Sept 14, 2010: Book Hoarders

xoxoxoBruce • Sep 14, 2010 12:55 am
There's a book hoarding couple, in St. Louis Park, MN.
After lining all the walls with bookshelves, they were still tripping over cardboard boxes.
So of course the logical solution was to buy the house next door. for the books... of course.

Well nobody wants to trundle outside in their snuggie & slippers to grab a book, especially in MN winters.
So logic rears it's expensive head once more, and they connect the two houses, as well as remodel the new place next door.
OK, formerly next door.

I believe the first picture is the front of the two houses, and the second is the rear.
Oh, the guy said St Louis Park didn't have a rule against it, because nobody had ever wanted to do it before. :haha:

Pictures of the interior at the link.

It's good to be king.

Even in MN.

WANT!! Badly!

I'd LOVE to do that! I'm going to suggest it to my husband.

Granted, we live in a townhouse, so all's we really have to do is cut a door in the wall.

I need space for my books. Me want.

pretty functional "hoarders" if they can afford to buy and build that.

Someone did that just round the corner from me here. I'll try and take a pic sometime. Not sure what they're hoarding, though, although I have my suspicions....

But what they won't ever consider is buying a Kindle.

"This," says Sue, "is a strictly text-bound household."

Gosh. Better get rid of the contents of the filing cabinet then and the house looks fairly flammable too....replace, quickly and there's trees out the front with spindly branches....

Most of the house would catch before books in wall bookcases. Plus not having boxes to trip over makes it safer.

Think of the silverfish, man! They'll be huge! HUGE I tell ya!!
SPUCK • Sep 15, 2010 6:26 am
They'll be crushed in an earthquake! Think of it - being killed by Webster the Unabridged version.
Clodfobble • Sep 15, 2010 8:16 am
It's good to see they still have some room to expand.

Well they won't be killed by the Oxford English 3rd Edition - the current plan is that it will be available only digitally.
Lamplighter • Sep 15, 2010 12:35 pm
But even the digital versions don't have an entry for the word "gullible" because it's not in the printed versions.

From the looks of it they have a well managed collection

You can never have too many books.
xoxoxoBruce • Sep 17, 2010 10:52 am
If you run out of room, books are a good building material to make more room... for more books. :D

Notice the titles... we read those in school back in the 50's
I wonder if any students are reading them now.
spudcon • Sep 17, 2010 9:25 pm
I'm sure they're still reading Silent Spring, along with Al Gore's book.
casimendocina • Sep 17, 2010 10:48 pm
This is like an eye test. The only titles I can see clearly are Catch 22, Proverbs, Children's Stories. Looking again, I can see Fahrenheit 451. Silent Spring wasn't published til the 60's if I remember my dates correctly.
Lamplighter • Sep 17, 2010 11:25 pm
It's a parking garage across the street from a library in the US, but I won't spoil the mysteries of titles or city

Lil' Pete read Fahrenheit 451 in English class last year. I can't make out any more titles than casi, but they're reading Melville right now... not a public school though.

Got new glasses, lost them after a week so will have to go without for another year-no idea what happened to the previous pair. Ce la vie and you're right. On closer inspection, it is O Pioneers. What was I thinking?????
