Secret Santa
Are we gonna do one this year???!!??? I was just wondering cuz all the Christmas things out in the store is making me excited. :D
I tripped over some Christmas decorations in the post office this morning and thought it was a bit early.
Very bah humbuggy of me. I'm thinking here of the line in "About a Boy" where the main character is wandering through a supermarket and Christmas music starts playing and he says: "November, the sodding 19th"...and he laments the fact that gearing up for xmas starts earlier every year. Having said that, getting pressies for people is always fun so why not.
I'll be counted out. After the shabby reception I got last year for the gift I sent, after having to repost my gift because my recipient gave me the wrong address in the first place, I have a sour taste in my mouth.

There was no reason to dredge up old grudges.
I'm a bit on shaky ground financially, but I would love to be involved. I just won't be able to afford the post overseas so I'll have to request to be kept in the North American pool only. :(
Sorry friends across the pond.

Evidently, seeing as that was the year before.
I loves me some Christmas. Count me in!
I groaned aloud when I walked into Lowe's yesterday and saw the Christmas stuff out and ready. Earlier than usual. But the first Christmas tree place opened like a week ago. I think they are gearing up for Xmas 2011 this year.
That rant aside...sign me up this year. Things have improved greatly this year and I'm feeling uncharacteristically jolly.

no better way to end that feeling than a successful outcome after another try. C'mon Ali share the love ;)
I'm in...

No. you're right. It was poor form.
Evidently, seeing as that was the year before.
Really? Oh well, the last couple of years have been a bit of a blur for me. It is true that I was bitterly disappointed at the time though. One of my most depressing gift giving experiences.
I'll still pass though. I've decided it's too expensive to participate.
...because you refused to stick to the expenditure guidelines. They were there for a reason but you had to find out for yourself. You made your own bed, now lie in it. And hush now, because it's after lights-out, and the grown-ups want to talk.
Wow, we've got nine interested so far. Let's wait a bit to see how much more interested and see who'd be willing to organize it. :p:

No, I had to repost the item at $25/per time. That's $50 not including the cost of the gift which if you must know cost around $20 or maybe even a bit less.
Oh and btw monster, it's really a shame you have to be so rude sometimes, but thanks for reminding me why I don't post here much anymore.

:thumbsdn: That was uncalled for MONNIE :stop:
no it wasn't and ouch my feelings.
I believe it was -thats my opinion. Let it fucking go.
I am in - for the first time actually
I'm in... but hopefully ALL of my gift will get to the person this year. I never did get an answer on *why* the good part of my gift was removed from the package. I did not try again because I did not want to pay that much shipping, to have them take it out again. Then I simply forgot to purchase something else to send. Actually... I will send something out to replace at the same time as I send this years gift out!
I can only do North America as well.. shipping over seas is too expensive for us right now.
I'll be in as well, but not SN. He is a slacker.
I'm in!!! I'm in!! Whoops I digress ;)
Oh... Go on then. I'm in :P
I guess I'm in too . . . my recipient seemed happy with what she got, and hopefully my gift will arrive this year in its entirety :)
I'm in as I already said, but I'd like to request, if possible an American Dwellar this year.
Maybe Ducks, Ali, Zen and I can organise a Kris Kringle/Secret Santa between us and then there'll be no need for exhorbitant postage.
There appears to be more than enough people so that anyone wishing to avoid overseas can be accommodated.
I'd be happy to do that Cas. :)
I'd be happy to do that Cas. :)
Cool.
But but but you still have to post pic and stuff.
yabbut how are the yanks going to get our souvenir Uluru rocks and Koala fur hats?
Count me in. And international is fine too.
But but but you still have to post pic and stuff.
If I can find my camera battery recharger-absolutely.
Im in for the Aus one :)
Ixcellent.
FYI, you can avoid overseas postage if you order through amazon, gap, etc. :)
does Gap have a cock range?
....if there's a theme this year, I'd like to propose hurt fingers.....
I'm starting to feel all warm inside.
I'm starting to feel all warm inside.
You should pee more often. :-)
Sake and vodka make me warm inside. If I don't pee often enough its the insides of my legs that get warm...
Note to self: Secret Santa gift for MTP *Depends* /thought]

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/aboutus#helpContentI quite often buy from their amazon shop.
Dana: Do you mean "quit"? If yes, why?
If you're shopping Amazon, you should go
here first, and click the Amazon link at the left side of the page.;)
When can I expect to learn the name of my <strike>victim</strike> giftee?
Question: How do we know what to send? I mean, sending foodstuffs to another country can be problematic and what if I send something inappropriate? Is there a suggestion list?
Brian
You cand send candles, wire, and an alarm clock to any country. Just tape them together with electrical tape so they don't shift during transit.
Dana: Do you mean "quit"? If yes, why?
Umm...no, I mean 'quite often'. I buy from there on a relatively frequent basis.
Umm...no, I mean 'quite often'. I buy from there on a relatively frequent basis.
Well QUITE doing that!!! :-)
I'm in.
Am happy to send overseas - I love Limey and Dana, but I'm seeing them early January.
It's nice to send to one person and have them represent the Cellar for me.
As long as I don't get no-one yucky.

Woo HOO! Gettin' closer!
Ain't it though? We should start practising our He's-behind-you' s.
Umm...no, I mean 'quite often'. I buy from there on a relatively frequent basis.
I reread your sentence and it makes sense now. :p: I must've been really tired when I first read it. :p:
November's approaching. We're gonna need a volunteer to organize Secret Santa. :D
Someone step up! I'm not smart enought to run this goat roping
ok ok ok.. if no one with experience steps up, I will do it.
Jaydaan, if you really want to participate, I can organize the Secret Santa, provided that the other members agree. I can do it if the other members trust me. But, umm....I've never organized one before. Ain't so hard to organize one, is it? :D
No tougher than herding cats... big jungle cats. ;)
Oh, then I would need a really big whip...:frog:
LOL I planned on participating too... I was just going to make sure we had even numbers, and then the last name left would be mine. If we didn't have even numbers I would have dropped out. Either way hun.. if you want to do it, go for it, if not, I will.
Please let me know what you decide this weekend, so if I am doing it, I can work out the kinks, get the names and get this nifty little ball rolling :)
Monnie says you don't need even numbers.
I said you did (in ignorance) and she proved otherwise. Somehow. In a completely convincing way.
Guess why I didn't volunteer :)
Also you need to ask about donors - some people like to send and not receive.
And sometimes people like to send to deserving causes who have refused to register because they can't send - this mostly requires asking people for other people's addresses via PM.
Oh, and we need a theme.
And everyone needs to advise you of despatch.
Then we need a new thread for receipts.
Not trying to tell you your job.

Girl, if you can organize and participate, then I pass the ball to you. :D I counted a total of 24 participants. I counted Casimendocina, Aliantha, and Ducknuts in the list but for the Aussie only. So, there's really only 21 names to shuffle. If there's anyone who prefer not to send internationally other than Morethanpretty and Classicman should speak up now too.
You don't need even numbers because it's not done in matched pairs. A gives to B, B gives to C, and C gives to A. Aside from not needing even numbers, it's important because part of the fun is guessing who gave to you.
I'm sorry, but I think I'll have to pass on oversears this year.
OK, I don't want to organoze this year because ... well, just because. But I'm happy to arrange/randomize who gives to who including the organizer if the organizer sends me a list of names split into the following categories (and any I missed)
N. Am to N. Am only
N. Am to anywhere
Europe to Europe only
Europe to Anywhere
Australasia to Aus only
Australasia to anywhere
Anywhere else to Anywhere (no non-overseas option for these people)
You can then send out the mailing details to the appropriate people. And SG's right, it doesn't matter how many there are in each category, it will work.
Okies.... here goes.
I will organize this little adventure.
Do we really need a theme?
Lets see... how about a $10-25ish limit, before shipping? I am sure some will go over, but we should have a limit so people don't feel obligated on a cost. :)
Remember its not the $$ spent, but the thought and effort that counts!
Anyone willing to ship a gift, but do not want to recive one, please let me know
It would be nice to have 2 "stand by" givers as well... in case someone joins then can not participate after the names are drawn.
Let's have the names drawn on Nov 15th, and then all parcels sent out by Nov 29th. Does that sound fair enough, to get all names in, and 2 weeks to get your gift?
I need each person who wishes to join in to PM me the following:
-Real name, address
-How far you are willing to ship to
-Describe to me your 3 likes and 3 dislikes
-Tell me your fav colour, hobbies, etc...
Anything I have missed, I am sure someone will let me know ;)
You might want to include clothing sizes in your list (specify country). One Size Fits All doesn't! (not that I'd ask for or send a tee shirt, but such a thing can happen).
Hmmmm good point.. I guess if you are willing to have someone else shop for clothes for you, please include shirt size... lol
Sorry for not volunteering this year - I have in other years and I've not been needed. I just have a bit more going on this year - hurray!!!
Thanks to Jay for taking the baton from Monster's capable hands.
So I'll organise Secret Santa/Kris Kringle for Ducks, Ali and I - within Oz only.
If I can find my camera battery recharger-absolutely.
Battery charger found and camera recharged!
So I'll organise Secret Santa/Kris Kringle for Ducks, Ali and I - within Oz only.
If you, Ducks, and Ali don't mind, I think Jaydaan wouldn't mind shuffling the 3 names among yourselves. That way, you three will only send within Aussie and all three will still not know who's ur secret Santa. Unless y'all would prefer to organize your own, then....
I think Casi is going to organize for us Tulip, so you probably don't need to worry about putting our names in the hat. At least, that's my understanding anyway.
I am sure Casi has that under control :)
As for the rest of us, I have 12 names so far, with me 13. You have 4 days to get your name in the hat. On the 15th I will draw names, and reply to each privately at that time.
I wish I had the $$ to send EVERYONE a gift, your answers have made me smile and chuckle, and many times I have thought.. ohhh I know exactly what they would like. I think this years gift will be exciting to see pictured.
I'm so exciting. 24 hours of only Christmas music starts next week.
Jaydaan,
I just googled Vernon, BC. I had assumed it was coastal. You are seriously in East Cornflake. What happens in Vernon?
LoL
We are about 4-5 hours from the West Coast. Right in the middle of the mountains.
Vernon is pretty quiet, just the way we like it. We are in the Valley, surrounded with mountians. Funny, we call them hills now...
Even on the rainy gloomy days, my walk to work makes me realized how pretty this city really is. We are a 10-15 min drive from several lakes, including the one that is hiding our lake monster, Ogopgo.
We are big enough to have some good concerts and festivals, and small enough to be laid back and carefree. More people own boats, then houses, so a study last year tells us. We are about 20 mins away from Silver Star Ski resort, and about 45 mins away from Big White.
Lots to do, if you care to. Otherwise, sit on your deck with your neighbours and drink a beer. :)
This post is just a reminder for those interested to send Jaydaan their infos before the drawing of names on the 15th. :)
I was about to post a reminder.. but Tulip did that already for me. LOL
24 hours left to get you names to me. Tomorrow I will organize who can send to where, and draw names.
PS I have worked 6 days straight, have a trade show all day today, and have a freaking cold. Do not expect your name info too early tomorrow :)
I thought about making a sock puppet with a similar looking handle to Jaydaan and then posting here all the names of the people and who they were matched to. I thought it might be funny to see everyone's reactions... I am avoiding other work.
PS I have worked 6 days straight, have a trade show all day today, and have a freaking cold.
What do you expect, it's November, and you spend 6 days in those scandalous nighties. ;)
LoL not the nighties... in the beer store. But todays trade show was my Wiccan stuff and nighties, get this the Witch stuff sold 3-1 to the lingerie/toys.
Halloween hangover? Delaware residents?
I got my info in late, as I was on the road and missed the posting. I hope I'm not too late...
Brian, not too late.. but I need more info for your secret santa sender. Please send me your likes/ dislikes . Thanks
Going to have my breakfast, wake up and then start sorting names/locations. I will check my pms one more time beofre I draw names, so latecomers have about 2 hours left....
I will check my pms one more time....
That made me chuckle...
Don't forget to wear the sorting hat. ;)
Okies.... check your messages... names have been drawn, and messages have been copied and sent to your senders.
Here's hoping I did right. I had one small hiccup, but was able to smooth it out.. lol
If anyone got over seas, when they can not afford the extra shipping, please contact me. I *will* make it work. I will personally add the extra $$ to a PayPal account so you can send your parcels. :) (within reason of course)
I did not give out handles with the names... I was not sure if I should have or not. If anyone needs these to help you shop, let me know and I will send thier handles too.

This is not a problem for some of us.
I made a small mistake, it seems... is it possible to have one more person from North America, who can ship overseas join our group, please? One more person will fix my oversight, without messing up all the emails.
Thanks
Do you do the modelling for your company or the order fulfillment? ;)
All fixed, thanks to all who offered!
Reminder: 1 week left to purchase and send out your gifts :)
Remember to send me an email once they are in the mail.
Yeh lemme say this now - Some gifts will be late, but will arrive!
Shit , Ok , On it !!!
Haha...DITTO! :D
Between work and vacation, I missed the event this year.
Consider yourselves lucky.;)
http://www.kotulas.com/deals/winerack-the-advantages-are-obviousGift ready for posting and I'll get that done on Monday
Gift will be posted this weekend.
Reminder: all Parcels should be in the mail in the next day or so. Then send me a quick note to say it is.
Just think we should all be getting a pressie within the next 2 weeks!!! I am so excited :)
Mine has gone out today !!
Mine is going out in the next couple of days.
UGGGG the parcel that was supposed to go directly to my recipient... came to me instead. So, mailing mine out tomorrow. *grumbles about paying twice the shipping costs, but is happy to know the person is going to LOVE it *
HQ HQ Package on the WAY over
My package was posted on 1 Dec, Priority mail. They PROMISE it should be there within one week.
My package is mailed, estimate for delivery is tomorrow.
Package is in the mail, its priority so should be there sometime next week.
My package is mailed, estimate for delivery is tomorrow.
estimate accurate
Parcel is in the mail... again! LoL
If it was sent direct, like I had asked, the giftee would have had it by now..... oh well, now I added stuff :)
Once you start getting your parcels, please post in the "look what I got" thread.
Mine was sent out on Friday!
We sent our Secret Santa gift out today.
I got my Secret Santa gift today! Thanks Santa!!!
Whoa, is it too late to back out? All this time I thought it was secret Satan. My bad.
Actually, considering my recipient, it won't be far off the mark in either case. Tomorrow is mail day.
hehehe @ secret Satan
So what is the orange container fargon? Is that a handsaw? Very large knife? I can only make out a handle.
I am still on tenterhooks. I would appreciate it if I could borrow some sandpaper to take the edge of them, though.
I am very sorry.
Now that I am finished with it, I have changed my mind, I wish to keep it. Can I just send you a gift card or something instead?
hahahhaha... just kidding. The finishing touches (including wrapping) will happen tonight and I will ship tomorrow. I hope you like it as much as I do. :)
If you are not just trying to be mysterious and are actually my secret santa, that makes it three years running that my address has only been exposed to people that I'm comfortable exposing my address to ...
Hello wolf
First of all, I am flattered by the suggestion that I am someone you would feel comfortable exposing yourself to. Thank you.
Next, I can, but won't, confirm or deny your suggestion that I am your secret santa. The post above was more of a general announcement to the group. A public confession of my tardiness, and my (slow) progress.
Which brings me to that announcement--I am happy to say that the package was shipped today. I will have a tracking number soon. If there isn't a blind confirmation in this thread soon, I will loose the hounds.
Which brings me to this announcement, also tardy. Thank you to my Texan Secret Santa. I received your package last week, but failed to say so here. I am sorry for making you wait so long to confirm delivery. It looks lovely in its brown paper wrapping.
We have a few late senders... so if you do not get your parcel before Christmas, be rest assured its in the mail. I know of one that is going over seas, and was shipped off this week :)
Hey, I sprang for Priority, they swore it would be there in 2-3 days.
i was assured it would make the south by tuesday
Thanks, Jaydaan. I'm one of the late senders, mailed today. :o

So what is the orange container fargon? Is that a handsaw? Very large knife? I can only make out a handle.
It's a kite.
A kite! ahh I can see it now.
You'll have to wait for those spring winds. ;)
