Moderator Nomination Thread

Undertoad • Jan 1, 2011 7:09 pm
This is part one of the moderators election. (Part two is the actual vote.)

The term of office for this election is through 1/1/2012, and the number of moderators shall remain unchanged at two.

Nominate people to be voted on in the moderators election. People nominated here will appear in the moderators vote, unless they specifically say they do not accept the nomination.

Joke nominations are discouraged, only because I can't tell whether you are joking or not.

The moderator election is not a popularity contest, and everybody hopes that losers, if there are any, do not feel discouraged about the Cellar. Moderator is a harder job than it appears, if only because people think of you differently if you are a moderator.

Nominations will close at 11:59 pm Eastern time on Jan. 5. If this is longer than appears necessary, it's only to make sure everyone gets a chance to see the thread and participate.

Nominations are open.

Understanding Bruce wants out, I nominate Glatt, Wolf, and DanaC.
DanaC • Jan 1, 2011 9:08 pm
I'm very flattered; but I can't put myself forward. I just can't commit to being here all the time.
zippyt • Jan 1, 2011 9:20 pm
Glatt and or griff
Sundae • Jan 2, 2011 7:37 am
I'd go for Glatt and Griff being well balanced moderate posters.
Happily vote for either if they put themselves forward.

Wolf of course MUST be retained.

I'd be up for Monnie (she loves to be called that) because although she can be a hothead I think she might balance things out nicely - although I appreciate she is currently organising enough things to make her eligible for a job running a small country.

I'd also like to suggest JimHelm. He used to be in the centre of many rows, but seems older and wiser now (sorry if this is simply a parallel to your private life). I think it might be good for him.

Okay, it's the Treehouse Club again, but you have to vote for someone you know and you read regularly, right?
footfootfoot • Jan 2, 2011 10:22 am
I actually think Merc would make a good mod because I get the sense that he takes responsibility and commitment seriously and would not view his role as moderator as an enhanced soapbox. I think he would be able to separate his personal politics from his mod duties.
I could be wrong, I was wrong once before, that time when I thought I was wrong but it turned out I was actually right...
wolf • Jan 2, 2011 10:38 am
I graciously accept the nomination.

I'll second the nomination for griff, and glatt ... but the new old LJ? Are you people mad???

I agree!

and I nominate footfoot, because I don't know anyone else who can write with such eloquence and be quixotic at the same time.
glatt • Jan 2, 2011 12:55 pm
I also think Merc might be good as a mod, even though he stirs shit in his posts.

So what is the main job of the Moderators these days? Is it mostly approving posts of new members? Is it deleting a lot of spam? What's the time commitment in a typical day?
HungLikeJesus • Jan 2, 2011 1:15 pm
I would like to nominate ZenGum, as I have great respect for him. I think Bruce is doing a fine job, and I will nominate him also.
kerosene • Jan 2, 2011 1:56 pm
Bruce bowed out this year (unfortunately!)

I am for Griff, Wolf, or Merc if he is up for it.

I had not thought of foot, and I concur.

This is definitely a question which needs answering, for those proposed and those proposing.
wolf • Jan 2, 2011 2:35 pm
Chasing spam, approving first posts by new users, and occasionally keeping the peace ... well, not as a primary job, actually. As UT has said before, The Cellar is essentially self-moderating in that regard.
Sundae • Jan 2, 2011 2:45 pm
I've said No before, because I'm on a different time-frame from other posters.
But I'd be happy to be a sub-mod on GMT if it only needed me to approve first posts and and chase spam.

I would not want to be involved as a full mod because I'm too emotional.
But if the proper elected mods want some assistance in a different time-zone I would promise just to stick to approval of obviously real (or fake clever) first posts and cancel obvious fake spammers.

I accept the offer is probably not necessary, and would have to be subject to vote anyway, but I'm just putting myself forward in case.
skysidhe • Jan 2, 2011 3:38 pm
I actually had you in mind as well, I think you would make a good mod.

I nominate SundaeGirl.
Griff • Jan 2, 2011 4:42 pm
I'll accept the nominations, thanks guys.

Thanks guys. But I would have to decline. I was one of three mods on a major news paper website and just do not have the time to do it justice. I am surprised anyone would consider me and will thank you for the consideration.
monster • Jan 3, 2011 12:12 am
So I guess we'll never know.... ;)
Griff • Jan 3, 2011 6:33 am
*waiting impatiently for glatt footie and Jim to accept as I prefer the nomination to the win*
How about we nominate some non-gray beards? Tulip and Gravdigr
glatt • Jan 3, 2011 8:19 am
I'll accept.

And I second everyone nominated so far, not that it's needed.
jimhelm • Jan 3, 2011 9:31 am
I don't read enough of the cellar to be effective, so I'll pass.
footfootfoot • Jan 3, 2011 10:37 am
SWMBO barely lets me on the cellar as it is, so I regretfully decline.
TheMercenary • Jan 3, 2011 11:33 am
I would support Griff and glatt whole heartedly. They would make a nice compare and contrast to keep things even.

 Ha! I have one of those.
skysidhe • Jan 3, 2011 12:03 pm
Ok, since we are losing contenders, what about plthijinx, lamplighter or Brianna?

For the sake of creativity, I am imagining a board with Sundae Girl and Brianna as moderators.

*Imagining* hummm I am getting no red flags. They're people neutral, acting.
glatt • Jan 3, 2011 12:05 pm
I appreciate being nominated, but hope somebody else wins. I'm willing to do it though.

Full disclosure: I'm here mostly during the day during the work week. I've got the Cellar up in the background for most of the day as I do other stuff at work. So if I was elected a mod, I'd be around during East Coast work hours, but any mod duties would be put way way on the back burner in the evenings and on the weekends. I can't promise anything during those times.

Oh, and I won't be opening any of the NSFW threads at work, so they would go un-moderated by me. I also won't view videos at work, so video content would be un-moderated by me.

I hope I don't come across as presuming I'm a shoe-in for the job, I just think voters deserve to know what they are voting for.
skysidhe • Jan 3, 2011 12:08 pm
It's good to know!

...... and I don't think you are off the mark as being a shoe in.
Unless, you don't want to or can't.
zippyt • Jan 3, 2011 3:00 pm

WHHAAAAHHHOOO !!! Theres the Play ground !!!!!!
Lamplighter • Jan 3, 2011 3:37 pm
Thanks Sky, but I do decline
I'm a Dwellar, not a Queller
classicman • Jan 3, 2011 9:07 pm
Griff and glatt are excellent choices. They've both proven themselves over the years that
I've been here. I think either will do an admirable job.

<insert buttkissing smilie here>

Seriously - They are both great nominations and I'll second, third or whatever we are up to, both of them.
casimendocina • Jan 5, 2011 10:17 pm
Nomination for 3Foot from me.
footfootfoot • Jan 5, 2011 10:34 pm
I would just abuse my power to the extent that I could.
monster • Jan 5, 2011 10:43 pm
that's what we like to hear
HungLikeJesus • Jan 5, 2011 10:48 pm
I'll nominate SquirrelNutkin.
monster • Jan 6, 2011 12:26 am
I nominate HungLikeJesus. And Pico. And second SqwuuurrrrlNutkin. And Shawnee. Shawnee would be totally awesome. She just can't be dishonest or unfair. Unfortunately, that's been totally to her detriment on here recently. The truth hurts sometimes and there are too many people round here who don't want to hear it. I nominate me for similar reasons. I do lie, but only to gullible arseholes :D

I'm sorta taking wolf as a given, so we need someone who respects wolf but has maybe a slightly different set of interests and opinions. We need two mods who cover most of the bases opinion and attitude-wise.

oh wait, I have it, I nominate Henry Quirk.

And no, no of these are joke nominations. All of these people should be given due consideration if they are willing to accept.
Undertoad • Jan 6, 2011 12:35 am
27 minutes after 11:59 pm Eastern time on Jan. 5, though, M.
monster • Jan 6, 2011 12:39 am
Probably just as well ;)
monster • Jan 6, 2011 12:40 am
Srsly, though? Really? Is that the time? Damn it still feels like about 10.
monster • Jan 6, 2011 12:46 am
..i did nominate pico in time in the other thread, though, i think ...I got confused between threads, so maybe she could get a pass if she's up for it....
Undertoad • Jan 6, 2011 12:59 am
Next year there will be no nominating within joke posts.
monster • Jan 6, 2011 1:03 am
and the year after, no joke posts at all? ;)
