Oct 9, 2010: Plumpkin

Plumpkin? That's a Lane Bryant plus sized pumpkin, and in this case an apparent world record pumpkin.

Looking just like a Fiat 500 and weighing even more, this enormous pumpkin has already smashed two records this weekend makes its bid for the world title. For the last six weeks the champion pumpkin has been putting on a colossal two stone in weight each day - the same weight as two-year-old Freya Kirkpatrick who is proudly showing off the gigantic squash.

With a 17ft waist and weighing an estimated 1,652 lbs, this gigantic orange gourd has already smashed the British and European records. But after Saturday's official weigh-off, the Atlantic Giant may become the heaviest pumpkin of all time.
Twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton, 49, have been growing giant pumpkins at Pine Tops Nursery in Lymington, Hampshire, for 30 years. Ian said: 'We want the world record and we're going to get it. This may be our lucky year as one of our six pumpkins looks like it's going to tip the scales at 1,652lbs.

'The chart we use to approximate the weight of a pumpkin is based on a combination of three measurements. But we expect a difference of five per cent each way when it is weighed for real. 'The current world record weight is 1,725lbs, so if this difference falls in our favour we'll have a new world record.

And then what, have it bronzed? I guess they'll save the seeds for growing but what about the rest?
:idea:Tomorrow I'll call my Mom and get a list of those starving children in Asia or Africa or somewhere, she talked about.

Have it bronzed? Feed starving children? Hell no. load it on a gigantic trebuchet, and then charge skeet shooters £10 apiece to shoot RPGs at it after it's launched.

I want to hollow it out and live in it.

That girl is like, "Ah crap! This thing is out'a control. It'll never fit in my wheelbarrow."

This past weekend, down the road from me, was the Dmariscotta Pumpkin Fest. They had pumpkin chunking, loads of pumpkin carving, and a pumpkin regatta. People grew pumpkins large enough to hollow out, put an outboard motor on, and power around the bay.

Is that really what a Fiat 500 looks like? Hmm...

There's a picture of the Fiat 500 at the link.

Reminds me of Mr. Creosote.

Looks like the Paton twins are in trouble.
Chris Stevens, 32, of New Richmond, Wis., perfected the formula this summer and grew an orange gourd that weighed 1,810 and a half pounds and today shattered the previous world record of 1,725 pounds.

Fat farm for pumpkins.

Peter Peter's root cellar. ;)
Nice picture Casi, is that an Aussie farmer's market?
Shawnee123 • Oct 25, 2010 9:04 am
I think those pumpkins have tumahs.

That one's actually at the market in Antofagasta, Chile. I went there on my last weekend in the town and kicked myself for not having gone earlier-the produce was pretty amazing even though it's all trucked up from the south.

My dad likes pumpkins, so I took this picture with him in mind.

The original shot was way too big, so I've got some help making it more Cellar friendly before posting it.

I doubt those Chileans are buying all those pumpkins for jack-o-lanterns. I'd bet they're going to eat them as a veggie, or make flour.

Thanks for reducing the picture. Pictures that don't fit the screen are a pain in the ass... they screw up the screen for the whole page.

Those pumpkins are visually unappealing, so they must taste good. Otherwise, what's the point?

Coaches for the Ball, Peter Peter's wife's living arrangement (and many just like him, who just can't "keep her") and for Linus to wait for on Halloween.

Perhaps you need a bigger monitor?
