Finally. Seems to me they waited until the nation really needed something positive to celebrate to get them out of the doldrums.....

I love the way Charles said "They've been practising for long enough" ...taking a leaf out of his father's book of tact!

"Doors to manual!"

probably won't stay up all night for this one
monster • Nov 16, 2010 12:08 pm
I might. Not sure why I'm interested, but I am. Guess it's a link to the homeland. I was on vacation when Diana got married to whoever it was she married

He's giver her his mother's engagement ring.
Let's hope it works out better for Kate...

Then again, it does seem like a love match this time.
Good luck to them.

weird using the ring from a couple who ended so publically disastrously. I guess for him it's just his mum's ring and they're both too young to see it as the same symbol of Diana and Whatisname as we old folk do....

Not to mention the fact that she was buried with it. lol!!!

Next, it'll be the date, the venue (Westminster Abbey is top of the pops so far) then the flowers, the bridesmaids and of course the effing frock...

Starting today we'll all be flooded with royal wedding hysteria trivia and I do sort of wish they'd nip off to Gretna and just do it, but still wish them all the luck in the world, they'll need it.

As to the effing frock, do you think she'll choose a brit designer;) just kidding.
Cloud • Nov 16, 2010 6:23 pm
do couples still elope to Gretna Green? It thought that was just in Heyer . . .
Aliantha • Nov 16, 2010 6:50 pm
They said on the news that it was going to be a small ceremony at the same chappel Charles married Camilla.

The ring Diana had for her engagement was a classic. I know so many people who had replicas (far less expensive) as their rings for quite a few years after that. I think it's nice that Kate is getting it. I'm sure it would mean a lot to everyone involved for her to wear it.

As to the whole thing, good luck to them. Just like every other couple, I guess they'll have their ups and downs. I hope they have more ups though.

pardon all the spelling errors in the above post.

Should be a great event.

William said the ring was a way for his mum to be there, sharing their excitement and happiness.

I'm not one o'them thar royalists, as you can probably guess...but I quite like the princes. They seem a pretty well-balanced pair of lads (aside from the unfortunate choice in fancy dress outfits) considering the life they've led.

It's strange really. I think there's a sense in which they, probably more than any other royals, seem to 'belong' to the nation. The whole thing about Di being the 'people's princess' was ridiculous and staged, but it also resonated. Very similar in fact to the way the nation adopted princess charlotte in the late Georgian era. Seems that side of our national culture remains strong at some level.

The public death of their mother left the nation feeling, in a sense, almost in loco parentis to the young princes. I think, anyway.

The Royal Mint will quite likely strike a Prince William engagement commemorative coin. Until then, we'll have to settle for these.

yes, but not in the old fashioned sense: says here they need a minimum of 15 days

But couples do still go there to marry without teling anyone.

You can call me a misanthrope but already I'm sick of William and Kate.

Being royal is an accident of birth - like a cleft palate or club foot.
DanaC • Nov 17, 2010 8:31 am
Your sick of them? I currently can't turn on my radio or tv without them being there.

It must be hellish.

So hellish, I apparently forgot how to use the English language :P

S'okay. It happens to all of us at sum time or another. I can only imagine your level of distraction with all the Willie&Kate hawking going on over there.

Willi&Kate+Eight! Would make a great reality show...

Let the royal lovers have their fun. It's no worse than reading about the Redskins every Monday morning on the front page of the Washington Post. At least these weddings are only every 30 years.

I didn't realize that it was staged. The outpouring wherever she went/did/said seemed genuine. And during/after the divorce, the vast majority seemed to be on her side. That comment fascinates me. Do tell ...

I disagree. The Redskins are (unless they win BIG) relegated to the sports section and the sports part of the news (last three minutes of the show) and you can avoid it if you want -these two are, literally, everywhere. People fall in love and get married every damn day. I'm sick of the fetish-izing and fawning bullshite of it all.

I prefaced my comments with the 'misanthrope' label, didn't i? ;)
xoxoxoBruce • Nov 17, 2010 11:04 am
glatt was speaking of the Washington Post's front page.

Misanthrope is an alibi, excuse, cover, for I'm so jealous I could spit. :haha:

I was referring to the press and so on calling her 'The People's Princess' and the 'Princess of Hearts' before she died. When she did that interview on TV about her marriage to Charles and the separation that followed.

A lot of the stuff that went on after her death also seemed very staged. Again, I am referring more to how it was portrayed in the press and how a lot of that national 'grief' was facillitated and encouraged by the press.

Classic Frankie.

Mock the Week died when he left.

I'm confused about the upcoming TV season.

"Will and Kate plus 8K" ?

Which one is William? The taller one or the shorter one?
