Odometer Poker
OK, everybody's played dollar bill poker, where you use the serial number on a bill to make a poker hand. Same thing. Almost everyone now has a car that has a seven digit odometer. Take those seven digits, and build a five card poker hand.
For example: Your odometer reads 157,556.5 miles, you have four fives. 144,449.4 miles, and you have five fours. 259,299.1, you have a full house, 9's over 2's. For the purposes of this contest, five zeros would beat four nines. Of course, there are no face cards, aces, or jokers. Nothing wild. We're playing stud, cuz, that's how I roll.
You have until Sunday, Nov. 7 at 11:59:59pm to post a picture of your odometer poker hand (a pic of your odometer). Maybe this will keep someone from building a ringer hand.
The winner will have the privilege of saying "Yay, I won!"
ETA: In the unlikely event of an unbreakable tie, the Dwellar with the best cleavage wins.
if i take a new demo this week and it has 00007 on it, i'm going to win?
ok mine is at 99,999 :)
A progressive person might go for a drive of 1 more mile
ok mine is at 99,999 :)
And tonight are you going to party?
noooo of course not. I'm going to do my part in saving the environment ;)
Luckily, might odometer keeps mileage alphabetically. Right now I'm at AAAAA
My odometer only 'deals' me six numbers.
You only need five...seven is just the number of cards. You just won't have as many cards to choose from.
Also, if you have a bike, motorcycle, four-wheeler or anything else with an odometer (of at least five digits), that'll work also.
Anyone cheats, and I will fart in your exact direction.
if i take a new demo this week and it has 00007 on it, i'm going to win?
If no one has 00007.0, cuz, 5 is more than 4. No, really.
Can we bluff? How does that work? Cause I've got a 7 card straight.
I don't know how you'd bluff in this case.
And those 7's look pretty strong...
ETA: No use posting if you can't beat four sevens.
I don't understand this at all.
And the only poker I know how to play is Strip Poker, which is effectively Pontoon anyway. And the only real rule is to pretend you are embarrassed and don't want to take your clothes off so the man you are playing with thinks he is getting away with something, when really you're after the same thing.
BUT.
I will take a photo of Dad's mileage.
And as I am completely clueless you'll have to tell me if I should get him to drive around a bit more.
Because you're so clever and I'm so silly and I really don't want to lose at this you know (innocent look, removing socks)
And the only poker I know how to play is Strip Poker...
You can strip. In fact, please do.
Just remember to take pictures of your hand...and anything else you uncover!
:p:
Thanks for that Gravdigr. Like Sundae Girl I don't have much idea about poker so perhaps someone will help me here - I think I have a 'straight' and since I've decided they're all hearts that would be a 'straight flush'?.
4-5-6-7-8

Shit - I'm gonna have to hope I drive into a good hand...
You guys got your "game on" so far!

Well, we don't got no suits, so a straight it is. Good hand, but, four sevens have it so far.

Yeah, same here. It was my idea, so I should've waited for a ringer hand, before posting. I don't think I can even drive to a better hand than four sevens.:yelsick:
Well, I got squat in a contest that was my own damn idea. I had a straight, but then BigV came along with those damnable sevens.
BigV you are the wiener. Congrats.
IT was actually kinda cool - I looked at my odometer more than usual to see what was possible coming up.

Aw, thanks man. No need to be mad though--all the girls say the same thing to me.
I'd say for the sake of the game, since we don't have suits, that a straight flush would have to be 5 consecutive numbers. e.g 23456 would be a straight flush, and 32645 would be an ordinary straight. It wouldn't work for regular straight though, I guess that's still out.
here we go - it was a bitch takin a pic with my phone .......

That might work.
so are 0's high or low? is it 10's? so you have 5's full of 10's or 5's full of 0's?

What about co-opting the rules from Yahtzee? They have straights and such and no suits too.

I vote tens. There are no zeros in poker.
You have until Sunday, Nov. 7 at 11:59:59pm to post a picture
Well, I suppose you didn't specify which year...
We started disregarding the deadlines months ago, so, I took the liberty.
I was also running out of pics to post.
BTW, I think zeros should be Aces.
But, then again, I'm Sheening ATM.
Sheening?
does that mean you're doing enough coke to kill a grizzly bear?
Maybe not enough to kill one, but enough to fuck one. [/kidding]
ETA: Shoulda said WINNING!!, perhaps.
Makes me think, what fun would doing coke be during the day?
I'm already up, and would be, coke or no.
Are we talking Coke or Cocaine. Cause they are really different.

they weren't back in the day!! :D
I like the page that I have it linked too - look halfway down, it talks about the genetic code of the blood. It's under the "downsides of banking cord blood". My doctor mentioned that part to me and I looked into it - it was my deciding factor not to.
I'm guessing this one really is banned
wtf?? what does genetic code have to do with odometer poker? me thinks youz be right monie!

Hardly anyone banks cord blood. Just a few a year where I work. About the same number that have their heads cryogenically frozen.
did you crash while taking that?
I pulled over. The top row I saw coming, the bottom row was just pure dumb luck. I had purchased gas 11.1 miles earlier and reset the trip meter.
You should have got the spedometer up to 111 as well!
(OK, maybe just 11.)
that's friggin spooky, glatt.
I thought I had posted these.... Taken in a friend's wrangler this summer. we had swapped cars so I could sell him my trailer, and this happened on the way back:
Two days ago, Momdigr's odo read 139,999.9, and I didn't have my camera.
Sorry, Grav.
I was running around the threads being a smartass. There really isn't a PM.
p.s. where ya been? Noticeably absent!

1. Heh, 'salright.
2. Long story. Maybe later.
I hope everything is ok. :)

I missed 101010 1.0 unfortunately.
nice!
It's more about the patterns than it is about a high poker hand.
Rule changes must go through the executive board.
Rule changes must go through the executive board.
I made a picture frame outta that board.
How was the execution of your work?
Hah! It was poor, V, very very poor. :lol2:
Took over 20 years to get here.
Congratulation! What kind of vehicle?
Ima guess it's a Ford.
The square instrument panel panels make me think this.
Congratulation! What kind of vehicle?
It's a 1992 Dodge Caravan, I bought it used in 2000 for $2500 and it had 120,000 miles on it.
I'm more impressed after hearing it's a Caravan. You expect a Honda or similar to reach 200K, but a Dodge?

That would be because it's a 5-speed, the other dodge vehicles we have had were automatics and were nothing but trouble.
you are one patient monkey.
Lucky sevens!

So is that pic!! Thought I was drunk....
Good catch.
Yeah, I may have taken that picture while driving...
It's not worth looking for the proper thread, so I'll put it here...
A sedan on the freeway had the customized license plate " C GPA "
I read it as "Grade Point Average, and then I thought, it must be something else.
Then I realized the fellow was driving a Lexis.
Yeah, I may have taken that picture while driving...
I may be driving too......maybe better streets:D......1998 Ford F150, Original miles.
Today around three..
A little bit past here.....

Taken with my old Olympus C740 3.2 mp.......
JR
Hmmm...Fuel door to the left of the instrument panel...:D
All the modern cars have that arrow. It's so you can tell which side of the car to put next to the pump.
Grand Cherokee One:

Deuces are wild, right?
If only you'd checked it one tenth of a mile sooner... Still, that's a lot of damn miles!
Yeah, I was sposed to hit the reset when the odometer tenths was on 2 too...I may have been recovering from an endrunkening...anyway, that should've been eleven twos.
:yelsick:
But, on the bright side,
only 111,111.1 miles til the next chance.
Still, that's a lot of damn miles!
Popdigr bought Grand Cherokee One showing 125k miles, so, only 100k, or so, are ours. Outside of rebuilding the transmission, and replacing the water pump, it's been solid as a rock! It's pretty much mine now, I'm the only driver now that he got a 2001 Grand Cherokee. GC One will be 20 yrs old next year.

It took you 2 3/4 months to put 444 miles on your jeep. You need to get out more, bro.
I'm poor.
And it's cold and ugly out.
Not bragging or anything but...:
Yes, that's my truck. No, they aren't ALL my miles. And currently, I'm at 804595
I've never seen a truck gauge before. It's cool that fuel is so prominent.
That is very important information.
Today I learned...that my truck doesn't go lower than 31 gallons indicated. However, sloshing fuel will change the reading lower. I have a 165 gallon capacity and I put in 158 gallons. I was beyond fumes and was only running on prayers. $708 bill. Ouch. Note to self, try to avoid buying diesel in New York in future.
Here's my entry. I just happened to look down when I was driving and saw this was coming up in 3/10 of a mile.

Nice catch, but, that's a weird pic. The odo/tripmeter numbers are legible, as are the needles for tach/speedo...But the numbers for the tach/speedo, and the numbers/letters, as well as the needles, for temp & fuel gauges are double vision territory.
Kinda weird.
that is weird how they are sharp.
I bet the camera twisted clockwise/counterclockwise rather than sliding laterally. It's like those time lapse star photos where the stars on the outside make long curved lines, but the one star in the center of the photo looks pretty much just like a dot.
The camera bumped up/down during the exposure. All the elements are doubled, it's just a lot easier to see in areas of high contrast. Even the odometer readout.
The double images are more pronounced at the top of the image than at the bottom, so I think instead of a bump, it was a pivot/tilt. The lower half of the image stayed in the same area of the frame and remained sharp, but as the camera tilted upward, the upper part of the image got that double image motion blur.
Easier for me to visualize than explain, but basically the pivot point was the lower half of the image, so it stayed sharper there.
I'm going to go with the Glattfobble explanation.
Huh? Isn't the double image just the reflection of the gauges on the piece of plastic that covers the gauges? and it angles. so...
or have i just gone stupid? is there really some sort of complex sci-fi explanation? or are most of you stoned and feeling really smart?
or are most of you stoned and feeling really smart?
*cough*
Infi, I'm sure that you are many things...I'm equally sure that stupid is not one of those things.
But, I'm going with the Glattsplanation. An up/down jiggle would produce the effect we're seeing, and would not be as pronounced in the vertical plane (explaining the more focused gauge needles, somewhat).
Maybe it's a little shaky because he's taking pictures of his instrument panel at 75 fucking miles an hour... probably drunk... in a school zone.. on icy roads... with children in the car! :smashfrea

Yes, I am many things. I'm a mosaic of madness. A conglomeration of crazy. A diorama of dementia.
But anyway. The more focused gauge needles are because the needles are closer to the aforementioned reflective plastic that is causing the doubly images in the picture.
Oh never mind, I'm sure it's way more difficult than I'm making it. ;)
This was my Impala when I traded it in back in December...she was still going strong too:
you don't play much poker, do ya?
odometer wise though... 320k miles, that's a lot of wheel time.
I got screwed by the River.
277,000 miles in just over 3 years. She was very good to me.

My wife's Avalon rolled 300,000 yesterday! Yes, the CE light is on and I reset it every 2 weeks or so. We had it fixed once and cost $600 and lasted a year or so. Took it back to the same shop and they said not to worry about it, just reset it. It passes the state inspection every year.
Dealer's choice.
This hand is called "Max Segments".

that is impressive. mine is coming up on that too. we're babes compared to chrisinhouston

True. Not to mention elSic and Pamela.
Sadly, I traded in my ol' girl last year for a new van for work. Then my business imploded...yeah...
I don't know why my pix are so big, I do everything the same.
Ya might try changing the size of your saved pics. My phone saves pics in one of three sizes, yours probably has more choices. Maybe under camera settings.
Now we want to see 8s and then 9s. :D
wow, that's some precise resetting right there.
nice catch!

Nice!
I'm not big on Football - what's that last "03" in red? Fractional seconds?
Seconds on the play clock, the team has a limit of 40 seconds (mostly) to run each play.
Wow; even more of a coincidence, then. If it were fractional seconds of the 13:13 clock, it could have been found by going frame by frame (with a bit of luck). As a separate timer, there's no guarantee that it will line up like that.
Quite a nice layout mate!!
