How was it for you?

2010, that is?

Achievements, disasters, notable moments of fun, BDM, significant learnings....

I became a fully-fledged hockey mom this year, to the point where I can make the calls before the ref while discussing the game so far and calculating both goalies' save percents. I understand and get -and enjoy- hockey more than any other sport in my life. I've been a swim mom to this level for a while, but it's not a very exciting sport to watch at kid level unless it is your kid swimming at that moment.

No Births, Deaths or Marriages in our family in 2010.

No horrible disasters occurred.

It was a pretty good -in uneventful- year for us -tougher than we had hoped for financially speaking, but we were all generally happy, healthy and safe all year.

How about you?

Great. Glad it is fucking over. One year closer to death.

I think my health/fitness improved enough that I may be one year further away. to each their own, and for every negative a positive :) or is that two postives? :D

i'm glad 2010 is over. looking forward to this year. hopefully i can get back into enjuneerun and make a decent paycheck again. overall though i have a different outlook. i'm happy. you guys have lifted my spirits in ways that i cannot describe. thanks again! (know i've thanked y'all someplace else but hey! :D)

It sucked. Sucked a little less than 2009, but not by much. But if 2011 can suck just slightly less yet again, at least that's a trend I can be happy with. I'm trying to be more optimistic though (not a resolution, just a need,) so let's see if I can find some positive highlights:

--Won the Battle of the Tonsils in the end, even if our side took severe casualties.

--Scored thousands of dollars' worth of therapy for Minifobette at no cost to us. Can't talk about how it happened, and it's not led to any huge breakthroughs yet anyway, but at least she's in someone else's hands for 3 hours a day.

--I, too, had an improvement in fitness, albeit an accidental one. At this point I can easily two-arm bicep curl about half my weight. I also received a clean bill of health from the gastroenterologist, which had been a creeping weight on my mind for many years given my dodgy family history.

--Made my 100th recipe post, and received more "thank you" emails than I care to go back and count. Dozens upon dozens of personal stories of recovery sent directly to me.

Things to look forward to in the new year:

--redirection and new purpose, hopefully relieving some of the burnout that is detracting from my main purpose
--my first vacation in over 5 years
--Minifob's mainstreaming
--a scheduled date to this place

that should be great fun clod! the eco-adventure!

This is awesome. IMHO. A true achievement.

Nobel prize in 2013, i reckon.

My year has to be judged as pretty good.

Expenses up, income down, and some draws on savings for a new car
and repairs on the old one... but no new debts.

Most of our good events had to do with vicarious pleasures through the G-kids,
a chocolate Lab that is a daily enjoyment at the river, and some day-to-day jobs on the house.

Our not-so-good events were a storm in March that broke a Douglas fir and flung it onto our house,
and some health problems in the immediate family.
But I'm still as healthy as I was this time last year, so that is a Martha Stewart very good thing.

I got some my shit back together and made a plan.

Not a good year, not one of my worst, but really still, a disappointing year. Crappy eye surgery and vision that still sucks, quit a job for no good reason, debts mounting, anxiety and depression... blah blah blah. Thank god it went by so fast. I can only hope I get my act together this year. If only I didn't live in Kokomo. There were a few bright spots. Visited Disney World for the first time and had a blast despite myself. Finally saw Elton John in concert...something I was starting to worry I would never do. Finally went to Brown County.

I had an exceptionally crappy year. Sorry to say it, but it's true. My road to financial security, a road I'd worked so hard to begin to travel, was beset on all sides by snipers. I got pretty new teeth, but the setback is still haunting me. My dentist died, so maybe he is haunting me too.

Diagnosed with anxiety to go along with my depression: helpful to have some help in that arena but certainly not what I'd hoped for my life.

My 97 year old grandmother passed away, the last of my grandparents.

And I turned 46. Somehow turning the corner from 45 to 46 brought on waves of crisiness, and I found myself asking myself "what the hell is my purpose on this earth, except to be some sort of burden to a multitude of folks?"

However, I have high hopes. I can still dig myself out of this hole, and I have a lot of livin' yet to do.

The best thing: I find I am loved for who I am. Not who I think I should be or who I want to be, but for exactly who I am. This is the best we can hope for on this earth.

I can't say it was a bad year. Sure, there were negatives. Work is a drag. I had no raise at work in 2010, and we spent about $3K more last year than we brought in, which isn't good, but I chalk that up to my daughter's braces. Plus we took an awesome vacation to the Grand Canyon, etc., and it was worth spending a bit of the nest egg for that wonderful experience.

My parents are still alive and pretty healthy, and my kids are wonderful. My daughter, especially, has really blossomed in 2010. She had an amazing final semester in elementary school, and is doing well in her first semester in middle school. My son in 3rd grade has been really struggling with spelling and writing, but at the end of 2010, it was all coming together for him, and it seems to be clicking. I've got a great relationship with my wife. I'm happy to be with her.

I realize I'm talking about all these other people, but I just kind of keep on chugging along. I don't even really think about myself much. I'm happy when everyone else is happy.

There are positives and negatives in every year, but all things considered, I'm really glad that I got to experience 2010. I hope 2011 is even better. I get the feeling it will be.

2010 CAN SUCK IT

Good and bad, but overall a decent year for me. There were sadnesses, losing Stella for instance. There were joys, such as starting my PhD.

I've been pretty content this year for the most part.

2010 Was a very good year for me. I was able to move to my dream apartment, and be able to afford it. I found a good church and became a member. My cat was healthy all year and we are healthy. Things can only get better.

Yeah, the thing is, I had used up my yearly insurance allottment on my caps (PLUS 5 billion OOP) and went in for my regular cleaning, not thinking about insurance, I get two a year, right? Well, then a bill comes for 140 bucks. I haven't paid it yet. Unfortunately I have more pressing bills right now. :(

2010 was not so good. I have had worse years, but not too much worse.

Bads:
- Husband lost job in April
- I lost my grandma in April
- Financial struggles the likes of which I had not yet experienced
- The ex-wife-in-law continued on her warpath
- Was screwed (not literally, thank God) by a psychotic (technically, yes) landlord

Goods:
- Husband got a new job in December
- Started a business that seems to be growing
- Son has had a great semester in school
- Reconnected with a couple of old friends
- Managed to stay married (if not sane) and alive through a particularly rough period


I guess it has been okay. Just could have been a lot better.

Yeah, I guess it was pretty normal. I guess I have been spoiled by some really good years in the past. 2011 is starting to look promising, though.
