince her to go with a bear fighting a lily. So much cooler.)
Gravdigr • Jan 25, 2011 6:48 pm
Is her lily near her lily?
Razzmatazz13 • Jan 25, 2011 7:23 pm
Hm... I don't know... that photo on facebook is cropped awfully close...
TheMercenary • Jan 25, 2011 8:57 pm
Great shot Bullit.

I just finished a book about the bio of Kit Carson and there was a whole section devoted to how Calif got the Bear on it's flag. Quite interesting.
Big Sarge • Jan 26, 2011 7:03 am
Time to start posting some of mine.
Shawnee123 • Jan 26, 2011 9:57 am
ze plane ze plane
TheMercenary • Jan 26, 2011 1:28 pm
Sarge. I am digging the second pic. Most of the guys in our unit got their blood type under the arm on the torso since it would most likely be protected by body armor.
Cloud • Jan 26, 2011 1:43 pm
previous thread showing my back tattoo, in case anybody hasn't seen it. Mine is bigger than yours, Bullitt!

http://cellar.org/showpost.php?p=319587&postcount=43

@ BigSarge; very unusual stippling effect on yours--is that part of the design element?
Shawnee123 • Jan 26, 2011 1:56 pm
It's pores, ain't it?
Cloud • Jan 26, 2011 2:01 pm
do you think so? the plain skin doesn't look so pore-y; that's why I wondered. If so, I apologize. Looks cool though!
Undertoad • Jan 26, 2011 2:43 pm
And the red letters are allergies? Because I would totally do that, but I'm allergic to Erythromycin.
Big Sarge • Jan 26, 2011 3:24 pm
Thanks Merc. A lot of our guys had meat tags tattooed on their torso. Some of the really neat ones look like an enlarged id (dog) tag. UT - The red ones are my allergies.

I've got more pics of other tatts to post
TheMercenary • Jan 26, 2011 3:26 pm
Post em. Love to see them.
drfroth • Jan 27, 2011 4:16 pm
Got a new one just last Saturday. It was cool because we were playing a show at a club called BFE and a friend of the band who is a tattoo artist by trade drove to Houston from Austin to see the concert.

He brought his stuff...so I got one at the bar before we performed. How cool.

Here is me getting the new one:

And here is the finished tat:

Sweet.
Cloud • Jan 27, 2011 6:05 pm
wow, I'm sorry dr.froth, but as cool as your tattoo may be, imo it's very uncool, unprofessional and unsanitary to get a tattoo at a bar. Tattoo conventions are bad enough, but at a bar? I guess it's your skin and your risk to take, but I would hate to encourage or support such practices.
drfroth • Jan 27, 2011 6:14 pm
Yeah..normally I would not do that sort of thing...but hey...it does not get any more "metal" than that.

We did, for the record, hevaily sanitize the area and Terry brought his entire kit down to do the work. (new needles, clenser, disinfectant, etc, etc). We placed trash bags (new) down over the tables after we cleaned up and of course being a small tattoo the whole thing was over really fast.

While not conventional...it was cool and makes a great story.

If I suffer some sort of horrid infection I will post the pics in the WTF NSFW thread...lol.
Cloud • Jan 27, 2011 6:55 pm
good enough--you've relieved my mind! I've sort of been involved in consumer advocacy re: the body modification industry for a while, and this pushed my buttons a bit.
Bullitt • Jan 27, 2011 11:15 pm
Cool stuff so far. I've seen military guys wearing patches or duct tape with blood type on their gear, never tattoos before. Good spot since that's typical IV site.

Keep them coming!

Picture's a bit wonky, but this tattoo is my only one so far. It's on my left foot. It is the stars that are in the corner of each page in the American editions of the Harry Potter series. I got it July 31st, 2011 -- Harry Potter's birthday. (How's that for nerdy?) I got it to remind myself of my two favorite quotes from the series, and to celebrate the role the books played in my relationship with my brother. I taught him to read by reading him the first five books aloud when he was a kid. He got the same tattoo on his shoulder the following summer.
BigV • Jan 15, 2013 3:39 pm
Thanks for reviving this thread Chocolatl; clearly I was wrong when I advised TomJonze about the tattoo pic thread.

Your tat and your story are cool.

It's quite unfair of you to bring this up without telling us the quotes.

that's a hell of an upgrade TomJonze! and what a great job you did with the composite picture. I can still see the remnants of the original black swirl now lime green. that's a good looking tattoo!
Sundae • Jan 16, 2013 3:38 am
I'm sure I had a pic of my tattoo somewhere on here, but I haven't been able to find it using search.

It's a strawberry. My friends at school called me Cherry Berry, and I've always felt connected to anything berrylicious (like Sundaes!)

It's on my lower back. What Infi calls a tramp stamp. But when I got it, I wanted it somewhere that people would not see it unless I chose to show it. Low rider jeans were still in the future then. And in truth I've never worn them, having too much belly fat to make them look anything but grim. Ditto a bikini. I think my last one was when I was about seven.

I'm sure I've told this before, but I wanted a tattoo from the age of 18. My bf at the time told me to wait a year - if I still wanted one then, at least I knew I was committed for life. I did still want one then - and we're talking 1991. The only female I knew with a tattoo was a millionaire's daughter. I was well jeal.

I still love it. I'm still so happy I had it. I'm the reason Mum had hers. It's on her bum so no-one except Dad ever sees it. It has his name on it... When she retired from the Police her leaving present was vouchers for the parlour close to the Police Station because she'd talked about getting one for all the years I'd had mine. Bless.
Trilby • Jan 16, 2013 9:08 am
Now I want a strawberry! We are, after all, 2/3 of the Strawberry Festival Queens.
Sundae • Jan 16, 2013 11:58 am
You really should! I'm not sure about Infi (getting one I mean, not whether she's a Strawberry Festival Queen because she still is - it's a lifetime commitment.)

Make plans.
We'll start a fund.
Getting to meet eachother is damned expensive. Getting a tattoo for you is more approachable.

Please note the discolouration in skin tone is not due to liver damage (for once!) it's just a result of the light/ flash.

i didnt do the composite. the artist, sarah grossman in san jose, did. she's pretty rad at that stuff. i have a similar theme she will soon be inking to the other arm as i'm a huge fan of simmetry. instead of chick/wolf/harvest moon its going to be dude/hawk(or falcon or eagle)/sun theme.

thanks for the compliment. she's a great friend and a hell of an artist. rather new at tattooing too. she's only been doing it for 3 or 4 years.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 23, 2013 3:26 am
She was obviously an accomplished artist before she started inking. Outstanding job. :thumb:

Not a new concept.

The SS blood group tattoo was applied, in theory, to all Waffen-SS members, except members of the British Free Corps. It was a small black ink tattoo located on the underside of the left arm, usually near the armpit.

Putting the tattoo on the underside of the upper arm protected it from damage. In theory, you would only lose the tattoo if you lost your entire left arm.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 27, 2013 10:00 pm
The Russian Army has a different view.

The guidelines, which cover all aspects of military life, are quoted as saying that tattoos may indicate a "low cultural and educational level" and "possible sexual deviations".

A young man who allows himself to be tattooed may be inclined to "submit to the will of others", they warn.
No wonder they lost the Cold War.

Resurrecting this old thread because, you guessed it, I just got my firstie :) I don't have a picture quite yet (hoping the artist will post on FB so I can steal it) ;)
jimhelm • May 17, 2013 10:40 pm
Well, what did you get?

Wait. We should try to guess.

Did you get Woodstock?
infinite monkey • May 17, 2013 11:40 pm
.
jimhelm • May 18, 2013 12:16 am
Ok, not Woodstock.

Something winged though... The swan song angel?
bbro • May 18, 2013 12:50 am
No - not woodstock - lol

Got a pic! The flash is kind of blocking out one of the stars, but still pretty good shot. Very new, so there is still some red spots where there aren't gonna be any
jimhelm • May 18, 2013 1:12 am
Neat.

what's it about?
bbro • May 18, 2013 1:19 am
Thanks :)

It was morphed into something artistic, but the main idea is that the blue is the symbol of my zodiac sun sign (Aquarius) and the constellation is my moon sign (cancer). The really cool thing is that aqua blue is a color of Aquarius and he already wanted to add it there.

It was originally going to be a sky type theme. Night sky on the left with the constellation and the symbol where it is and rays on the right. Originally he said he would do rays all around to make it more balanced. Then, when I went in, he got rid of the night sky completely, but not the moon. I still loved it. Plus, it was smaller which was more feasible for a first time.

Honestly, really glad I put the trust in the artist :D
Lamplighter • May 18, 2013 9:06 am
Very nice design and great colors
bbro • May 18, 2013 10:23 am
Thanks! This is actually the pic that the artist took after it was done - less blood in his :)
Sundae • May 18, 2013 10:56 am
Where is it bro?

Slight comedy aside from my appointment the other week. I was asked many questions regarding my health including the ubiquitous questions re drug use and whether I have shared a needle. No.

Then asked if I have ever had a tattoo.
Yes
Where did you have it?
On my back.

No, he wanted to check it was in a registered tattoo parlour :)
bbro • May 18, 2013 11:52 am
Sundae - It is on my back - between my shoulder blades.
Undertoad • May 27, 2013 10:30 pm
That is amazing. Well done. Such bright colors, and then blending, and then the wild detail of lines drawn without ink. I've never seen anything like it!
monster • May 27, 2013 11:32 pm
Very unBritish and uncouth questin: How much did it cost? I think it's amazing how far tattoo technology has come in a generation.
bbro • Jun 3, 2013 8:27 pm
Thanks UT! I love it. I sent the pictures to my mom and she said that she no longer has to hunt down my artist and yell at him - lol.

Monster - it cost 300. I also added 80 as a tip
monster • Jun 3, 2013 10:48 pm
less than I imagined! how long did it take?
bbro • Jun 5, 2013 8:58 am
It was about 3 hours. Keep in mind, I went to a friend. I may have gotten the friends and family discount.

Then again, he is really good at what he does :)
