Sighted and shot!

So...the guy saw a creature unlike anything he'd ever seen before...had no idea what it might be...so he shot it dead.

Yep.

Poor critter.
First it has to deal with losing its hair, then that very loss leads to its death :(
morethanpretty • Dec 27, 2010 11:26 am
It probably lost its hair due to skin disease or mange, probably better for it that its suffering got cut short.
DanaC • Dec 27, 2010 1:59 pm
Most likely. he probably did the critter a favour...but I just cannot get my head around the fact that he thought it was some kind of mythical creature and fucking shot it!
jimhelm • Dec 27, 2010 2:05 pm
he's from Kentucky. It's lucky he took the pictures BEFORE he ate it.

"OH! I forgot. Your brother has the truck tonight."

Probably tasted just like chicken.

I'm thinking raccoon, but I don't see naked animals all that much.

Have the necropsies identified any of these beasties?

From reading the article, the guy who shot it doesn't really think so. He just saw an odd looking animal, thinking it might be sick and dangerous, he shot it. Then told some neighbors, word got around he had this strange looking animal, and it was other people who heard the rumor about it who decided it was the chupacabra. Not the original guy. My brother lives out in the country and will go after strange looking animals, especially if they seem sick. You don't want to go out one morning and come along a rabid coyote, or have a dog with mange spread it to your own pets.

I sent it to the bio nerd friends over at MT Natural Heritage and FWP. We'll see what they have to say.

I'm with wolf. It looks exactly like some jackass shaved a raccoon.

How else do you prove they exist? Wouldn't want to be thought of as one of those crazy guys who claims he saw Nessie or Big Foot.

Ahh. I had misunderstood then. I thought he was the one who'd suggested it was the chupacabra. In that case he probably did the right thing.

Looks like a Sphynx breed cat that might have wandered off and had a rough time of it.
Pico and ME • Jan 5, 2011 6:45 pm
My Pico could look a lot like that animal if he lost his fur, except just a bit thinner.
