Dec 6, 2010: Pink Snails

Kuriositas has some pictures of an army, well small army, of 45 giant pink snails invading Miami.

Image

The CAP group is committed to creating a sustainable global set of ecosystems and as such they create these sculptures (using only recycled plastics it must be added). The whole point of the project, which is fully supported by the Mayor of Miami Beach, Matti Bower is to make people stop, wonder, think and hopefully act.

Think they're ugly, and act to rid the earth of them?

I thought the pigs were cool, the elephants, the horses, the cows, and all the decorated critters. But these are not.

Do snails get breast cancer?

I like them! They make me think of Dr Dolittle's Great Pink Sea Snail I'm talking about the books here, not the movies)

riffing on pink flamingos. I've got two words for it:

Cle-ver.

I like them.

They are much less ugly than a utility pole, and nobody complains about those monstrosities. If we are going to start a push for more pretty stuff in the world, then start by burying wires.

the only thing worse than a snail is a GIANT snail.

Yuk.

The only thing worse than a PINK giant snail is a PINK giant snail with a utility pole sticking out of its back.

can't argue with that. You covered all your bases there.

They really have the texture looking great on the shells. A bit too *BRIGHT* on the color sure, but it's well done and definitely will catch your eye as you drive past them.

I'm unclear on how big snails represent recycling, but that's another problem, for another day. :p: :p: :p:

Using plastic to make your environmental-art display is a fail. You would think they'd use something natural, wood, stone, etc. You know, things that don't pollute the earth like plastic does.

I like.
I'd have my picture taken riding one for sure.

I was sort of thinking the same thing...only I was imagining it "Life After People" style....those things will be the only things left standing.
