Sept 8, 2010: Cool DIY Envelopes

boingboing points to this site, where you can enter an address, and print out cool envelopes with the Google picture of the location on the inside.

Image

If you want the recipient to actually use it to find you, I'd keep the location away from the top fold, where they might use a letter opener.

You might print one out for a pattern, to make envelopes from other cool material later.;)

I am so impressed! I put in our address, in the middle of nowhere in the Australian bush, and it found us! Even the average GPS doesn't find us. I would have attached the image, but then you'd all know where to find us. Not that we're paranoid, no no no.

Tried to do one for the nuthouse, didn't work because the program decided I wanted a Street with the same name as the Drive that the nuthouse is on ... the street is a couple miles away. Strange because if you use google maps or google earth on the nuthouse address, it goes right to it.

Cool, now if you were marooned on a deserted island and had that, and printed one, and put it in a bottle... never mind.

That's cool, but I don't get this bit:

print out cool envelopes with the Google picture of the location on the inside.

If you've printed the picture of the address you're sending to, you should put the map on the outside, to help the postie. Even more creepy.

Or hey, choose an address at random, print the envelope with their location picture inside it and send it to them marked with "I know where you live" on the outside and their house circled with "here!" on the inside. Just to freak them out. :D

Google maps never gets our house right. It always points to some house down the street.

Creepy. I put in the name of my town, and it pointed to my house. Then I typed in a friend's street name, different town, and it pointed to her house. Has web neutral passed? Do I put on my tinfoil hat?

Your houses must be about in the center of the zip code.
