Frig shut down question

Today, after I get home from the grocery store with a load of groceries (of course!), there's a notice from my apt mgmt: they are shutting the electricity off tomorrow from 9 am to 1 pm for maintenance work.

Most of my stuff should be okay, but I have some beef stew meat, and some milk I'm worried about. Will they be okay, or should I take them to work with me and stick them in the frig there?

ETA: or "fridge" if you prefer, lol!

As long as the fridge door stays closed, I think it should be fine. But if you're really worried about it, you could also move the meat and the milk to the freezer tonight, so they have time to get extra-cold.

if you have a Big cooler , Grab a few bags of ice and Pack yer cold stuff in there

good idea--maybe I'll put that stuff in the freezer in the morning. Don't really want frozen milk.

I thought this thread was about when you get interrupted in the middle of a nookie.

On the subject of the thread, fridges and freezers work by removing heat not adding cold, so as long as you don't open the door you'll be fine - provided your fridge seals properly.

My apartment building loses power if a goose in Canada farts, so yeah, just keep the fridge closed and you should be fine.

Milk freezes and thaws just fine.
We used to freeze a couple of pints before going off to festivals, so they'd last longer in the coolbox. Yes, English teenagers drink tea at music festivals :o

At least until we crack open the first can of the day, anyway.

We freeze milk when we go away too.

hmm. defrosted milk would gross me out. I can barely tolerate eating anything frozen by me.

You'd never be able to tell if you didn't know. You trust stores/factories more than yourself to freeze and defrost stuff?

A four-hour power shutdown won't mean anything to your fridge as long as that door stays shut the whole time. A full fridge is even more tolerant -- solid cold things have to take in more heat to warm up than a fridge-full of air.

Once the power's back on, the fridge will likely immediately wake up and do some chilling, but that's all.
