Red Photo Contest

Gravdigr • Nov 29, 2010 5:29 am
Take one picture of something red. No poinsettias!

You have until Sunday, December 5, 11:59:59pm to post your pic.

The winner gets to look down his/her nose at the rest of us in a haughty manner.

In the event of a tie, the winner will be selected based on shoe size.

Go.
skysidhe • Nov 29, 2010 3:51 pm
no,no no, nose length!
Gravdigr • Nov 29, 2010 5:41 pm
Big nose and small feet, huh?
skysidhe • Nov 29, 2010 6:12 pm
haha I'm laugh'n. I think you might be right. I have my grandmother's Cherokee nose. It probably not prominent enough to break a tie though.
Juniper • Nov 29, 2010 8:59 pm
If I'm going to win, I'd better start lying, pronto.
Gravdigr • Nov 30, 2010 3:52 am
:lol2:
Sundae • Nov 30, 2010 6:51 am
I'll be entering. Coincidentally my photo may end up being my nose.
I am coming down with a stupid stinking stinky stupid cold.
HungLikeJesus • Dec 5, 2010 10:12 pm
Amusing. A photo contest, in a photo thread, with no photos.

It's like that painting.
footfootfoot • Dec 5, 2010 10:57 pm
Or that movie made with no film in the camera. Which I saw, by the way. It was ok, but the last 20 minutes were predictable.
HungLikeJesus • Dec 5, 2010 11:02 pm
Please! no spoilers.
Juniper • Dec 6, 2010 1:59 am
Maybe I'll take a photo of my wall.

Or the book I just red.
Gravdigr • Dec 6, 2010 6:03 pm
I win. Fuck all o' ya.
Gravdigr • Dec 6, 2010 6:06 pm
Bunch o' damn poinsettia lovers...
Bullitt • Dec 6, 2010 6:16 pm
I'm working on it.
skysidhe • Dec 6, 2010 6:59 pm
Maybe there's just too much red out there to choose.

I would but gave my camera to my mother.

I don't have a data cable for my phone, yet I could try, but you guys have better cameras...so*sigh*

*drumming fingers on the desktop waiting for red*
Juniper • Dec 6, 2010 7:22 pm
My camera is red.
Nirvana • Dec 7, 2010 12:00 am
I just now found this thread, my face is red!
jimhelm • Dec 7, 2010 12:00 am
ho ho ho
Sundae • Dec 7, 2010 6:55 am
Nice one Jim
Here's mine:
glatt • Dec 7, 2010 8:18 am
I like that one, Sundae.
Shawnee123 • Dec 7, 2010 8:48 am
That is a nice picture.

Sometimes you need to stop and thaw the roses!
skysidhe • Dec 7, 2010 12:17 pm
Funky ole lampshade my mother gave me. It's not her style AT ALL. It is in my bedroom where people can't see it. It makes a great night time lamp.

Cute little plate.
Not much for photo quality. These are taken with my cell phone. I had to send the photos to my email then download them. I need a data cable. Are data cables universal? I wonder.

Clodfobble • Dec 10, 2010 5:06 pm
Oh hey check it, I actually have a photo that meets the criteria, for once:
skysidhe • Dec 11, 2010 4:58 pm
Does the three bite red dessert have a name? Looks good.
Clodfobble • Dec 11, 2010 5:41 pm
It's a coconut milk custard with strawberry sauce. Recipe is at the link in my signature. :)
skysidhe • Dec 11, 2010 6:08 pm
Thank you.

Great site.

I can't wait to make THAT one, in particular. Coconut milk is so healthy. I have a carton in my fridge. Now I know what do do with it.
HungLikeJesus • Dec 11, 2010 6:24 pm
What do you mean by "healthy"?
skysidhe • Dec 11, 2010 7:25 pm
Well, outside of a Pina Colada, it has many health benefits. Fatty acids are one example.
Clodfobble • Dec 11, 2010 9:25 pm
It also contains caprylic acid, which is a potent antimicrobial.
HungLikeJesus • Dec 11, 2010 9:37 pm
So is cinnamaldehyde, which is why it's used in gum.
footfootfoot • Dec 11, 2010 10:47 pm
So is Everclear which is why it's used in, umm, drinks.
HungLikeJesus • Dec 11, 2010 11:46 pm
And for cleaning copy machines.
footfootfoot • Dec 12, 2010 11:30 am
Copy machines! That's what I meant!
TheMercenary • Dec 15, 2010 11:16 pm
I was completely driven to take some pics of suction canisters and sponges soaked in blood from a C-Section last night for this contest but I resisted. Carry on.

Here's looking at you, red.
skysidhe • Dec 25, 2010 10:07 am
It's blooming for Christmas!
and so is my African violet. It would be an ugly plant if it wasn't so perfect.
Lamplighter • Dec 25, 2010 12:11 pm
Did not make it for Christmas... planted on Halloween

It would be a perfect plant if it wasn't so ugly !
skysidhe • Dec 25, 2010 1:16 pm
:p:
Lamplighter • Dec 25, 2010 3:26 pm
Merry Christmas, Sky.

The Christmas Cactus is quite special in our family.
It started with a cutting (?) from my grandmother in Tennessee,
went with my Mom to California for a generation,
then to my wife while we were in Texas.
It's now divided among our 3 daughters, and still blooming at Christmas time.

So, not making fun, yours is perfect and a great remembrance for me.
skysidhe • Dec 25, 2010 5:41 pm
@ foot.....which half? half a foot?

Thanks Lamp. Merry Christmas to you! and thank you.

It needs re-potted. When is a good time? I've let it go for so long, I am afraid of killing it but by what you said, they are very hardy plants.
Lamplighter • Dec 26, 2010 1:59 pm
Twas the day after Christmas... almost made it

Still trying and still perfectly ugly
skysidhe • Dec 26, 2010 4:13 pm
wow, what a difference a day makes! ...sometimes
Lamplighter • Dec 27, 2010 9:34 pm
Twas Christmas+2
And my blooms finally popped through
Amaryllis is my name
And blooming red is my fame !

Groan...:thepain:

...just enjoy the color
skysidhe • Dec 27, 2010 9:39 pm
It's beautiful!
Gravdigr • Jan 4, 2011 2:16 am
That's pretty cool, LL.
Lamplighter • Jan 6, 2011 1:04 pm
You can tell I've entered boredom-land as I set about posting pictures of a growing plant.

Xmas+12, and after a top-heavy tumble to the floor,
Amaryllis now has 4 blossoms + sprouts.
Unfortunately, her tumble may have damaged the stalk
because the two new blossoms don't look all that healthy.

Who knows how far she will grow,
and how far I can sink in this
"...artificially peach-and-vanilla scented swamp
of regurgitate-reminiscent slime that currently
passes for banter in here
"
glatt • Jan 6, 2011 1:45 pm
my parents had one of those, and it actually bloomed on Christmas day itself. Pretty impressive.
Lamplighter • Jan 13, 2011 11:16 am
I won't show a picture of the sad state of our pet amaryllis.
It ended up with 4 blossoms.
But either the tumble to the floor or it's natural life cycle has ended it's fashion show.

Does anyone know about the care and feeding of an amaryllis after it's blooming cycle ?

We'd like to try to keep it going, but maybe it is just a one-off event.
