You, RFN, 2011....

Griff • Jan 18, 2011 8:22 am
Assuming this hasn't been done for the new year...

Pete and I went to Garnet Hill Lodge for our 20th wedding anniversary. We skied at Yellowstone for our honeymoon, so this appealed to us at this milestone. They have a lot of groomed trails, but we tended toward the back country stuff. Good skiing but it was a little thin on base in the back country since they hadn't much snow until recently. The groomed trails were in great shape.
footfootfoot • Jan 18, 2011 9:03 am
Wow! Happy Anniversary. You both look great, and you, Griff, look especially lucky.

The mm is sitting on my lap and she asked me if the photo of you was me. Then she asked me if you were the husband of "that girl." When I told her yes she asked "Why did that girl travel so far in the snow to find a husband?"

Indeed. I expect it would have been the other way around.
Griff • Jan 18, 2011 9:08 am
Brilliant, mm has keen observation skills. :)

Knowledge of my good fortune does keep me on the straight and narrow.
Shawnee123 • Jan 18, 2011 9:12 am
Congrats Griff and Pete! :)

Lovely smiley happy faces. That's what I like to see on a nasty rainy Tuesday morning :D

Congratulations!
footfootfoot • Jan 18, 2011 9:17 am
Now she wants to know why her name is Pete.
Griff • Jan 18, 2011 9:24 am
That was her college nickname derived from her maiden name, the most common in Sweden.
footfootfoot • Jan 18, 2011 9:31 am
Now I have to explain college, nicknames, and maiden names to a three year old? I'll just tell her that's what her parents called her.
Griff • Jan 18, 2011 9:38 am
Do it. You've got quite a sharpie there.

Wimp.

Just stick to the nickname story. She'll understand that. I bet you have all sorts of nicknames for her already. Don't you sometimes call her peanut, princess, little bit, or some such?
monster • Jan 18, 2011 10:39 am
No wonder our kids hate me. I call them Herbert Gerbil, Spunky Chuckwagon and ThOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!
Griff • Jan 18, 2011 11:16 am
Thor is a pretty sweet nick, the others not so much.
footfootfoot • Jan 18, 2011 1:21 pm
I explained it and she figured out the nick name thing pretty quickly, identifying her own and everyone else's.

She still couldn't figure out the snow angle and how that related to getting married, and why Pete's maiden name was Pete...

Did you catch my post where I say I live with my mom who's conservative and old-fashioned? I may be 40 yrs. old but I won't be able to get away with a radical hair color. :p: A while back I highlighted my hair red. You can see the brightness of the red on my black hair even indoor. I'm keeping everything crossed that we have "wear something red" for Comic Relief in March. The school is already selling the Red Noses so I assume we'll be doing something. I'll definitely wear a red wig if we do. Yay, bright hair again!

Current hair following haircut/ recolour on Thursday - you can see my fat cat in the background. Actually looking fatter than he is because he's squished out over the sofabed arm.

That was the most appropriately inappropriate request for posting I've ever had the honor to squeeze...um...read.

I haven't been gone at all...I check in almost every day. I try to keep track of all of you as best I can. However, if there's one thing I've learned in my years at Teh Cellah, it's that it doesn't pay to just interject things that you haven't spent time and effort formulating. It would be a disservice to the peeps I love and admire.

I post when I have something to share (like The Dominator - the wimpiest of the two "drive into a fucking tornado" vehicles from "Storm Chasers"). I haven't been writing much - probably because I have become consumed by the stream of consciousness world of FB - so, again, I don't post much.

Griff, it was at, of all places, the Flower and Garden show last weekend here in KC. Reed Timmer (the whiny guy from Storm Chasers) gave a presentation. Basically, it was a promofest for a program I've watched religiously since it came on Discovery. The nearness to him, nor what he said, did not change my opinion that the biggest problems with Storm Chasers, for me, are Reed Timmer and Sean Casey. :)

Ali - miss you too! I keep tabs on you via FB, even though I don't say much to you. Sounds like you're living the dream, and bonus points for not having drowned.

Thanks for all the check-ins, y'all. I'm here. Bruce is, too, but he's got a life. I stay reasonably close in touch with him. He's okay. If you miss him, let him know. ;)

Actually, it's the flexibility that helps with the figure-skating. I've always been super-bendy -I can still do the splits without warm up (Front to back) and get both legs behind my head :D Being of larger proportions, my flexibility surprises people -I've won many a pint that way ;)

Glatt, ya oughta try it when the berthing is full of other guys all trying to get up, dressed, shave and get to the head all at the same time each morning.

Slapt in one of those for years and you're right, the bunks are seemingly designed for the same adult model that is used for car backseats.
glatt • Mar 15, 2011 9:56 am
In the news lately was some story about two sailors who fell asleep watching tv in the same bunk. They got in serious trouble. I don't know how it would be possible for two adults to fit in the same bunk, let alone two adults and one tv.

And how do diseases not run right through an entire berthing? There were 18 people sleeping within about a meter of me that night. If one guy has a cold, how does it not spread to everyone?

I would really have a hard time being in the Navy.

How does the first guy get a cold, out in the middle of the ocean?
BrianR • Mar 20, 2011 11:40 am
To answer Glatt's question, two guys can fall asleep in the same bunk, either stacked on top of one another REALLY closely, or, much more likely, sitting sideways on a top bunk. I think that story happened at a school though, where you get to sleep on a more normal-sized bed.

Colds and other contagious bugs are a different matter. One undiagnosed case of cold or flu can take out the entire berthing, which is why most sailors will head to sick call at the first sign that something is wrong. They then are checked out by the corpsman and if they are contagious, they are sequestered for the protection of everybody. Vermin are another problem. Should someone bring in lice or fleas or anything like that inadvertently, everyone in that compartment gets their belongings laundered in smelly soap and they get "dipped". The unfortunate sailor usually gets pummelled that night, too.

Living that closely can be problematic at times.

We're all carrying the virus and it is dormant until our immune system gets overwhelmed by it. I think the mechanism of "catching" a cold is under some debate, but I suspect the carrier has built up a huge population of virus and every drop of snot has billions more viruses than usual so maybe enough to tip the scales in favor of the virus.

BrianR;717638 wrote:

All very interesting. It's one thing to read about being that close. Spending one night like that was an eye opener. I'm still impressed and amazed that sailors do it routinely.

When my arm is out of the sling and I can type a little easier I'll start writing about it. Maybe start a blog. It's complicated because some of the other players would be instantly identifiable by their CVs even w/o their names. I'd have to change a lot of things around. Not to mention the unique and distinctive name of the boat.

MTP you can be my agent for a typical book agent's fee.

It's me. She is 3 yoa and was sittng in the chair with me. She used the webcam on my laptop and even added the pinwheel herself. She thought it was funny to put it on my face. She uses computers at pre-school & I'm quite surprised by how much she knows.
Addie is my youngest daughter. Some of you might remember the anguish I went through when I went a year & a half without seeing her. We're still bonding & trying to get her to comprehend my role in her life. She calls her stepfather "daddy" and I'm called "big-daddy". Big Sarge to Big Daddy. LOL
Sundae • Apr 3, 2011 1:42 pm
Addie stands for...?
Big Sarge • Apr 3, 2011 6:08 pm
Her name is Emma Adeline. Emma is for her maternal grandmother. Adeline was my great grandmother's name and she was called Addie. My family is very big on traditional names. The oldest male of each generation is named "Louis" (usually as a middle name as my son & I are). A tradition that began when our ancestors were german mercanaries for Napolean and were exiled. My oldest daughter is Elizabeth Christine, both names date back to our part of the family from Bavaria.

The only one not in the tradition is my "adoptive" daughter. Even though she Native American, she has a very traditional Irish name which fits in great with my mother's side of the family. I know, too much info but I'm so proud of my kids

From a health issue. That was just before I nearly died from a thyroid storm. I was losing weight like crazy, yet it didn't feel like a Crohn's flare up.

The doctor took an EKG and said that I am lucky to be alive, then scheduled a cardiac ultrasound. It's never good when a doctor says things like that.

Thankfully, there is nothing wrong with my ticker other than a small murmur which I have had all my life.

The thyroid is coming under control now, thanks to a new doctor (a specialist) and different meds. That, and I'm getting looked at again for the first time in a year. I have gained back all the lost weight, plus some that I didn't lose. I wish this weight would steady out at 180 lbs and stay there!

Sigh

Oh well, I'm okay and that's the important thing.

Thanks, everyone. I wasn't sure if it suits me or not. My sister said I now need new clothes to fit with my hair, and someone else said I can no longer be wearing lounge clothes with this hair. :p: And a number of people said I look older. :yelsick: Oh well...might as well look my age. :p: Hehe....Now, for that salt shaker. I'm not sure what you're looking at. Those things on a small shelf on the right, under the pictures is part of my flashlight collection and some lighters. Yeah, it's my desk at home. Looking at my mess, you wouldn't know how anal I am. :right: I take my work home and sometimes sit there to work too. It's my work station at home. :D

Btw, Pico, do point out what you're talking about. I am curious to what is it that looks like a salt shaker.
casimendocina • Apr 16, 2011 1:15 pm
Great haircut Tulip. Why buy new clothes unless you particularly feel like it or are going for a complete image change?
casimendocina • Apr 16, 2011 1:18 pm
One thing that really annoys me is when every single photo that people take on holiday is in front of some landmark or scenery. Either it's a people shot or a scenery shot. It shouldn't be both as people in the scenery shots ruins the scenery and when it's every single photo, quite frankly it's boring...and how likely is that you're going to need to prove that you were actually there by producing photographic evidence.
skysidhe • Apr 16, 2011 1:21 pm
I never thought about it casi, but now that you mention it. You are right!

So that's what niggles at the back of my brain when I see boring vacation shots with the person's head blocking out Mnt. Rushmore. (or whatever)

You can buy/ download much better pics of landmarks than you can ever take. Why not have a pic of someone you love in front of it, so you can treasure that for years to come? The monument will not change. Your lover will.

I learned a lot, being a solo traveller. Photos of famous landscapes have already been done. It's the intimate that speaks to people and evokes memories. Hence my pictures of... me... and food... and me and food...

I'm on a couple of films that I wonder about... I asked a Japanese man to take a photo of my (then) husband and I in Trafalger Square. His price was to have a photo with me. And he really squeezed me close! I was quite small in those days, and had striped hair. He might have thought I was a Spice Girl.

And again in Egypt - a whole pack of schoolboys asked the Evil Ex if they could have pictures with me. He agreed, probably without realising every single one of them would want a separate photo. Once he did, he just found it really funny. I was goosed more than once.
Griff • Apr 17, 2011 11:03 am
Absolutely right Sundae. The photos are taken to spark a memory later, not for some imaginary art show.
Pico and ME • Apr 17, 2011 11:28 am
Damn Tulip, that close-up looks nothing like what I see in the other picture. It must the way the light is reflecting on it, but to me it looked like a smooth pearly white porcelain cylindrical shape with a design of blueish something-or-other in the middle and a band of blue on the very top and very bottom.

lol

Can definitely see what you're saying, but I'm talking more about when someone shows you their holiday snaps and everyone single one is a photo of them in the same pose with the same forced smile in front of a different landmark.

Occasionally, not often, I've surprised myself with an amazing photo of some scenery which had I put myself or someone else in it, wouldn't have been nearly as good.

Having said that, another reason is that I generally, don't like photos of myself (which is one reason I have never posted any of myself on this forum).

Any speaking of being in photos that you're not sure about, I was walking through one of the squares today (there aren't many here) and I saw someone point a camera, probably purely because I'm a Caucasian) and was very glad I had my sunglasses on.

Uh...how skinny teeny you're talking about? There's a thin, long blue one right there on the left. It's a size of a pen. There are short ones sitting there that are hella bright. Umm...there's one I really like but didn't buy. Let me borrow from my brother and show it to you. It's skinny and teeny tiny and bright! Pretty too. :D Btw, do you want bright? If all you want is an okay bright, then there's that blue one sitting there. Wait, are you being sarcastic?

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure lots of us don't post pix of ourselves because we like the way we look. We post our pix to share ourselves and our lives with others in this forum. It makes a person more real than just words where a person would have to visualize. Of course, if you post alot of opinions and comments, others get to know your inner self. The inner and outer self completes the picture. :)

My Blazer blew a radiator hose off one time, and I happened to be right by a little stream. I had a bukkit, so I pulled in, replaced my heater hose, and climbed a little fence went to the stream & got my water. On the second trip, I looked over to my left, and there stands the biggest red angus bull I ever saw. Must've literally weighed a ton (prolly more). About thirty feet from where I had climbed the fence, was one of those tube gates you see on farms and such. On the gate was a laminated sign:

"Warning: Do Not Enter. Bad, bad bull."

I didn't push my luck.

I was so pissed off. I went out to cut a bunch of over due branches from the base of our Old Growth Oak, a Cedar, very common symbiotic tree... And here I was cutting away with a chain saw, yes in fucking shorts and sanddels. Suddenly I had an intuitive thought, "Ya know I bet the snake are coming out. I should be careful." I looked down and the SOB was like 10 inches from my right calf. Freaking 16 rattles. Just ate a freaking tree rat so I guess he was not interested in a 5' 3" big fat 120 pound fat guy. Eh, went in the house ranting at the wife.... I was more pissed off than scared, shot the shit out of him... skinned him and tacking that skin on my wall. If anyone is interested in the total picture gallery drop me a pm.

plthijinx • Apr 29, 2011 9:55 pm
lol merc! i know what it's like. been around snakes in the country most of my life. 5343 acres in south texas and later on 107 in central texas. only on my old farm i only saw one western diamond back. mostly there were copperheads and water moccasins. but quail and dove hunting down in south texas required eyes in the sky and on the ground. many a time stumbled across the snakes in the brush. they'd rattle and i'd roll on outta there.
TheMercenary • Apr 29, 2011 11:21 pm
I have a big ole copperhead that lives in my wood pile. I leave him alone, he leaves me alone. Rattlers will bite my dogs because they make noise and give them a reason to investigate. My cattle dog got bit by a big ole rattlesnake last year. We freaked. But after talking to some other owners of Aussie Cattle Dogs they seem to be very resilient to snake bites, even if it does put them under the weather for a week or so. Sure would have saved me a bunch of money if I would have know that at the time since he was bitten on a Sunday. Emergency Vet bills are expensive.
plthijinx • Apr 29, 2011 11:39 pm

I did have some coldsore lotion yesterday, but I lost it.
I have a sneaking suspicion Diz has spirited it away - it's the sort of dinky size he loves to play with.

What bugs me most is that all four came up, at once, overnight.
It's not like I cross-infected myself.

My extensive experience is that once they have blistered you're pretty much done anyway, it will run its course regardless. Next thing I have to look forward to is the next three scabbing. And then the fun as I smile, or sing, or open my mouth to eat, and all the scabs crack and bleed! Hurray!

Oh and re the photo. My top lip looks a little odd, but that is my slightly dry top lip, normal size, including the little gap. My bottom lip is usually of a similar size and is just monstrously enlarged by the herpes simplex, three in blister mode and one already scabby.

Should this be in NSFW?!

This is a bit more expensive but a real eye feast. Take a look in case you may like it. It's only 45mm long. Comes in several metal with its different prices. I have the original design, so it's not as nice as these. I didn't think to mention this one before because I thought it might be expensive. But it could be affordable, depending on your definition of affordable. :p: The metal in the picture is titanium. If you do decide to buy this one, you may consider buying an extra battery in case your current one runs out of battery, so you'd have one to use while charging the other one. :)

thankee. it's more blue than purple now because the purple encroaches on the blue (and red) as I redye. When it's ready for a rebleach, it looks more purple all over....
Tulip • May 3, 2011 12:05 am

monster • May 3, 2011 12:30 am
Tulip, it's red, then purple, then blue. In a target sort of pattern. But i always under-do the purple on the first dye after a bleach, because that ends up dominant.

i once worked in the same building (different eng. companies) with a crazy cajun that actually wanted to fuck a chicken. i had just told a joke about that to the smoke break group and he got all excited and quipped "DATS WHAT I WANNA DO!! DATS WHAT I WANNA DO!" i was like, seriously??!? whoa. just whoa.

i've eaten turducken before and it's really, really good. i just never have cooked one.

I don't know what the difference between perverted and kinky is...but the difference between erotic and kinky is:

In erotic, you use the feather.
In kinky, you use the whole chicken.
I guess, in perverted, you use the feather on the chicken?

Kinky is using the whole chicken.

Wow, long time no update!
Here is me with my new hair cut and colours.

I knew I would get a graduated effect because of the differing lengths of my hair, I didn't realise they would be quite so bright though.
I like it, but may go blonder in order to be pink for the summer.

And no, I'm not sunburned - although I have tanned more this year than any other, being outside for 30 mins at lunchtime every day.
It's just that it's 27 degrees in here and I am VERY hot. Note lack of even a scraping of make-up.

Have decided to create a thread, so people can enjoy or not, showing an English seaside town.
I've no idea if Amercican seaside towns are anything like - Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland have different flavours, as indeed do beaches North and South of England.

So I will snapshot what I know, in a resort my family have been going to for the best part of a century (Dad's Dad went to Great Yarmouth as a child). Expect some pictures of weather only I would wear a strappy top in :)

Coming soon to a thread near you.

FTR none of my teeth are grey or black.
Some trick of the camera and/ or flash is making the ones on my right hand side look so.

My teeth are an ivory colour and have been since my adult teeth grew through; supposedly the strongest colour. Which is proved such by the fact I am in my 40th year having had no teeth out, no fillings, no toothache, nuffink. I'd like them white but I'd rather have them healthy.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting throught the wind
Wanting to start again

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards
One blow from caving in

Do you ever feel already buried deep
Six feet under scream
But no one seems to hear a thing

Do you know that there's still a chance for you
Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road

Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gunna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em goin "Oh, oh, oh!"

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom

But those days are over. My old self can't do that kind of stuff and live anymore.

Oh, and here's how you order tequila: Bartender? May I have a double shot of Cuervo? No wheels."

a chaser is somethign you drink after hard liquor, like beer or soda or water or seltzer.

You'd ask for "Whiskey with a beer chaser" or "whiskey with a beer back"

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

I had one of those once. Once. it was called a "Red Hot" on the bar menu on a cruise. the recipe called for equal parts tabasco and booze. The bartender said I'll take it easy on you and just pepper up the booze. I objected! No way man, I want it just like it says there! (what. an. idiot.) So, he did. And I drained about half of it in the first hit. Gaaaagghhh. ugh, so fucking nasty. my body was taking care of itself healing shut my esophagus despite my brain's attempted murder. So, I asked for a few icecubes in the remaining portion of poison. this was my next bad idea, it doesn't make it cooler, or weaker or easier, it just makes it MORE. I was not able to finish it and my mealtime was ruined as a result. Not even buzzed, just sick from drinking half a bottle of fucking tabasco sauce. what a marroooooon.

Sarge, shine is illegal there? Usually the state just restricts it, like making your own beer, wine or mead.

I believe the rule here is five gallons per year, per person for personal consumption only, no selling it. Or was that Tennessee?

That night that was exactly what I was doing. I use to be more of a rum drinker, but I figured out that if I was going to drink hard alcohol, I should drink something that doesn't taste so good, so I don't drink as much. It works, actually.

Me and my Peach Melba hair.
Taken earlier today, but have been uploading photos to the Aylesbury thread.

The odd dusty quality comes from some spray-on pink dye that I used today, so the boys (pupils, not conquests) could see what it looked like pink. I'm thinking of re-dying to copper or brown by the time we start back at school on Wednesday. See what the Headmaster says on our training day on Monday!

Pics of me today from the "pumpkin patch". Everyone meet Abby age 8. It was father/daughter day at the pumpkin patch and she didn't have a dad to go with, so I voluntered. Her mother is one of my dispatchers. Anyway, we had our faces painted and she wanted everyone to know I was her "dad", thus her name was painted on my face. We did the hayride, went through the maze, and even picked pumpkins. I think I had a bigger time than she did. LOL

You see, you do draw the ladies to you!

I know how wonderful it feels when a child asks for your company.
Good for you for reciprocating and making her day.

Cute pic Nirvana.
How old is the friend's grand-daughter?
She looks young to be at a show! (not a judgement, I just know that some of our 4 year olds have struggled getting through the Harvest Festival rehearsals :))

Thanks JH

Sundae she is 2 1/2 and her GM had a weekend of running after her for sure ;) She came all the way from Texas to Chicago with her granddaughter. [driving]
Sundae • Oct 11, 2011 12:02 pm
Bless.
I am a big advocate of taking young children out with you, as long as you are also teaching them social skills.

My niece & nephew didn't eat out in a real restaurant as children, only kids' restaurants.
Consequently they don't know how to behave in them.

Okay, they are too old to run around and yell, but they don't know how to catch the eye of waiting staff*, order for themselves or stay off their text messages for more than 20 seconds, even while eating.

*I'm not talking Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons, I mean in places like Pizza Express or the local Indian. I was working in Deep Pan Pizza at 14! By 19 I was a silver service waitress.

At 17 I was young, conceited, self centred, mouthy - but I could eat out with people older than me and not be a pain in the arse. Oh, apart from being conceited, mouthy etc..

Hope the GD had a great time.
And GM wasn't too exhausted!

Sarge those are really sweet.
All the shops round here had sold out of pumpkins by the time I was ready to buy.

So I ended up with a pink grapefruit instead, which I cut and scored slits into, so it was more arty than spooky. But then I did have skellingtons on the bushes and an extremely graphic severed head as decorations too.

Might have to take them in now - we had a good selection of trick or treaters but it's getting kinda late for the real thing as opposed to teenage chancers.

Will try to get a pic of my grapefruit...

I'm so glad my son is in Cub Scouts. I get to do the coolest stuff.

This was me RF yesterday, on the biggest ropes course in North America. There was a traffic jam at this particular point, so I had time to fish the cell phone out of my pocket and snap a picture. Zip lines are a blast!
Lola Bunny • Nov 7, 2011 10:11 am

HungLikeJesus • Nov 7, 2011 10:32 am
We should build one here in the Cellar.
glatt • Nov 7, 2011 10:44 am
They have this really ingenious system. You have two special carabiners that "talk" to one another. When one is locked, the other is open. And you can lock the open one, which will then unlock the one that had been locked. The way you lock an open one is to clip it onto the next cable, and there is a special "key" on that cable that you press into a socket in the unlocked carabiner. It locks, the other one unlocks, and then you can remove the other one from the last cable and attach it to the new cable.

Basically, once you clip into a particular course, you can't unclip yourself until you reach the end, where there is a key that's attached to nothing. You can't defeat the system. It's idiot proof. (Although I suppose you could climb out of your harness, but it takes a couple minutes to get even that off once you get back on the ground.)

I thought there would be instructors all along the way, but you are on your own. If you get into trouble, you just yell for help, and one of the staff walking around on the ground will put up an extension ladder to come get you and unlock you with one of their master keys. Out of about 40 "bridges" or zip lines I did on 4 different courses, I was only momentarily terrified 2 times. The rest were fun, and the 2 times I was terrified, I felt really good once I got past those obstacles.

Me and SonofV posing in front of a lovely little waterfall. Can any of you find the impeding surprise in this picture?

A little break in the trail where we could see across the valley. A lovely day for a hike!

The trail twisted through some boulders here. I asked SonofV to turn around, please, and let me get a shot of his face (I'd seen enough of his back all the way up). He obliged, happily.

We stopped for lunch on this bench. SonofV was tramping around and postholed through the soft deep snow. He got, we all got a laugh from this, so he just packed himself in for lunch. He's up to his *ahem* and solidly so. He stood up for lunch. But his butt was also resting on the snow. Weird. Funny, but weird.

Photos taken for me by my Dad in the last 20 minutes or so, so they qualify.
Wow, what did I get?!

A wonderful prize that means I can sleep safely in Sarge's arms any time I feel like it.
I could wear it out of course, but it would involve some odd conversations ;)
My family have all got to see it already though, and love it too.

I'm not showing my face, as I'm full of a horrible cold and have a bright red hooter and needs-to-be-cut hair.
The second photo makes me look like a hunchback/ quarterback, but I was bowing over slightly so that the printing was clear.

The girls will get the see the real thing in Glasgow in a fortnight (so soon)!
Of course it's travelling with me - I need protection then more than any time!

Massive thanks to Maury who really made me smile with this one.
I will take proper photos at some point.

Another difference in the language. In the US hooters are plural (almost always). Can't tell how red they are, but they are pleasantly displaying "dog tags jingle".

They're blue!
But having checked the pic they do look green. Cool! I'll keep that photo then *

I always come back round to red. It's been my default colour for a long time because I have the colouring of a redhead, so it suits me well.

Sometimes I feel like a bit more drama though.
And blue/black is definitely up there in those terms.

Nice Sarge! I have one of those (a little longer tho) and had to live in it for months until I bought my 500 sq ft house.

Let me know if you need any tips on RV living!

I'll give ya one for free right now, buy nothing from an RV dealer that you can't get at a hardware store. You'll find that most parts have hardware store equivalents that save you a lot of cash.

My funny RV story:

My first night in mine, I learned that some RV parks have higher water pressure than others and you should have a pressure-reducer installed. I didn't know this. What I did know was that I woke up at four am wondering if I had left a faucet on since I could hear water running. I got out of bed and stepped into a half inch of water on the deck. Turns out that the kitchen sink hot water valve had broken and blown off and I now had a nice fountain going. The gray water tank had filled up and water was flooding the whole place and was running out from doors and any other opening it could find. I ran outside in my skivvies, turned off the water and then got decent so I could do something about the water. I altered the leveling jacks so that the water all ran out of one place and left it that way for a week while the camper drained and dried out.

Lesson learned. $7 pressure reducer saves a lot of headache.

I know you don't have the issue since you are boondocking (not hooked to shore services) but still.

And what f3 said....some custom paint would really spruce it up!
