Miniature Christmas Ornaminks

jimhelm • Dec 1, 2010 1:20 am
A Holiday project the kids and I are working on.

We bought 4 $7 mini trees, and about $40 worth of Fimo/Sculpey/cheap brand bake hard modeling clay. (you bake it on 230 degrees for 20 minutes to set it)

it's fun....

here's an hour or so worth of candy canes:

such a crafty family! Nicely done!

Everyone gets their own tree. Sounds like a fun project, it's also interesting to see what people feel is a good decoration for their tree.

I like the elf, and the bell, and the tree shaped ones.
TheMercenary • Dec 1, 2010 10:35 am
Great job! That is some talented art projects. I am impressed. I don't think you can ever do enough of that kind of stuff with your kids.

kerosene • Dec 2, 2010 7:47 pm
I love these, Jim! What a fun project. I might have to do that with my family, actually. Great idea!
jimhelm • Dec 2, 2010 8:11 pm
it's totally fun. I wish I had more time in my life. I spent 3 hours doing it one night by myself!

I might do some tonight. gimme ideas?
skysidhe • Dec 2, 2010 8:17 pm
How about cartoon characters. I have some mini Simpson's ornaments. They're fun,or vehicles,( yeah, after working with them all day, NOT :P) or some musicians.

This thread makes me wish I could do parenting all over again, or borrow some kids.

great project jim

Sky, I think someone should start a "Rent-A-Kid" franchise business.
There's a store-front in Oregon City with that sign in the window, but it's only open on weekends.
The kids do yard work or whatever.

On school holidays, there's a 10 yr old boy that loves baseball.
He bats tennis balls for my Lab, Vicky, and she retrieves the balls so he doesn't have to chase them.

A great pairing of insatiable needs...
bluecuracao • Dec 2, 2010 8:39 pm
Cool stuff! I am trying to figure out what brand those tasty beverages are...Pilsner Urquell maybe?
jimhelm • Dec 2, 2010 8:46 pm

I think this sounds awesome lamp. :thumb:

...but for myself
If I could just hold a baby for 20 minutes then hand it back, I'll be fine. :)

These are totally awesome! Is this clay pre-colored or are you 'dyeing' it?
Tulip • Dec 6, 2010 1:48 am
Those ornaments are really nice. Your kids are really lucky to have you doing stuffs with them. I feel guilty for not putting out enough time to do projects with my nephew. :sniff: I promised that we'll build a fan powered car and I never made time for it. He finally stopped asking. :(
Gravdigr • Dec 6, 2010 4:14 am

The clay comes in a million colors, but we bought mainly primary colors and do a lot of blending to get what we need.

I made a cock, but have not yet uploaded it.
monster • Dec 6, 2010 8:45 pm
we had whales, now we need whale........
jimhelm • Dec 6, 2010 9:15 pm
there will be no whalepenis ornaments. this is a family event.

I'll try to get the rest of the pics up tonight. I think we have enough to start decorating the trees now. I got some store bought mini ornaments too... bells and balls and little garlands.... I'm torn on putting lights on them..... i guess I need to decide that before I start decorating them though....
Pico and ME • Dec 6, 2010 11:24 pm
Yes to the lights!

Two words you don't want to hear in the men's room
skysidhe • Dec 7, 2010 5:58 pm
The c c ..rooster is wonderful.

The value meal is amazingly done too.

I was questioning what the campfire was until I saw the caption. lol

Cool glass ball you got there, Jim. Goes nicely with the Cock.

Have you tried reverse painting yet?
jimhelm • Dec 8, 2010 2:34 pm
hard to get the brush inside there. the white is on the inside, but i couldn't reach any higher, so the blue is outside. as are the trees.
TheMercenary • Dec 8, 2010 8:41 pm
Where is the Whale Penis? Really, come on man, where is it?

spencer made the rings, maid/cow, the swan, the lords, the piper. I made the drum kit, he made the drummer. I made the tree, the turtle doves, hens, dancer, goose and calling birds.
HungLikeJesus • Dec 19, 2010 8:23 pm

I just realized what you meant. that shot looks like they're vertical. that's a cookie sheet with parchment on it. no magnets.
Sundae • Dec 21, 2010 2:30 pm
Love, love, love them all.
If I thought anyone would hang them on their tree I'd be emulating you next year - sadly, the family members that love me just don't do trees any more.

All beautiful, but I have to admit I'm in awe of your cock.
Once I saw it, nothing else could compare.

Yeah, I thought #72 was on the side of your refrigerator.

But wouldn't they be cool with magnets?
jimhelm • Dec 21, 2010 2:38 pm
they would. I'll ask the kids if they think we should get magnets and glue them on. They're giving the set to jinx, so I'll leave that call up to them.
kerosene • Dec 21, 2010 8:16 pm
I'll say it again, these are really neat. You should make some bacon eggs and toast. Maybe pancakes with butter and syrup. Do they make transparent fimo?
jimhelm • Dec 21, 2010 8:24 pm
nice.... I have never seen transparent, but I could figure something out. glue maybe. wonder if I could manage a Belgian Waffle.....?
kerosene • Dec 21, 2010 10:31 pm
Yes, and a little glass of orange juice...but you would need transparent for that, too.
jimhelm • Dec 22, 2010 2:13 am
Breakfast is my specialty. I have my kids convinced that I am the God of Breakfast.

Because, frankly.... I am. no, really. I am.
